The running mate will be an important factor

Posted By: We're doomed I say.... on 2008-08-19

I think McCain really needs a good running mate. I really liked Tancreda when he was running. A lot of my viewpoints aligned with his. I also like Ron Paul or Colin Powell (not sure if Powell is Dem or Rep), so if he picks a decent running mate who is "on the ball" about foreign and domestic issues (I think McCain is going to need all the help he can get) he may stand a good chance of winning, otherwise it's going to be hard to know who they will choose to be president.

Yes....she is his running mate.
His VP.....she is NOT running for president.  Barrack Obama is.  And even saying that.....at least she has run a state and had to make executive decisions.  She has been successful in her job as governor and has a high approval rating.  What does Obama have other than the unique ability to flip flop on everything he has ever said and voted for.
I would prefer her as HIS running mate, but...
I would be fairly happy with either!  I have mixed feelings about Hillary, but like I've said, I'm sure she would do a fine job.  I just happen to reeeeally prefer Obama.
It's funnier that his own running mate
xx
What is she chose Obama as running mate?
Do you think that would be beatable? Not sure either one would go for it, but sure would make an interesting race!
Pick McCain's VP running mate!

MSNBC has a "Veepstakes" where you get to make picks on who McCain will pick for VP, and that's kind of fun.  I have no idea who he will pick, but here are some names that are bounced around:

Bobby Jindal (I think too young at 36, but religious right seems to like him, which is more than I can say for McCain, so maybe that would help him there).

Charlie Crist (McCain totally owes him for helping him boost to front runner affter Florida, but he's kind of liberal for base's tastes).

Mitt Romney (the favorite in the "Veepstakes."  Would help McCain in some places like Michigan, could hurt in deep south).

Mike Huckabee (may help in the south, but I can't see any other benefit).

Barack's running mate - Biden

I am totally relieved to know he finally announced his VP choice.  Just got sick of the Hillary-lovers pushing for her.  So am relieved she's out of the picture.  Also relieved it's Biden.  I actually wanted Biden to win the presidential nomination when he was running.

I am very relieved mostly because Biden will bring the experience and knowlege that Barack needs.  Barack looks up to him and will definitely listen to him and follow is guidance.  I think it's an excellent choice and believe the democrats have a better than average chance to win.

As for the McCain camp - understand they are pretty upset about the choice.  I knew they were pushing for Barack to choose Hillary.  Has to make you wonder, why would the republicans be so rigid in their constantly pushing to have Barack choose Hillary - I can tell you why and its so obvious...they want to win.  Plain and simple.  If Barack chose Hillary it would be a definite 100% chance of loss (okay maybe 95% chance).  Also, do you really think the republicans are going to try to push for Barack to choose someone who is a good candidate?  So now will be interesting to see who the republicans choose for their VP.

Who is Palin's pick for running mate again?

Be careful what you wish for -

there are so many scenarios how this could play out.  I think republicans (the men) need to watch their backs with this person.  they are infatuated right now but this person after all is a self-described pitbull (with lipstick).

I heard someone call this play by the republicans a 'hail mary' like in football, but no matter which party you side with, it was very worrisome watching that little baby be passed around like a football throughout the convention last night...it almost made me sick.

Why I think Palin was picked as VP running mate - sm
I have this feeling that somewhere near the end of this campaign, McCain had second thoughts. I think he changed his mind about wanting to try to lead this mess of a country for the next 4 years. He's no spring chicken. I think Palin was plucked from practically out of nowhere to become his running mate because she was such a joke, so inept and incpable of handling the job of being a US vice-pres., that he knew he would lose, but didn't have to stop running and be viewed as a quitter.

Any thoughts on that?
One reason is because Sarah Palin's his running mate
x
Biden was chosen Obama's running mate

for the following reasons:

A.  He's had his face in the public trough for half a century and so has lots of connections and many favors he can call in for his boss.

B.  He has zero charisma and so cannot challenge Obama for the worship of the masses.

C.  He is a complete dips**t, and so poses no intellectual threat to his boss either.

The guy is the perfect ''second banana''.  And I love that during the primary campaign Biden kept insisting that Obama had insufficient experience to be president.  Now Biden, with a straight face, has to work for the man.  That must really chafe, but at least he caught the bouquet!

So if the intent is solely to mate and
did god create infertility and is it against god to undergo fertility treatments?
And you determine whose credible....Good day, mate.
Go read the "you're probably a liberal if..." on the conservative board. Maybe that'll be adult enough for ya.

actually, it is not a factor

in my voting choice.  Progressives can understand human fraility.  As we all know, in this sexy-sexy business of medical transcription, one can face some rompin' stompin, fierce temptations.  John Edwards went way past the mark with the baby and the coverup and all.  Look at the man who replaced Elliott Spitzer.  He 'fessed up right away and no one ever speaks of it anymore.

Credibility Factor

Wow, if my in-laws (in their 80s) knew that they were looked upon like that, I'd get a black eye (and deserve it) Incidentally, they could do it, too. They travel abroad, work out, all that stuff.

Maybe we should get a little sampling of how many fossilized 70YOs there are out there. I'm embarrassed for you.

It also seems to me that anyone who could endure the worst imaginable torture for 5 years must be made of something.

Is that the best ya got?

Because the rumor factor has taken this to mean
nm
Here is where that comes from......fear factor
Brad Sherman is right....sorry bunch of cowardly people we put in there who brown-nose out of nothing more than fear that they feed on with each other. Nothing written in cement.....just the fear factor!

http://revolutionarypolitics.com/
actually he says that would not be a qualifying factor -
I've never imposed a litmus test on Supreme Court nominees
Q: Could you ever nominate someone to the Supreme Court who disagrees with you on Roe v. Wade?
McCAIN: I would never, and have never in all the years I've been there, imposed a litmus test on any nominee to the Court. That's not appropriate to do.

Q: But you don't want Roe v. Wade to be overturned?

McCAIN: I thought it was a bad decision. I think that decision should rest in the hands of the states. I'm a federalist. And I believe strongly that we should have nominees to the Supreme Court based on their qualifications rather than any litmus test. They should be judged on their qualifications. I will find the best people in America who have a history of strict adherence to the Constitution. And not legislating from the bench.

Q: Even if it was someone who had a history of being for abortion rights?

McCAIN: I would consider anyone on their qualifications. Someone who has supported Roe v. Wade, that would be part of those qualifications. But I certainly would not impose any litmus test.

Trust factor

You know, Sam, I don't know if Obama is trustworthy or not.  I don't know him and I don't know John McCain.  I think we would all do well to keep an eye on the direction of our country.  I really, really thought McCain would end up in the White House but with the landslide electorate vote I don't see any way that could possibly happen now.  Maybe it would be a good idea to get to work on doing away with the electorate.  The popular vote should be enough.  It appears to me that elections are decided really just by a few states.

Sooooooo I'm not really sure that we have time to worry about whether we trust the new president or not.  I don't trust any politicians but the cards have been dealt and there's plenty we all need to do.

Yep, the "if its true" factor.

Our next President WILL be a huge factor
xx
I saw clips of that on The O'Reilly Factor.
I was cracking up.  "Your name is Joy.  You're supposed to be joyful."  LOL!  If she wants to be on a TV show like that, she really does need to lighten up and at least add to the conversation instead of just acting like she has a severe case of PMS.
Does the calculator also factor in lies!

xx

The health care costs are the factor that
takes UAW hourly wages from $28 to $73, along with their other benefits, pension, matching funds and the like. The national insurance coverage was what I was referring when talking how the new administration may or may not impact this situation. The nonunion figures I gave are for the US Toyota workers. I don't think they can take advantage of the national insurance coverage the global Toyota workers have, but I could be mistaken. The more we talk about this, the more interesting it becomes. I wish I knew where to go to get reliable information on this.
Oh I sorry, yeah, sure the people are the deciding factor
Yeah, right people really are the ones who decide who the president will be. Yeah, right, okay.
Obama could produce FEAR FACTOR!

It's funny how Obama can ramble on and on and on about all the Americans out of jobs; however, he refuses to enforce the E-Verify bill already in place to make sure NO illegals continue to take their jobs, which they are.   He couldn't give a rats butt about those jobs.  The proof is in his lack of doing anything about the illegal invasion in this country.  He's very good at using all his fear tactics with all his big adjectives and descriptives out the ying yang, but he hasn't done ONE SINGLE THING to stop American employers from giving illegals American citizens' jobs.

He's just wanting that stimulus package passed so bad, he'll continue to get on TV and promote more fear....................

And for those posters who said he has taken ALL THE PORK OUT DAYS AGO, get in the real world, will ya?  He JUST said on his little announcement that there is PORK that needs to be taken out STILL.     All I hear now is blah, blah, blah, blah.................

He can sign 5 executive orders in his first 3 days of office but he can't enforce E-Verify!  That big fat smile doesn't make me melt and it doesn't fool me either.  He ain't got what it takes.

Now all you O lovers can flame away........... then tell me why he can't enforce E-Verify!  It's a law ya know!!! You'll probably have to look it up first.

If the profit factor (insurance companies)...
...is removed, we will save a TON of money.
Heard the same blather from the Oreilly rumor factor
the NY Times, Rasmussen, Gallup, etc., all in response to his dive in the ratings, taking third place behind KO and RM on MSNBC and AC on CNN. "They MUST be rigged," he blustered in protest. You don't like polls? Fine. Check out the electoral map.

The 'it' factor: Let's give Obama a change, at least...
the last 8 years were not good years.
Isn't charisma and attractiveness in all fields of life a major component for success? Besides all other qualifications?
I agree, corrected myself in a post below. I shouldn't have added that part as a factor nm
x
more important to you?
Excuse me, more important to you than me?  No, it is more important to ME.  You are an onlooker, it is my blood.
He has just never been that important to me.. nm
nm
So are dad's not as important?

Is this what you are suggesting because I do believe some of SP's children are older than Obama's and yet no one seems to be spatting about him leaving his children to run for president.  Of SP's 5 children....only 2 are younger....which is the same number of young children Obama has.  Yet it seems to be okay with everything that he just let Michelle Obama raise their children while he runs around the country to be prez.  Why is it not acceptable that Todd Palin take care of the two younger children while his wife tries to make this country better....including for her children.  Why....because Todd is the dad and he should be out working while SP stay at home cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids.........seriously....who time warped us back to the 50s?

Oh I see....what was more important than ....
the Katrina victims at that point? Looks like I need to go to the senate site and see what Biden and Obama felt was so important they had to vote for the bridge.

People WERE suffering from Katrina and they had a chance to vote for it. They chose not to. Where does integrity come in? Where is country first, party second? What was so all-fired important they voted FOR a huge earmark for a bridge and against help for Katrina victims?

As as for pork...it is added by BOTH parties and that is what McCain/Palin seek to stop. Plus earmarks for personal gain...like Obama earmarking a million bucks for his wive's employer...who had just that month DOUBLED her salary.

Face it...Obama is old Washington politics, just like Biden is. There is no change there. Same old washington politics. He has demonstrated throughout his career. Yes, other politicians do it. That is exactly what I am talking about.

It is time it stopped, and the only people who have ANY history of bucking their own party to do that are McCain/Palin. Now THERE is change you can believe in.
Well, I think it is more important when the man...
running on the ticket with you only a few months ago voiced the opinion that you were not qualified for the job...however...in a strict changing your story view, yes. Weighing the importance of the two issues (lipstick on a pig and your #2 saying you were not qualified for the job) is up to the reader.
How is this not important?
I know that, on the surface, it's really easy to write this off as a nonissue. But I would ask that, regardless of party, everyone stop for a moment and consider what it MEANS.

It means that a make-up artist was more important to the McCain campaign than any other adviser or staff member. It's representative of shallowness and wasteful excess. It shows clear skewed judgment in what's important in our nation.

And, frankly, it was clearly wasteful expenditure. Palin looked perfectly fine before the excessive celebrity life the campaign brought to her. There was no need for this. She's an attractive woman, and absolutely not in need of this Paris Hilton-esque extravagance.

Why the campaign and RNC thought it would make her more "popular" is pretty head-scratching. Instead, they just made themselves look like, well, the type of people who aren't really "for" the middle class after all. The type of people who think style is more important than substance.

Is it?
Why this is important...(sm)

If Bush is not tried for his crimes, it sets a precedence for successive abuse of power....even for Obama.  As a country, until we acknowledge and correct our shortcomings we cannot move forward.  What do you think the rest of the world will say if we don't do something about it?  We talk alot about justice and being fair, but until we can show that we are willing to uphold those ideals we are no better than the ones who would commit those crimes.

The economy is the focus right now, and yes, it should be dealt with first and foremost, and that is being done.  But that is not to say that we cannot accomplish other things at the same time.  If they do go after Bush, all Obama has to do is step aside and not stop the preceedings.  This is all about the judicial branch of government, not the White House.

Seems pretty important to me
Well, if his trustee is saying Frist was updated regularly on his blind trust, I kind of think that is something.  It is a formal investigatinn by the SEC.  I kind of think that is something.
Yeah, you wish you were important enough
for somebody to be spying on you....does your paranoia know no bounds?
BUt that's the most important thing to me....

Unfortunately not all news sources are created equal and unbiased.

As far as things changing over time.....it seems that things have to change as new information is brought to light.  Ask Colin Powell.  We have to adapt and change with this new information.

Can't find your quote from Russert to Cheney anywhere on the internet.

As far as Tenet's slam-dunk comment, the people at that meeting were Bush, Cheney, and CIA-director John McLaughlin.....oh, and you.  Couldn't find any female names mentioned in that meeting, however.

As far as the 747 fuselage in the desert....could only find a handful of references to it on the whole internet and none were compelling and again, most were from far right wing publications.

I feel a story is only as truthful as its source and sometimes the truthfulness of a story can never be completely determined.  You say the source doesn't matter, I say it is EVERYTHING.  Reflect upon North Korea today, former communist Russia and China even today....all highly censored government news sources. Those folks will never get the real story and heaven knows it's hard enough to get it in a free country like the US.

much too important to go unread

brought up from below.

It's long been a safe assumption that U.S. troops generally vote Republican. And with Vietnam war hero John McCain leading the GOP presidential ticket, many pundits expect the military to favor the Republicans with their wallets, too. But so far, Barack Obama appears to be leading his rival by a 6-to-1 margin in campaign contributions from deployed troops. The nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics reports that Obama has collected just over $60,000 from deployed troops compared to McCain's $10,000 in figures up to June 30.

More importantly, why is it so important to YOU
What are you so afraid is going to happen if some of us don't?
Important issue

Dealing with our enemies - I read an article and was going to post the link, but the article is positioned on the page odd and I had to scroll down to the bottom and words went off the screen so I cut and pasted some of it here.  If you still wish to see the article let me know and I'll provide a link..

Obama is described as “eloquent and dazzling. In writing, he sounds like the candidate for class president pledging no more homework and free pizza”.  – (pretty good description I'd say)

His position on Iran – “If Iran continues its troubling behavior, we will step up our economic pressure and political isolation”.  – That, that’ll show them.

While other candidates have insisted that we should threaten to drop nuclear bombs on terrorist training camps, Obama believes that we must talk openly about nuclear weapons – because “the best way to keep America safe is not to threaten terrorists with nuclear weapons”.  Obama will secure all loose nuclear materials in the world within four years.  “This will deny terrorists the ability to steal or buy loose nuclear material”. – Does he really believe the most vicious people will be thwarted that easily?

People should remember that no matter how eloquently offered it is not always for the better.

You actually think it is more important for Obama...
to keep campaigning than to go back to Washington and do his job as a United States Senator which he, by the way, still is and we are paying him for? Pullezzzeeee.
Did I miss something important? AS is a pub gov
He ran under the pub ticket and was elected by Californian pubs and other star-struck Californians. Do you disagree with the idea that repulicans come in different flavors or should I be translating you message from Christian right-wing fringe-speak to mean roughly "my way or the highway" on what it means to be a REAL republican?
The most important issue.....

this election is freedom. On November fourth we will determine which path our government will take, liberty or Marxism. I will choose liberty.

McCain/Palin 2008

I guess I consider it to be more important
to be well read and informed on the important issues rather than worrying about some trivial little geek-speak that you seem so well versed  in.  Congratulations, you win the petty award of the day!!
Believe it or not, the appearance is also very important..
IN ADDITION to his fabulous qualifications.
I recommend you to log off and take a rest.
Thank you! There are so many actual important
issues to be discussing rather than wasting time on their silly fairy tale while the economy crumbles.
Why do you just ignore the important
the gutter? Girl, you need to get a life! Oh, that's right, you said you did already. Transcribing 3500 lines a day, then the rest of a day stirring the pot on an internet forum just isn't my idea of a life.
