.....those "sm" stereotypes do it every day, and there is at least one in particular, maybe you, maybe not, maybe the other liberal "sm" poster...you know who you are.....and the posting style is unmistakable, as well as the demeaning manner towards conservative posters. I have to point out your rather liberal
sprinkling of the word "all" which would make a rather interesting discourse untrue. It should also be noted it was legal on both sides to pay someone to go in your place or your son's place to service. There also were blacks serving on both sides, some even freely. I honestly don't know who or where the southern blacks served, but the northern ones were made to stay in their own units, not with whites. Not all plantation owners were rich, nor did they all leave and come back later. After Sherman went through, there really was not much left to come back to in all honesty, nor was there any money since confederate money was worthless. Are you saying you think they should have kept the "freed slaves" on their land? How were they going to support them. Anyway, they probably would have been accused to still having slaves. Many of them could no longer pay the exorbitant taxes, at least the ones where reconstruction had not moved in people from the north into their homes. There is just is no one single story here to define the whole that was happening.
And, excuse my confusion, but weren't the northerners republican and the southerns democrats? Just commenting regarding your post, don't plan on starting a range war over it.

I was talking about any government administered health plan. You can choose to ignore the VA system or Canada's government controlled health plan if you want to....I choose not to. With that being said...no more on government health care.

When I was little my mom struggled to feed the two of us because my dad was a deadbeat. She went to the welfare office asking for just a little help to feed us. They told her that she made too much money but if she quit her job, they would pay for everything: housing, food, everything. She could have easily taken the easy route and taken them up on their offer but had too much integrity. Here she was making too much money in their eyes but many weeks only had $5 after bills to feed herself and her only child. Now that is a messed up government. I'm all for helping people help themselves. Pay for day care while they get an education, pay for food while they work to better themselves but NOT pay for them to drive fancy cars, have satellite that they watch on big screen TVs, and eat potato chips and ice cream. Get real, open your eyes, and quit making excuses for the lazy! We're not talking about the needy. Yes, there are people are mentally or physically unable to work. That is NOT who we are talking about!

The Palestinians are just a tad out-gunned, wouldn't you say? This might just account for the lop-sided fatalities/injuries ratios between the Israelis and the Palestinians. In closing, it is worth noting that even with the advantage of all those terrorist toys and tools our tax dollars have bestowed upon them, security and peace of mind just seem to be further and further beyond their reach. Wonder why that is?

and even during the Lunsford trial back on the old board this did not seem to be a conservative concern. Liberals posted more about this and conservatives posted more about the Shiavo case. I'm not going to get into who cares or who doesn't because all I know is child molestion is hovering at the top of the list for me. I think while this is a morality issue, it is a legal and political one as well. Our legal system has to protect the most vunerable in society - the children, and our politicians should do whatever in their power, i.e., change laws to protect them.
This is the one topic that I see eye to eye with Bill O'Rielly on. He thinks every state should adopt Jessica's Law and I agree and I think people should consider if the person they are voting for will make changes in this direction. Just look at the Groene children and how the man who killed that family and abducted the two young children was out on BOND for molesting a 6 year-old. A repetitive offender can waltz around with no worries and continue his spree on innocent people.
Jessica's Law should apply to the leader of the Oregon Christian Coalition too. The thing that disturbs me the most about the priests and religious leaders is that oftentimes other people know what's going on but they cover it up.

My post was in direct reference to the OP "blaming" Bush for something that isn't his fault. DHL is looking to the future and that is why they are laying off people. Not because of anything that's happened in the past.

it was written by a black pastor and it is his opinion. He was not hired by nor affiliated with the McCain campaign. There are several black preachers who do not agree with black liberation theology. There was nothing in his post about hatred. He said homosexuality was a sin..it is. He didn't say he hated gays...just that the Bible says the ACT is a sin..and it is. Just like lying, adultery, murder, etc. It does have the distinction of being the one sin that God classified as an "abomination." All the preacher was pointing out was that when Obama said there was nothing specific in the Bible regarding homosexuality...he was wrong. Again...there is no hatred in that post. He just doesn't agree with Obama's philosophy. Where you get hate from that I don't know....did you even read the post?
And by the way....sniping and cattiness must be your strong suit? You seem to excel in that area. Can you just drop the cattiness and sniping (as you asked that I do) and go figure, as you told me to do? Thank you so very much.

I am talking about his followers. And yes, it is more like followers than supporters, and a great many of them, including on this board, turn into a snarling, snapping, pack attack on anyone who posts anything negative or unflattering about him. I cannot believe you can say that no one can make you hate. We all have the capacity within us to hate. But no one hates spontaneously and it most certainly can be taught. do you think Islamic terrorists were born hating? Of course not. But they are taught it, and they learn it. Just the way a lot of kids were taught racism. THey werren't born hating, it was taught to them until they thought that was the way it was supposed to be. They didn't even know it was hate. Louis Farrakhan preaches hate. The I disagree totally that hate comes from within and that no one can make you hate. Oh yes they can.
All that being said...I did not say that by design Obama makes his followers that way...I said I didn't know. But the fact remains, those are the traits they exhibit.

This son can go ahead and say this about anyone and we are just supposed to buy that it is all communist related? I am so tired of arguing with the closed minded religious nutbags (my sister who newly turned mormon is the worst to talk to - she is so closed minded). The christians always have an answer for everything and they won't listen to the truth.
They also haven't researched who our founding fathers were and what they went through because of what they believed. I think Thomas Paine probably got it the worst. They were the most brilliant men in our history and I'm sure they are rolling over in their grave everytime they hear someone saying our founding fathers were christians or the country was founded on Christianity. Reminds me of when I was watching the O'Reilly factor (who is catholic) and he was trying to tell some Jewish guy that Catholics invented marriage. Luckily the Jewish guest called him on it.

I don't care what happened back in June, July or whenever. You just confirmed what I had said in my post and it sounds like you want some "pay back" for whatever you think you want it for. Who knows, and I don't care. My point I was making was I'd like to see positive posts. I'd like to see true discussions about the candidate you favor and why you favor them or don't favor them (and facts to back up your approval or disapproval). Over the past week I've seen hateful posts not only to Sam but to others who don't agree (whether it's for Obama or McCain). All I'm asking is the board to go back to what it was originally meant for...not a "fight club".

I'm not sure if you are trying to insinuate if Obama had anything to do with this. Tragedies happen and whether you are for or aganst someone trying to link them because they went to the same church to me seems absurd. That would be about the same as trying to link Tom Cruise to the Heavens Gate murders. It's an awful tragedy that happened for whatever reason. There are a lot of people filled with hate these days. Even DH and I were saying last night about the little girl in Texas that was murdered, how can someone actually have the mind to do something horrendous like that. But if your trying to link Obama to this, even though I don't support him I think this is quite far fetched and sounds like your trying to stir up something that isn't there.
You could probably take every murder that occurred and tie it in to something. When it is just a horrible horrible tragedy.

The supreme court has not ordered him to produce the original; they are simply reviewing the lower court's ruling regarding Berg bringing the suit in the first place. There is no order to produce the document. This is simply a measure that Berg and the other attorneys requesting the writ are now hoping will bring pressure on the electors to force them to demand the document be presented. But at this point there is no order to produce.

was starting to wonder. You have to realize that was one aspect of the overall picture. White men are unfairly treated in other ways and if you buy into commercials, they are the dumbest of the dumb, apparently. They are always the butt of the joke, usually against the wives. You can't help but wonder how much of this affects the kids. I really hate some of the commercials; they show things I did not particularly want mine to see. As far as I am concerned, victoria's secret is soft porn and inappropriate for children to see. My own mother last week said she wished the men and women would go get a room and quit flouting their viagra on her TV! Well, the haves will continue to look out for themselves and their kids, just ask the cops who arrested the daughter of the mayor of Houston for DUI. This is the guy who started the safe tow in Houston for those who broke down. you know those cops had theirs covered when they arrested her, but she still got off.
The single mom thing is really hard, I had 4. It does not help when they have to listen to the others at school who get every little thing their hearts desire and yours have to do without; they will be better off later and I already hear that from mine. Just the other day, my oldest told me, "Mom, I don't know what I would be doing right now since being laid off if we had not been so poor growing up - I would be losing my mind". good luck to you.
Oh, one other thing. I am seeing first hand some of the treatment now that more minorities are gaining power and some of them are worse than the good ole boys ever thought about being. I went into the workforce when laid off and took a test, made 100, that was last October, and they have never pointed me to a single job. But I was in there long enough to take in the fact they were happily helping others. I resent it and I guess some would call it payback. I think americans may have to deal with the fact that our quality of life is taking a nosedive. We will be forced to bundle up like they used to do in order to survive.

I have been of the mind that the people promoting this line of objection possibly would never truly accept that the birth certificate is/could be legit. I appreciate that you took the time to explain not only what would alleviate your doubts, but also why you have those doubts.
In return, here is my justification for believing that his BC is legit or is a non-issue. First is that he has been in politics long enough and his presidential aspirations were known for such a length of time that if he did not meet this particular requirement, someone would have actually proven it a long time ago, especially a fellow Democratic rival. (Pols seem to be most vicious with their own at times.) Also, to me at least, the actual location of his birth is irrelevant. His mother was an American citizen, and although at the time of his birth the law required her to be 4 years past (I believe) the age of 16, later amendments were passed altering that requirement retroactively to a period beginning far beyond and encompassing the year of his birth.
As far as the "natural-born" portion of requirement meaning born on U.S. territory, well...I was born in Scotland while my parents were on vacation (and have continued to surprise them ever since). Does that mean, since my father is Scottish and my mother American, that I am ineligible to ever run for president since I was not born on American soil? I am American according to our government and have never had to apply for citizenship even though I was born in a foreign country. To me, natural-born means born to a citizen that did not require a naturalization process to become a citizen. (I sure hope I stated that in a way that makes sense.)
Also, there is some component of grandparents' citizenship that comes into play, but I have never had reason to look into that. I will though, when I get the time, and see if that has any relevance in this instance.

beliefs are strongly Christian, but I am a Christian who also believes wholeheartedly in the separation between church and state, FYI. I was answering the person who is scared. Christians should not be afraid of anything, if they truly believe that God is in control. Just my opinion.
