Going from a surplus to a 333 billion dollar deficit, not to shabby, eh?

George Soros is having "a very good recession". Made $2.9 billion.

So, this "man of the people" who funds the loony left and wants all the rest of us to be communists rakes in $billions from the recession.  He's out there picking up stuff at bargain-basement prices just like JP Morgan and his kind did.

    Disgusting.

Bush and Saddam Should Both Stand Trial
Bush and Saddam Should Both Stand Trial, Says Nuremberg Prosecutor

Aaron Glantz, OneWorld USFri Aug 25, 8:57 AM ET

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 25 (OneWorld) - A chief prosecutor of Nazi war crimes at Nuremberg has said George W. Bush should be tried for war crimes along with Saddam Hussein. Benjamin Ferenccz, who secured convictions for 22 Nazi officers for their work in orchestrating the death squads that killed more than 1 million people, told OneWorld both Bush and Saddam should be tried for starting aggressive wars--Saddam for his 1990 attack on Kuwait and Bush for his 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Nuremberg declared that aggressive war is the supreme international crime, the 87-year-old Ferenccz told OneWorld from his home in New York. He said the United Nations charter, which was written after the carnage of World War II, contains a provision that no nation can use armed force without the permission of the UN Security Council.

Ferenccz said that after Nuremberg the international community realized that every war results in violations by both sides, meaning the primary objective should be preventing any war from occurring in the first place.

He said the atrocities of the Iraq war--from the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and the massacre of dozens of civilians by U.S. forces in Haditha to the high number of civilian casualties caused by insurgent car bombs--were highly predictable at the start of the war.

Which wars should be prosecuted? Every war will lead to attacks on civilians, he said. Crimes against humanity, destruction beyond the needs of military necessity, rape of civilians, plunder--that always happens in wartime. So my answer personally, after working for 60 years on this problem and [as someone] who hates to see all these young people get killed no matter what their nationality, is that you've got to stop using warfare as a means of settling your disputes.

Ferenccz believes the most important development toward that end would be the effective implementation of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is located in the Hague, Netherlands.

The court was established in 2002 and has been ratified by more than 100 countries. It is currently being used to adjudicate cases stemming from conflict in Darfur, Sudan and civil wars in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

But on May 6, 2002--less than a year before the invasion of Iraq--the Bush administration withdrew the United States' signature on the treaty and began pressuring other countries to approve bilateral agreements requiring them not to surrender U.S. nationals to the ICC.

Three months later, George W. Bush signed a new law prohibiting any U.S. cooperation with the International Criminal Court. The law went so far as to include a provision authorizing the president to use all means necessary and appropriate, including a military invasion of the Netherlands, to free U.S. personnel detained or imprisoned by the ICC.

That's too bad, according to Ferenccz. If the United States showed more of an interest in building an international justice system, they could have put Saddam Hussein on trial for his 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

The United Nations authorized the first Gulf War and authorized all nations to take whatever steps necessary to keep peace in the area, he said. They could have stretched that a bit by seizing the person for causing the harm. Of course, they didn't do that and ever since then I've been bemoaning the fact that we didn't have an International Criminal Court at that time.

Ferenccz is glad that Saddam Hussein is now on trial.

Saddam Hussein. © Radio Netherlands Wereldomroep This week, the Iraqi government began to try the former dictator for crimes connected to his ethnic cleansing campaign against the Kurds. According to Human Rights Watch, which has done extensive on-the-ground documentation, Saddam's Ba'athist regime deliberately and systematically killed at least 50,000 and possibly as many as 100,000 Kurds over a six-month period in 1988.

Kurdish authorities put the number even higher, saying 182,000 Kurdish civilians were killed in a matter of months.

Everyone agrees innumerable villages were bombed and some were gassed. The surviving residents were rounded up, taken to detention centers, and eventually executed at remote sites, sometimes by being stripped and shot in the back so they would fall naked into trenches.

In his defense, Saddam Hussein has disputed the extent of the killings and maintained they were justified because he was fighting a counter-insurgency operation against Kurdish separatists allied with Iran. When asked to enter a plea, the former president said that would require volumes of books.

Ferenccz said whatever Saddam's reasons, nothing can justify the mass killing of innocents.

The offenses attributable to ex-President Hussein since he came to power range from the supreme international crime of aggression to a wide variety of crimes against humanity, he wrote after Saddam was ousted in 2003. A fair trial will achieve many goals. The victims would find some satisfaction in knowing that their victimizer was called to account and could no longer be immune from punishment for his evil deeds. Wounds can begin to heal. The historical facts can be confirmed beyond doubt. Similar crimes by other dictators might be discouraged or deterred in future. The process of justice through law, on which the safety of humankind depends, would be reinforced.

Bayh Urges GOP to Stand Up to Bush

Yesterday, the Senate passed legislation expanding federal support for stem cell research. In an exclusive to Political Wire, Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) urges Republicans to fight President Bush's expected veto.

Yesterday, I proudly walked onto the Senate floor and cast my vote in favor of expanded stem cell research. My vote for H.R. 810 was a vote for discovery and technology, and for new knowledge and cures. It was a vote that, I believe, could potentially save millions of lives.

Rarely in Washington do we have a vote with such broad bipartisan support. Fortunately, most members of Congress recognize that this bill is more important than partisan politics. Almost every family has been or will be affected by disease in some way -- whether it is juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's, ALS, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis or, in my family's case, cancer.

I was so proud of my mother’s efforts on behalf of people with cancer after she was diagnosed with the disease. I know she would have supported stem cell research. We all look to the day when we will have cures for diseases that shorten the lives of those close to us.

H.R. 810 is now headed for the President’s desk for his signature. He has signed 1,116 consecutive bills into law and never vetoed a single bill. But he says he will veto this one. I hope you will take the time to urge the president to sign this legislation. And I would ask the President to listen to the voice of the American people and the many members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who support this bill because of how much it could mean to the people we love.

America must stand at the forefront of technology and science -- we have the best and brightest doctors and scientists in the world, but they have been handcuffed by politics and, as a result, research has lagged behind that in Europe and Asia. Our research labs must be incubators of hope and promise for a better life. This bill is a crucial step in bringing this promise to those who need it most.

I applaud Majority Leader Frist for casting his vote for what he knows is right and just. I hope that he will now lead his fellow Republicans to urge the President to do what's best for America's families: sign this bill into law.

-- Guest contributor Evan Bayh is the former Governor and current U.S. Senator from Indiana, and is the Honorary Chairman of the All America PAC.
    I applaud you
Or is it I applause you for not voting for her. I've posted numerous posts about what she is really like and what her history has been and what she believes in and is trying to turn the country into, and cannot for the life of me understand why people vote her her. Do they want to live in a socialist country? I've really tried to understand. My MIL loves her and of course Bill. In my MIL's words "oh but he's so cute". (okay hold on a sec while I retch). That was her answer to all the wrong things he was doing - comment on how nice looking she thought he was. Anyway...why people won't see what her game is and what she is trying to do to the country I don't understand. Still can't figure out where she is from. She says she is from Arkansas, Pennsylvania, New York and I think she even said in the race she is from Indiana. So who knows...wish she would just go away. But I'm proud you stood for what was right.
I applaud you for your statements but

I doubt anyone will listen for the reasons you listed. Everything you said is true and I agree wholeheartedly.

When I first came to this board, it was about the issues. There was no name-calling or nastiness, but as the election went on, it got really nasty. Links were posted so we could verify the information and/or come back with a retort. I came back after the election hoping that was all over with and was confronted with messages that were even WORSE than before the election. Like you said, there are no discussions on the issues. There aren't any links to verify anything. It's nothing but rumors and inuendos and O worshipping.

I've said it many times and it always falls on deaf ears. I see some are even on the gab board now about taking off work tomorrow for the inauguration. Lose money just to see "one of the most historical moments in history"? Not me. I've had it up to here with all of it. I've never seen an election where they had so many "historical" items for sale either. It's not the serious ceremony it should be this year. It's more like a circus or parade.

Sure, I wish him luck. He's really going to need it, but I doubt he can pull it off. There's going to be a lot of disappointed people in this country in a year or two.

Nothing good is possible under Bush.
Govt approval ratings are low across the board right now for Bush and most incumbents on both sides of the aisle. This is no more than a reflection on how destructive and demoralizing 8 years under the Bush regime has been for us all and why change is the order of the day.

We have a lame duck Congress under a lame duck president. Dems do not spend a whole lot of time sitting around worrying about approval ratings...theirs, or anybody else's for that matter. We have important work to do and that is what we are doing...focusing on the issues, putting out the message, articulating policy, contrasting our candidate with his opponent, fielding smut politics, lies, rumor, innuendo and the like from the right-wingers, getting the vote out, energizing our base and focusing all our attention on making sure that we have only 4 more months, not 4 more years. Nothing is more important than that. We will be voting the spineless among us out and replacing them with new blood and backbone from our party. We can worry about the approval ratings after that lays behind us.
SAY GOOD BYE TO G.W. BUSH

Regardless of who 'WINS' in November, we ALL win in January when we get to watch that crook leave OUR WhiteHouse...

History will show he was the all time worst, and that Americans, the American media, and the Congress ALLOWED him to trash our Constitution and raid our treasury to pay for fake wars for 8 years. We are all responsible.

I THINK WE NEED A NATIONAL HOLIDAY TO ALL SAY BUH-BYE TO W....

If that was good enough for Bush...... sm
    it's good enough for Obama.

Can't stand it when the microscope is put on your guy, huh?

    A good question for Bush/Cheney
Why hasn't bin Laden been captured/killed?  Why was his family secretly flown out of the country without being detained for questioning?  Someone needs to call Bush/Cheney to account but I doubt it will happen.  Too many crooks on board.
Bush tells Larry King that Ken Lay was a *good guy*

    Video at:  http://thinkprogress.org/2006/07/07/bush-lay/

    Transcript:

KING: The death of Ken Lay.

    G. BUSH: Yes, yes.

KING: I know he was your friend. How do you feel? Were you shocked?

    G. BUSH: I was. I was very surprised. You know, just — my hope is that his heart was right with the Lord, and I feel real sorry for his wife. She’s had a rough go, and she’s now here on earth to bear the burdens of losing her husband, a man she loved.

KING: Was that whole thing, the whole Enron story shocking to you?

    G. BUSH: Yes, yes.

KING: Because, I mean, you knew him pretty well from Texas, right?

    G. BUSH: Pretty well, pretty well. I knew him. I got to know him. This — people don’t believe this, but he actually supported Ann Richards in the ‘94 campaign.

    KING: She told me that.

    G. BUSH: She did?

KING: She liked him a lot.

    G. BUSH: Yes, he’s a good guy. And so what I did — then did was we had a business council, and I kept him on as the chairman of the business council. And, you know, got to know him and got to see him in action.

One of the things I respected him for was he was such a contributor to Houston’s civil society. He was a generous person. I’m disappointed that there was this — he betrayed the trust of shareholders, but…

KING: Did you know him well, Mrs. Bush?

    L. BUSH: I knew him. Not really well, but I did know him.

KING: Did you know his wife?

    L. BUSH: And I know Linda and I’m sorry for her.

    KING: Did you contact her?

    L. BUSH: I haven’t.

    G. BUSH: I haven’t yet. I’m going to write her a letter at some point in time.

Yeah, Bush makes that good Kool-Aid too! LMAO..nm

    All Bush's fault....good grief....talk about denial...
Fannie and freddie? Ring a bell? BarneyRubble on the finance committee who said (on video) why there is nothing to worry about! Fannie is sound...and even if it wasn't, the government wouldn't bail them out....ROFL. DEMOCRAT. Bush Admin and John McCain in particular years ago telling them a crisis was looming but BarneyRubble and his crew not only did nothing, they encouraged Fannie to loan even more to people who had no prayer of paying it back...with credit rating less than 0. So tell me again how it was Bush's fault...do you realize how silly that makes your post sound? Get real???? COME ON. LOL. Obama is trying...trying what? To turn us into a welfare state for sure? Yup. Throwing us down the slippery slope of socialism? Yup. Not only trying, people like you are helping him. Well, enjoy is all I can say. Glad I didn't vote for him. This is all you folks. :)
Oh, it isn't $700 billion any more... it is
now $850 billion!!, I am shocked both Senators from LA, 1 Dem (Landrieu) and 1 Rep (Vitter), voted NO.
    34 BILLION...............
To the poster who said ALL the garbage had been taken out of the stimulus bill, which of course hasn't, I suppose you believe the Dept of Commerce spending 34 BILLION of our money is just fine, especially since they are a huge anti-American group to begin with.   Do your homework.....Dept of Commerce is not the least bit interested in businesses in this country.
    Gee, $1.2 billion?
pretty soon we'll be talking about real money!
You will never be able to deny that $559 billion
    su
That would have been 30 billion to ACORN of the...sm
return on the investments. That and other returns going to special interests.

Think about it. This is an investment. NOT a bailout. They need to get rid of that word.

If the dems wanted to write in 30 billion dollars to the ACORN from future profits....and others....they know this is an investment.

They need to tell the public this.

These profits need to be returned to the taxpayer, and to Social Security and pay down the national debt.

    Not more special interests.

That's a big holdup of all the add ons that the dems put on, that need to be changed for the good of the people.

They need to get back closer to three pages....instead of 103 pages of earmarks for special interests.

I thought it came out of the 700 billion as...
part of the consumer housing protection part of it. The way I understand the 700 billion is that is how much is allotted but nothing in the bill said specifically how it was going to be spent other than to "rescue" the economy. The bill did have mortgage protections in it, meaning "try to keep people in their homes." So, I believe that he is saying 300 billion of the 700 billion would go to that purpose.
    $14 billion in taxes isn't even a
Certainly, no reason to legalize a dangerous substance, which is what pot is.

Let's reverse all the smoking restrictions and get all our kids hooked on cigarettes instead, if that's our logic. We'll make a lot more than $14 billion!

Stamp out tobacco and legalize pot. We're doing some real good thinking here.

And hey! You! Drop that Twinkie and put your hands in the air! Wipe those crumbs off your lips! This is the Fat Police you're dealing with, buster, and you're goin' downtown. Lookout boys! He's got a can of whipped cream under his shirt!

(Later, at home): Son, I'm so disappointed in you. Why can't you smoke pot like all the other kids?
700 billion dispersed to every citizen would only come to
    .
I heard this morning it was over $850 billion...
with added stuff...one particular one I saw was for wool research and wooden children's arrows of all things. The Republicans did manage to get some tax cuts in there that will help to a point so that maybe not so much of the $700 billion will have to go out...because people will be encouraged to invest again. A drop in the bucket probably, but at least a try. Now it has to go back to the house and no telling what they will want to add. The bill went from what was posted on the internet (about 10 pages I think) to 450+. Sigh. THAT kind of experience we don't need anymore of. Bring on Sarah Palin. I wish we could replace every member of congress with common sense folks like Sarah Palin. THAT is change I can believe in. I am sick to DEATH of Washington Politics as usual.

As to Dodd and Frank...I hear that! Not willing to accept one iota of the blame when they should have all of it. And where is the mainstream media? Out to lunch? Can you imagine what will happen to this country if Obama is elected, with a Democrat majority and mainstream media cover? What is WRONG with people? Hellooo. Sigh.
Mccain did say that he had a plan to use 300 billion...
of the 700 billion to buy back bad mortgages and renegotiate them to a fixed rate so that people could stay in their homes. Obama said this morning that was a bad idea and it rewarded bad lenders. But it WOULD protect the homeowners. He can't have it both ways, and neither can you.

Obama has not said how he will fix the economic crisis either. He talks in generalities. He said that yes, maybe some programs should be cut, but won't given even ONE example. He says he still plans to raise taxes on the rich (which are the businesses, the corporations, most of the jobmakers in this country). Now you tell ME how THAT is going to HELP the economy.

McCain has said he would FREEZE spending except for the most necessary programs. THAT is what will HELP the economy. If Obama said freeze spending his base woudl go apoplectic.

McCain has said more specific things than Obama has said about getting us out of his crisis. You just aren't listening to anyone but Obama and the Obama campaign. I am listening to BOTH of them.
    errr...$2.1 billion committment....
    Why can I not type?
The deficit is coming down. It is down by 18 billion just recently

how do you know no one has anyone serving over there.  You have no way of knowing that.

It took spending 1-1/2 BILLION dollars a month...sm
over years on the war in Iraq to get us to this point, borrowing from other countries, the highest deficit ever, printing money by the government with no gold behind it to drive the value of our dollar down around the world. Nothing to do with the democrats. When Bush became president we had a huge surplus. Did you forget that?
Remember the $150 billion in TARP "sweeteners"
That one was sorta like a bribe to get pubs onboard. This bill rider is a bit different, maybe a tad more understandable but nonetheless, pretty hard to swallow, given the circumstances. Apparently, whereas Congress gets an automatic COLA raise, judges' raises have to be subjected to vote. In 6 of the last 13 years, judges were denied COLA raises (leaving their salaries stagnated at a mere $169,300 annually). This particular measure was the only remaining unresolved issue remaining on this lame duck congressional session. They will be getting 2.3% raise, if it passes. Here's a link:

Fannie/Freddie going to cost 7 billion...
    if we are lucky.
Yeah.Like it's hard to live with $12 Billion

    8600 earmarks = 6 BILLION DOLLARS!
to that line by line lie Obama told when he wanted to be elected?  He hasn't looked at one page, let one line by line...... thanks to all who put such a thug and liar in office!
Just read today that the deficit is projected to go down to 313 billion very soon. sm
That's well over 100 billion less, but I know how hard it is to shape the words of appreciation for Hitler Nazi war criminal Bush, so the rest of us will just celebrate.
Unemployed? Government will give you $1 BILLION to fix Iraq

Miss Wasilla please chill, a 30-billion pipeline is not God's Will! nm
    1
Figure 2 billion a week for 5, going on 6, years on an illadvised war,
700 billion a year on foreign oil, robberbarons in Iraq, Blackwater, Halliburton, on and on and on.  That's where your money went, folks.  And the average man will have to fend for himself for the necessities of life; food, clothing, shelter, life itself. This is the mess we are in, and we can only blame ourselves for not speaking out.  We had a gov't at one time that was for the people, by the people.  It's gone, folks, and we let it slip away.
    Well lets see
try having a daughter wandering around like a ghost and a 2-year-old grandson wondering where his daddy is. Try having to explain to a 2 yo why daddy is never coming back. Yeah your right, the holidays are not great around here this year as I am sure they are not great for a lot of families who have lost someone in Bush's miserable war. So why dont you and Writer go natter elsewhere and let the grownups talk here.
    lets see her

Okay, let's have Mrs. Palin on the interview shows.  I want to see her interviewed by Bob Shieffer, Mat Lauer, Andrea Mitchell, George Stephanopoulous, Meet the Press, etc.  We saw that she can really deliver a written speech well.  I want to hear her personal views on foreign affairs and improving the economy. She has experience in Alaskan news, so I will expect a camera-ready, polished performance.

    Lets all say............
Obama doesn't have any experience, executive or foreign!!!! And yet, he's running for President.

At least Palin knows what executive experience is, which is more than Obama has.
    Oh lets s/m
We need to lighten up around here.  I'll start a thread and then I really have to get busy.
    lets not go there
OK I can understand questioning his name given 9/11.  But what the heck does it have to do with being black?  Can you please tell me?  I swear.
    okay, lets go with that....(sm)

Let's say for the sake of argument that he is Muslim.  With this in mind, he would be going to a christian church, all the while faking having the christian belief.  So when Rev. Wright gets up and preaches, I can assume that since Obama is supposedly a Muslim and not a christian, that he would not believe what is being preached.  If Obama is not influenced by what is preached in this church, then what's the big deal about Rev Wright and the supposedly big impact he had on Obama?

    lets tar and feather them
This lying immoral corrupt administration needs to be tar and feathered and handed over to the families who lost loved ones in this illegal war and occupation of a nonthreatening country.  I have lost no one, however, I gotta tell ya, if I had lost someone, I would not be as kind and soft spoken as Cindy Sheehan.  I would be hell on wheels.
Just trying to help, sm lets people know there is ...sm
a message inside. If you put nm, no one will open your post because they think there is nothing inside.
lets just wait and see how it

all plays out.  As for McCain being incontinent, I did not know that until you said so. That's a shame.

I know, lets just talk about....(sm)
Obama's b/c.  It's perfectly okay to try to discredit the guy who isn't even in office yet over a bunch of unsubstantiated rumors, but let's not talk about the guy who is in office now who has single-handedly brought this country to it's knees as well as destroyed all credibility of this country on a global scale.  Again, Bush is still running new legislation through that will affect us for years to come unless it can be reversed.  How about that new agreement with Afghanistan?  Yeah, that would be the one that will directly impact our people over there -- not in a positive way.  It sounds to me like you have a good case of *out of sight, out of mind.*  That's a pity.
Yes they will see increases when the O lets ...sm
the Bush tax cuts expire in 2010.

    Everyone's taxes will go up.

    Everyone.

Interesting how the O doesn't bring this fact up at all, like it will have nothing to do with him.

hmm...no you win....lets argue about that instead. nm

    lets get it straight abc
i said "Your can save us" what does that mean?  That is what I said.  I also said i think you are stalking me or something like that because you bashed me over and over and called me a stalker.  I never said anything hateful in that post and never said your spelling sucks.  Also, I am done arguing with you and all the people on this board like you.  You know the ones that are just looking for a fight.  The ones that LOVE to stir the pot and point out everyone's faults but their own.  The ones that scream hate and prejudice and all that crap when someone voices an opinion that is slightly different than their own.  Have fun tearing each other apart.  I will post my beliefs and opinions and ignore the people that get on simply to stir up anger.
Lets look at the big picture

Seems like each time a president leaves office everyone "hems and haws" at the list of people they pardon (especially those who dislike whatever president is leaving office).  Every exiting president has had their list of people who should never have received pardons.  Some yes, like first time offenders, people arrested for mairjuana, or caught turning back odometers, etc).

Maybe you should have also posted the list of people Clinton pardoned.  All you said was "he pardoned some nice ones too".  You make it sound  like GW is pardoning hardened criminal while BC only pardoned some people who did petty crimes.  Even though you didn't say that, by saying "he pardoned some nice ones too" it takes away from the seriousness of the people he did pardon.  But since you didn't post Clinton's pardons I will.  Now before anyone throws a fit because I know a lot of you think Clinton is the best thing since sliced bread, I'm just posting to show that he pardoned as many creeps as Bush is.  (BTW - I didn't, have never, and do not support Bush - can't stand the guy, but at let's try to keep it honest here).  Oh and my favorites are the money launderers, income tax evaders, bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the government, issuing worthless checks, bank fraud, etc - all those things that helped to start bringing our economy down).  Those and Roger Clinton, Marc Rich, and Susan McDougal,  I did notice how he pardoned a lot of people who lied, but then again that was Clinton's whole 8 years in office - one lie after another, so doesn't surprise me he pardoned people who lied under oath.

You said something in regards to food stamps...look at #22 on Clintons list - Unauthorized use and transfer of food stamps.  I found an interesting article called "10 Heated Presidential Pardons" that goes back to George Washington.  I'll post the link.  All I'm saying here is that each president throughout our history has pardoned some pretty bad people that should not be pardoned.  GW is no different and no more worse than any of the previous.  Here's the article - an interesting read.
