I saw both of these clips . . . . . .
watch him carefully . . . not at all sincere, would not even look at either person in the eye who made those statements.  Besides, he only did what he was told to do by his advisors, because everybody knew he was digging his own grave by all the hate-spewing rhetoric they've been dishing out this whole time!! Just the fact that some illiterate woman honestly thinks that Obama is an Arab shows the the kind of ill-informed, gullible nitwits that the McCain camp is trying to target.
I saw clips of that on The O'Reilly Factor.
I was cracking up.  "Your name is Joy.  You're supposed to be joyful."  LOL!  If she wants to be on a TV show like that, she really does need to lighten up and at least add to the conversation instead of just acting like she has a severe case of PMS.
I've watched clips of
Barrack Obama at the Chicago Obamafest.  As per usual, Obama gave no definite answers to some lingering questions but each time he made a statment about doing something the crowd would chant "yes we can."  I didn't think much about it at the time until they kept doing it and it suddenly hit me......it was like Bob the Builder.  Can we fix it.....YES WE CAN!  LOL!
boy are you about a week behind
yessss...the owners changed, much drama. Can't give you any specific info or it will be deleted. sorry.
u only eat once a week?!
I don't want to be rude, but how do u deal the headaches that come with that. I can one meal a day, but once a week, I think unless it the haulocaust or something......I would not be able to concentrate on my work and would rip somebody's head off. I don't know you're circumstances and certainly I pray if its that bad for you, its better. I am sorry if this is rude.
you eat once a week?~
doesn't make sense
Since when? Last week?
su
About an hour a week.

I saw it on MSNBC this week.
I had seen this commercial before, I believe on the Daily Show (Colbert Report maybe?), and I thought it was one of their jokes.  I was amazed to find out it's real!
well, now. Just last week, a first time
child molester (first time caught, anyway) was given probated sentence; I am a lot more irate over that. The doctors will gladly help you get addicted, especially 20 years ago when they thought they could safely use cocaine themselves safely, and then when you are addicted, they drop you like a hot potato. My son was severely injured in a train wreck and after surgeries, he walked and walked and they offered him drugs and he told them, "you're not making an addict out of me; I know how this works". The doctor told him, "good for you". As for the rest of you, I am so glad that I have to ask for forgiveness, I only have to ask God and none of you.
I went to a party last week

to watch the acceptance speech by Obama.  There was one individual at the party who kept talking endlessly and kept trying to re-take the floor after someone spoke about their  interests.  it was incredibly annoying.  Ever had that happen in your life? conversation hog?

Yea, they were talking about him this week.....
He's only about 35 but, of course, that doesn't necessarily mean he can't do the job. It might be a breath of fresh air to have someone younger up there who hasn't been around so long as to become jaded and corrupt like so many.....time will tell.
Seen last week, Wow, wow, shameful NM
x
Voted last week, but..
wore an old pair of jeans and a white sweat shirt.
Is anyone else celebrating this week?
I wasn't sure where to put this post.  I was talking about the situation of American workers on another board and I couldn't help feeling overjoyed about the change in leadership that is happening.  This could go on the faith board since I have experienced a great renewal in faith after the election.  I honestly didn't think it could happen, but it appears the people are finally awakening from the deep complacency that has allowed the corporations and the dollar to rule.  I came to the politics board to find rampant homophobia.  It seems my post might be out of place amidst all this fear and negativity.  I'm not sure any joy would be tolerated well here; however, I am overjoyed.  Is it no wonder the whole world is rejoicing?  Hallelujah!
$10 a week-what a joke!
You mean our wonderful $10 a week extra that we are going to get in our paychecks that is going to change our spending habits and boost the economy?  Does Obama really believe giving the american public $10 extra going to stimulate this economy?  Really, how smart a man can he be if he thinks this is really going to help?
Ken dra, your taxes went up in just 1 week??
Honest to goodness, in a democratic controlled state. When did the democrats come back in. You make absolutely no sense with the reasoning. Your dear repubs just sent you and your home down the drain, if anything. Why, why do you continue to bash the democrats when they have been out of office for 8 YEARS!!! It seems to me like you really just bit off more than you can chew and now you are having to pay for it. I had 3 homes, 2 rentals and my own personal, paid taxes on all 3 and honey, I had no money problems with them. Next time do your math and maybe you wont get caught in a situation you have made for yourself to start with.
I didn't say that they went up in a week.
Every year before the following year, they send out the assessment and what the new year's taxes will be. I did not bite off more than I could chew. We are doing fine and have never made a late payment. Try not to assume things about me! Washington is democratic-controlled state. Chris Gregoire, the governor, is a Democrat and most of the rest of the officials are. Seattle is a far left city. Before you start telling me that I bit off more than I could chew and judging what I said, perhaps you should try to read it a little better. I did not say anything about Washington D.C. or federal government, I simply countered the OP that said her taxes and property values went up in a red state with the fact that my property taxes went up while my home value went down in a blue state. I am irritated that people who are behind on their house payments can refinance at a lower rate because they are about to lose their houses, while I have to just pay on time because I did the right thing. Finally, I really don't care how many houses you have. Good for you! I am glad you are doing so well and I am sure you are twice as old as I am.
This Week with George S. had

Sen. DeMint, Barney Fife, Fred Smith CEO of FedEX (?), and ? (didn't catch his name and am terrible with names anyway) about the stimulus package. Sen. DeMint is against the stimulus because it doesn't do much to help the American people. Fred Smith took a 20% cut in pay to help the company.

So far, Barney has been monopolizing the conversation and arguing with the others. I heard him say that the problem was not regulating the financial institutions....Wait. Wasn't he one that voted AGAINST regulation back when they wanted to put tighter controls on them?  He also keeps talking about New Bedford. Isn't that his district? I know he's been fighting for the bank in his district. He seems to have a one track mind. What a jerk!!!....and that's why I call him Barney Fife. He has less sense than the real Barney Fife.

question about $13 a week
been away from the news for a few days, I obviously missed something here.  What is this about $13 a week?
I have been praying about this all week-
end. I knew we were not going to let them take that good Captain ashore! I was horrified earlier today when I heard that it was the WH holding up a decision to do anything (should have known Obama thought he could *talk* to those pirates! or whatever his inexperience was costing us again).

I really don't care about the court of world opinion, and I am sure you are right. I am just thankful that the Captain was strong enough and brave enough to escape again and our Navy Seals and other military were able to rescue him without injury. I just hate that it took as long as it did to get him back safe.

And, yes, I am very curious to see how Obama and his elite followers are going to take credit for this one. Especially after apologizing for our arrogance all last week.
I watched GMA last week and they

had 3 American born Mexicans on whose parents were deported because they were illegal. The eldest girl is now supporting her brother and sister (how?). They want the law changed that if the children are born in America, even if the parents are illegal, they get instant citizenship.

They were so sad because they only see their parents once a month. Well, you are right. My first question was why the children didn't go to Mexico with their parents? You don't have to answer that. I know that answer.

I try to look at both sides of the coin, but there's no way I can feel sorry for illegals putting their children in this position.

Yeah. It's the same one. Next week she'll

Who's been having *nice debates* here this week?

When you people bring your rudeness to this board, it's never nice.

I'd like to hear from one liberal poster here on the LIBERAL BOARD who thinks you are nice.

Another voice in Utah last week.

This is quite long but if you just read the the last lines, the no mores, it will move you. While our **leaders** were out there borrowing rhetoric from WWII and not from the good guys either, the mayor of Salt Lake City had some words of his own to share.

I have not been on the boards much lately because I just don't know what to say. There is so much that is so wrong that I am completely overwhelmed, so much death, so much torture, so much pain, so much greed, so much **depraved indifference***, so much deceit and on and on and on.   I am grateful there are still those who can put words together and produce a piece of coherent outrage. The mayor of Salt Lake is one of them.

No thanks. This is the week we all focus on the pubs.

Don't go there - I made that observation last week
and got shredded apart for it.  I thought it was freaky, but all the super-dems took major offense to it.  It was just an observation on my part.
I did. A week vs 18 months? Laughable.
nm
who no sexist outrage last week

when female commentator on Fox morning show made comment about Sara being nominated because she has  "t**s" (female mammary glands).  I saw the clip -- have heard no anguished cries from the conservatives about sexist on this one.

Last week McCain was up. Polls go up and down....
we won't know until election night. But in the mean time, toast your polls. :)
McCain on This Week. Interesting

If you can, watch it. I don't want to quote him as I may get the quotes wrong.

$13 will pay for gas for 1 car for 1 week for me (working at home). nm

Police Memorial Week
Still another example of a President to be ashamed of. He is the First President to show such disrespect!

Hello everyone,

May 10-16 was Police Memorial Week.   It is a week to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving as a law enforcement officer in the United States
.  The week is filled with various events to honor fallen police officers and their families. To provide you with Just a little background,  May 15 was established by President John Kennedy as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" and the calendar week of May 15 is known as "Police Week" according to presidential proclamation 537.

     http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=24099

The point of this email is to inform you of something I believe everyone should be aware of. President Barrack Obama did not attend this event. This may seem insignificant, but every year for at the past 21 years the president, regardless of political affiliation, has given a speech on May 15 on the steps of the
U.S. capitol to the family members of fallen hero's.

I am sure the president has more pressing issues to focus on than attending a ceremony for the widows, parents, and children of fallen police officers. It is understandable he may have needed to miss the ceremony for a more urgent matter and I say that with all seriousness. But, at the time of the ceremony where do you think Barrack Obama was? He was giving a tour of the White House to the 2008 world series champion Philadelphia Phillie's. I know the Phillie's are important and all, but the man could not take 30 minutes out of his day to take a short car ride 10 minutes down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Capitol, give a 10 minute speech and then drive back to the Whitehouse?

This is not a political issue and has nothing to do with being a democrat, republican, green party, independent, or whatever other political affiliation you may have chosen. This is about honoring fallen officers and paying your respects. It is obvious we know where Barrack Obama stands when it comes to supporting your local, state, and federal law enforcement officers.

I feel everyone should know what occurred on
May 15, 2009. You will probably not hear this in the mainstream media so I would encourage you to share this with anyone and everyone you want.

We've been having nice debates over there this week
and I know gt enough to know she couldn't be hounded of a maximum security prison shower. I personally don't command anyone to leave unless they are childish enough to start calling people losers or other names like that.
Operation Truth: Vets of the Week

Here's one of them, Daniel Goetz.  There are others there, as well.  I'm sure most of you know this site exists.  I've added it to my Favorites.  I'd also recommend reading Daniel Goetz' blog, as well.

goetz_thumb.jpg Seven months ago, my service in the army was to have terminated. Instead, I am in Iraq for the second time. I sit next to a DOD contractor whose job is identical to mine. Except he makes $120,000 more, works four hours less, and visits home four times more often than I do.

Daniel Goetz is currently serving in Samarra, Iraq.  Read his blog here.

I am not alone in my anger and humiliation. When we were here in 2003, there was anger, but there is a difference between anger and bitter hatred. The atmosphere of discontent is thick and contagious. Even soldiers not stop-lossed feel The Betrayal. They know it might be them next time. Dissent will not change anything for us now because our voices are muted. Still, there is hope. It is that in twenty years, it will be these men and women in office. Perhaps, that alone should make me feel better. I don't think it is enough, though, for our wounded and fallen. I can't speak for them, of course. Not yet, at least.

I joined the army soon after I finished college; the decision was an amalgamation of desire to serve, to belong, and to repay student loans. I wanted the challenge to see if I really could be all I could be. Our country was a vastly different place then; one in which policemen, firemen, and servicemembers were no different than any other American. I had almost completed my two years of training to become an Arabic linguist when September Eleventh dramatically changed the nation's climate. I knew my own role would be pivotal, and was eager to see our country avenged on the battlefield.

Until then, I had a rather dim view of the army. Their promise to repay my college loans turned out to be false, and I was left to shoulder the massive burden of debt alone. My dismay melted away in the patriotic euphoria that enveloped the country in the run-up to our invasion of Iraq. Like the rest of the America, I clung fervently to the justifications for it. The underlying righteousness was my source of motivation when we crossed the Kuwait-Iraq border in March of 2003.

kuwait2003.jpg
In the months that were to follow, those justifications collapsed - and with them, my confidence in a nation. In those days, my colleagues and I would often patrol the streets of Baghdad with the infantry in a bid to quell boredom. We were also looking for hope among the Iraqi people; we could live vicariously through their optimism, and perhaps therein find meaning for our occupation. But hope betrayed us as the insurgency swelled. It was when the fighting began again in earnest that we left Iraq. By the end of August, I was back in The United States, free to pretend Iraq never happened.

But it had. And nothing could wrench the darkest memories from repression like the knowledge that we were to return. Worse, our year in America was wasted. Almost every week, CSPAN would feature one committee or another complaining that our armed forces hadn't enough servicemembers in critical jobs like intelligence and military police. I wanted them to know how poorly we were thought of in our own units, and how little job-specific training we received before we left. At one point, we were told to study Arabic only on our own time. That was hardly possible when we were kept late every night, sometimes doing only menial tasks like weapons-cleaning until three in the morning.

tikrit2005.jpg

The last straw was stop loss. My enlistment contract ended in March of this year. It is seven months hence, and I am still in Iraq. I propose that, in order for me to respect my commitment, the army ought to respect the contract we agreed upon. It was for five years, not six. Proponents of this form of conscription argue that I signed it nonetheless, fully aware of possible outcomes. True, I ought to have prepared myself better. But to remain bound to an expired commitment - exposed to prolonged peril in support of an unjustifiable cause - was beyond my expectations.

Today, I find the greatest challenge of the army is to find honor in service. I don't ever regret having joined because I've learned so much about myself and about America. I have faith in both, but yearn for hope to become reality. I want to go home as badly as I want to be proud of my country again.

I guess we'll all find out next week, huh?

gee, ask the people on the MetroLink train out in LA the other week...sm
how much fun that is. What you are suggesting is just plain pathetic and stupid and wrong.

You really have no idea what you're wishing for, do you?

I refuse to waste my breath trying to educate people that think like you two anymore, because it's obviously a lost cause.
What a difference a week of rehearsal makes!

You act like one of those Sunday only Christians...rest of the week
too many hypocrites like yourself there.
Give the guy a break - in office less than 1 week!
It took Bush longer than that to screw everything up. How long do you think it's going to take President Obama to straighten out this mess?

They do in my state - 1 40-hour week.........earthling..........nm

@

I love, too, that Joe Biden is going to meet with him next week.
Joe - white person with blue eyes. Can't wait to hear what this guy has to say to Joe!
Caught him on Larry King one night last week.
He's a very funny and intelligent man....
This week. Check archives back thru July
Libs learned these tactics lessons from the republican camp.
Yeah, well, I've worked 80+ hours this week....sm
like I do every week. I've been busy watching the spell Obama has over you......so gullible. And I'll be watching to see how long it takes for you to become disillusioned.
Moved hubby's 6 weeks ago. Mine only last week. (nm)

I watch Chris Matthews six days a week

(including his Sunday morning show), and I never heard him say that.  I heard him say that Africa is a continent with 50-some countries.

Please provide a link to Matthews saying Africa is a country.

Sorry, I beg to differ - a 6 week blob of tissue is not a CHILD yet. nm

I'm celebrating - American Idol is back on this week
At least someone told me that, so I'm celebrating.

Also celebrating that John Adams won at the Golden Globes.

Also celebrating that we don't live in an area that has horrible weather patterns.

That's what I'm celebreating. Otherwise, there is nothing else to celebrate.
