It's historical significance in saving Europe from worldwide dominance to Islam is an historical fact. Just because you have your head in the sand regarding radical terrorists doesn't mean I have to ignore them.

Crusades
Interesting how the Crusades can be used, almost like statistics, to defend or decry anything we wish. When I was growing up, going to Catholic school, when someone wanted to demean Catholicism as some sort of cult, they would rely on the same 4 things; Mary, confession, the pope and the Crusades. (The Crusades were a bad thing). It was always the one they saved for last...**Well, what about the crusades, explain that one.** Although we studied apologetics in school so that we could defend our religious beliefs with scripture and historical facts, as well as the writings of the early church fathers, no one gave a fig about anything we had to say. Their minds were made up before we opened our mouths. Catholics were not Christians and the Crusades were bad and we were all going to hell in a handbasket if we did not change our evil ways. Now, evidently the Crusades are seen as a good thing. Too bad the nuns and brothers who taught me are not alive...they would be happy to hear this.
As far as the terrorists coming to our front doors, I really don't believe that. I think, in Iraq at least, that they hate each other more than they hate us. I can't really see them packing up and bringing their civil war to Indiana or New Jersey. I think that they want revenge amongst themselves first and foremost, Sunnis want control back and since they are small in number, they see that as a need, not a want. Shiites want a theological government run by them and payback for the way Sunnis have treated them for 30 years. Kurds want revenge for everything that has happened to them for 100s of years. I think they want that more than they want democracy, or at least first. I remember saying 3 years ago that terrorism was a state of mind and not a place so even if we razed Iraq and started over, terrorism would go on and it has, blossoming nicely. I do not see how we can win a war against terrorism. There are no boundaries to it, no lack of soldiers willing to die for it, too many sects of it. If we do what the hawks want, I believe we will be entering into the second 100 years' war and still it will not be **won** whatever that means. We just can't kill or incarcerate everyone we **suspect** of terrorist activities, or connections to terrorists or whatever. Besides, you pull one out and 2 more appear. I think we can put **peace in the Middle East** be it Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, the Arab emirates et al in the NEVER column. It is just not going to happen, ever.
You don't know much about the Islamic crusades
For your enlightenment, and if taught in schools, you would know that Muslims lauched their OWN crusades OUTSIDE of Arabia two years after Muhammed's death.... this was their "holy war" or "jihad"
Muslims and you no doubt have forgotten that Muslims launched crusades several CENTURIES before the Europeans launched theirs as a defense AGAINST Islamic expansion....
Funny how all those folks you get your info from conveniently forgot to inform you of the truth for the crusades from the Europeans!!
They were protecting themselves, much like the United States should be doing!
Islamic teaching is that of hate of ALL who are not them.... plain and simple.
Get your crusades straight before you show your ignorance!
You don't remember those pesky crusades, do you? NM

I wouldn't compare invading Iraq to the Crusades...nm
