Good for you for voting your conscience.
Thank you for your kind words.  We can disagree without being disagreeable.  I still believe that we can pull through this mess with a lot of time and effort.  All I'm asking is to give him a chance.
Sounds like you ARE voting - nm

This sort of thing is not subject to Presidential trickery of that sort. nm

Congress Helps Self to $3,100 Pay Raise
    By David Espo
    The Associated Press

    Friday 18 November 2005

Washington - The Republican-controlled Congress helped itself to a $3,100 pay raise on Friday, then postponed work on bills to curb spending on social programs and cut taxes in favor of a two-week vacation.

In the final hours of a tumultuous week in the Capitol, Democrats erupted in fury when House GOP leaders maneuvered toward a politically-charged vote - and swift rejection - of one war critic's call for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. You guys are pathetic, pathetic, Massachusetts Rep. Martin Meehan yelled across a noisy hall at Republicans.

On another major issue, a renewal of the Patriot Act remained in limbo as an unlikely coalition of liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans sought curbs on the powers given law enforcement in the troubled first days after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Both the House and Senate were in session after midnight Thursday, working on the tax and deficit-cutting bills at the heart of the GOP agenda, before returning to work a few hours later.

What it does is start to turn down the escalating costs ... for our children and our grandchildren. One of the things that we cannot leave to that next generation is a huge deficit that they can't afford, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said after enactment of a $50 billion deficit-reduction bill.

Democrats dissented, with one eye on the 2006 elections.

The Republicans are taking food out of the mouths of children to give tax cuts to America's wealthiest. This is not a statement of America's values, said the Democratic leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California. Democrats believe that together, America can do better, she said, invoking the party's new campaign slogan.

The cost-of-living increase for members of Congress - which will put pay for the rank and file at an estimated $165,200 a year - marked a brief truce in the pitched political battles that have flared in recent weeks on the war and domestic issues.

So much so that the issue was not mentioned on the floor of either the House or Senate as lawmakers worked on legislation whose passage will assure bigger paychecks.

Lawmakers automatically receive a cost of living increase each year, unless Congress votes to block it. By tradition, critics have tried to block increases by attaching a provision to the legislation that provides funding for the Treasury Department. One such attempt succeeded in the Senate earlier in the year, but the provision was omitted from the compromise measure moved toward final approval.

The overall bill provided $140 billion for transportation, housing and other programs. It cleared the House on a vote of 392-31. Senate passage was by voice vote.

Pay raise harmony aside, Republicans spent the day celebrating a party-line, post-midnight vote in which the House cleared legislation to reduce deficits by $50 billion over five years. The vote was 217-215, with all the Democrats who voted in opposition, along with 14 GOP rebels.

Acting Majority Leader Roy Blunt of Missouri said Republicans would make their tax cut bill the top item on the agenda when lawmakers return to the Capitol in December.

The House-passed measure attacks deficits by limiting spending for the first time in a decade on Medicaid, food stamps, student loans and other benefit programs that normally rise with inflation and eligibility.

The House GOP leadership had hoped to clear the measure a week ago. It was forced to retreat when Republican moderates rebelled, even after Hastert agreed to strip out a controversial proposal to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.

The Senate-passed companion measure calls for less deficit reduction, $35 billion over five years, but includes the ANWR provision.

The differences are expected to make it difficult for the House and Senate to reach a compromise by year's end, particularly since Republicans can't count on any Democratic support.

The tax bill presents difficulties of its own for a GOP majority struggling to translate last fall's election gains into this year's legislative achievements.

The Senate cleared a measure after 1:30 a.m. that calls for $60 billion in cuts over five years.

The measure drew bipartisan support, passing on a vote of 64-33. Its provisions would continue a series of existing tax breaks that otherwise will expire, and shelters 14 million upper middle-income families from higher taxes.

The White House has threatened a veto, citing a provision that raises taxes on oil companies.

The House has yet to pass a companion measure. When it does, the tax on oil companies is unlikely to be included, and it is likely to be jettisoned before a compromise measure reaches the White House.

Hastert said Republicans want to make sure that we support our troops that are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan ... a lot of people say: Look, this is a tough time, we just ought to pull out and leave. We pull out and leave, we strand an effort to make sure that we can tamp down terrorism, to tamp down a dictatorship, that we can stabilize an area in the Middle East, he added.

GOP aides conceded the last-minute maneuver was designed to put Democrats in a political squeeze - voting for withdrawal and exposing themselves to attacks from the White House, or voting against it and risk angering the voters that polls show want an end to the conflict.

Democrats angrily attacked the GOP move, then lined up with Republicans to vote against a troop withdrawal in hopes of draining the issue of its political significance. The vote was 403-3 against the measure.

Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., called the measure a piece of garbage and an attack on Rep. John Murtha. The Pennsylvania Democrat, a decorated veteran and respected congressional voice on military matters, said Thursday it was time for the troops to come home.

House and Senate negotiators announced a tentative agreement earlier in the week to pass a seven-year extension of the Patriot Act. Key senators lawmakers involved in the talks balked at the terms, and officials said they would resume compromise efforts when Congress returns to work in December.

Vote your conscience, then. If you are so sure you are right...
why do you get so angry? It is infanticide when you allow a child who survives abortion to die. Which Obama voted for twice. If your conscience tells you that is fine, so be it. If referring to the baby as a blob of tissue makes it okay with your conscience, so be it. No need to get angry about it.
Unfortunately, he never had a brain or a conscience
xx
My conscience tells me that it is murder.....sm
and that is even apart from what my religious beliefs tell me. I believe in life at the moment of conception as I stated in my post above. I won't go into all that again.

As far as amounts and agencies and how monies from my taxes and every one else's taxes are distributed to help provide medical care for those who receive free (to them) medical care, of course I can't provide that. I am not privy to where each of my tax dollars go and how much of it is spent on various government agencies or governmental salaries, etc., and neither do you. Funny, though, you're not asking Obama to produce his birth certificate or from whom he received campaign contributions, huh.
Evidently, some rich folks have a conscience
for the sake of COUNTRY FIRST.
My conscience is my guide. Personally, I thnk

we should have stayed out of Irag and minded our own business.I think we need to work on cleaning up America before we start on other countries.   I don't like the fact that innocent men, wome and children were and are being killed.  I stated that he is the lesser of 2 evils and I am following my conscience.

I gotta wonder how long that "right of conscience..."
thing would last if someone refused to prescribe Viagra or Cialis or refuse to treat a "victim" in the ER who's had a "problem" for more than four hours (as advertised/warned on TV).
Voting for the lesser of 2 evils is still voting for evil. sm
The 2 main choices are horrible. They only offer a continuation of the status quo. Nothing on bringing the troops home (now not 5 years from now), no sound monetary policy, reinstating our civil liberties, etc. Third party candidates have better platforms. People should be voting principles over party, or you deserve whatever you get.
Many repubs voting for Obama in my experience..OR NOT VOTING ..only
only a few stragglers left, like the 26 percent who don't hate Bush.

Most people voting for Obama are voting on emotion...sm
You may be the exception.

All that matters is hope and change. At what cost, my friend, at what cost, will your hope and change come at.

He will try to change the very foundation of this country, the constitution, and our very way of life.

If I wanted that, I'd move back to Russia where some of my ancestors came from.

I can recognize socialism and Marxism, even if half the country cannot.

They only care for hope. And change.

sort of
If an abortion is survived and the child "takes breath," then yes, I believe G-d has given a soul to that child.

As for Obama's vote in that matter, there is a lot more too it than you are posting. I have researched the bill, the votes, etc. I certainly don't believe he was condoning murder with this bill.
I sort of agree with you, but I think.....sm
that we won't necessarily be a third-world country, but rather a non-existant country. He is always talking so much the Europeans and how we should be so much more like them, and like you said, it seems he wants to be the president of the UN... I wouldn't doubt his trip over there had something to do with putting the wheels in motion for the US to join the European Union. JMHO of course.

I don't disagree with a lot of what he says as far as helping others, etc., but I can't afford to pay more taxes! We are in that middle ground where we're not poor enough to pay no taxes or get any of the freebies, yet make just enough to pay so many taxes we can't afford to do anything other than pay our bills with what's left.

I'd love to help the homeless, the infirm, the disabled, but I simply can't afford to do much more than volunteer a little time now and then and put a few coins in a fundraising can, but if Mr. Obama gets his way, I'll have to take away from mine to give to them anyway.

I'm so sick and tired of seeing friends and acquaintances who have little or no job, get food stamps and free babysitters for ''respite'' time for themselves, get free medical and dental care and TAKE HUGE VACATIONS that I could scream!! I work full time plus and my husband is self-employed working 24/7 too and we can't afford to take a vacation. We can't afford to get sick or need medication. I need new glasses badly right now, but I simply can't afford it. There are people in our area who are on all the programs and go and get into fights in bars and get their glasses broken and go to the eye doctor the next day and just get new ones. I just don't think it's fair.

But I also think that that is the plan... get us all to start believing that our lives will be easier if we let the government take care of us (and it would be!), but once we're all on the dole, watch out... because then that's when the free things will stop and you'll be sorry.

I'm not saying I favor one candidate over an other right now, I'm still waiting for the debates. I'm not anxious to hear what they can ''do for me'' but rather what they are going to do to help me help myself. I've run out of ways to make my money go any further. We don't live fancy, never have. We don't go out but maybe once or twice a year to dinner, never to a movie or club. Our home is old and plain and almost paid for and we have no other debt. We have worked very hard over the last 28 years to get to where we are today and I feel like the rug is being pulled out from under us. I just want to vote for whoever is not going to take away what I have worked so hard for.
my point exactly - well sort of
Why HC & JM dropped it? - I have no idea. We do know that BO and HC had private meetings, so who knows what went on there. I'm sure she was told to drop it (by the people funding BO) and offered a high ranking position, but we will never really know. JM - probably dropped it because if he pushed it they would have found that he too was not of legal standing to run for the position. But he was so weak and in no way had any of the funding that BO did and therefore was totally destroyed by BO. The party should have been smarter and picked somebody better, but then again GW's presidency (even though decisions are controlled by congress and the COB and the President is only a talking head) was such a failure I don't think any decent republican even had a chance at winning.

The media dropped it plain and simple. The MM is an organized propaganda tool. (Do you wonder why they don't report on 80% of the top stories going on). Maybe once or twice over the holiday weekend did they report on the situation in India. Even then it was given only a few moments. Then they had to go back to reporting about the Hollywood crowd and prisons in America, etc. Also, this is a very hot topic, and people who have been trying to get to the bottom of the issue have been met with death threats and have had to change their name. One guy even found a dead rabbit hanging on his porch and his auto destroyed with a warning to stop his investigation. Therefore, with all the violent tempers, this is one story no media is going to touch. That's why we have to hear (read) about it on the internet.

As for people posting articles. As with any of these sites here if people think an article is worthwhile to post they should be able to post. If it's just someone ranting on an on and giving nonsense opinions that's one thing, but these articles are written by journalist, lawyers, and people who have been following issues closely. When people post articles about food shortages, or Canada going crazy in their elections, or mad cow disease or any of other numerous articles not related to BO, they are never met with the same response of "your article is not credible". It is only when an article is posted of what's happening with Barky that people will say its not credible and then cite a pro-Obama site.

Posting an article we want to has nothing to do with proving we are MTs or not being allowed to post to this forum. It is an article we find of interest. If some don't like it, then read it and as they say "move on", but to come back and say that the articles are not credible sources but theirs are, well that's were it just gets too silly.
This is the sort of person
who should be put in front of "our boys" should there ever be an attach on our soil!
Right. It's sort of hidden, but we will ALL

Why, to facilitate and sort of

ORGANIZE the whole volunteer process, you know?  I'm sure there'll be lots of green stuff to learn, like how to rat out your dumb, stubborn parents for using the wrong kind of light bulbs.  How to spot non-organic produce.  We'll love it.  It'll be great.  You'll see!  Soon we'll wonder how we ever got along without it.

And in the words of Ronald Reagan (yeah, another dead guy...everybody get over it, OK?)   'A government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever know on this earth.'

Wow...that is sort of confusing.
I guess if I were gay and had a partner, I'd just swap rings on my own and throw a party.  The love two people have between each other means more than a legal piece of paper, IMO.  I wouldn't travel to another state to get married just to go back home and it not mean anything legally.  As often as people get divorced, you gotta wonder if straight people really get marriage.
A poll of a sort........... sm

What, in your opinion, originally defined right behavior from wrong behavior?

This not only applies to the discussion below but also any wrong behavior such as stealing, murder, rape, or any one of the other blights on the face of mankind.  Please explain your answer citing whatever source of information supports your argument.

So you have to be some sort of HUMANITARIAN to be nominated.

That explains Bush's exclusion on that list.  How embarrassed and ashamed should America be to see the leader of another, presumably poorer country try to provide humanitarian aid to Americans because our own president believes humanitarian aid begins with oil companies and ends with those intent on eliminating American freedom?

I wonder if he views our president as an oppressor and if he plans to invade and occupy our country to save us from Bush and to spread his superior form of government to the United States.

Sorry.  I was just being silly.  No credible leader in the world would ever do anything like THAT.....WOULD HE????

Sort of like Confederacy currency?

The economic summit was held behind closed doors.  The politicians on both sides are probably gleefully aware that the American people are so busy blaming Democrats/Republicans they can't take time to see what is really going on.  BOTH parties are to blame.  I expect Bush made a deal behind closed doors and he'll pass it off to Obama who will continue.  My opinion is we are no longer a free nation, we just haven't been informed of the new rules yet.  He who has the gold rules and the foreign nations certainly have the gold. I don't personally expect Obama to make any great change, I just hope he will change some things that he can which might actually benefit the middle class but I honestly doubt it.  WE, the "sheeple" have let this great country get in this condition and WE are going to have to fix it...if it isn't too late.  I expect our forefathers are turning in their graves because of how we've squandered the freedom they fought and died to give us.

I take back what I said sort of - see message
I keep reading more and more websites that say the Wetland project in SF IS in the bill. I've been trying to find a link that will give word for word what is in the stimulus plan but I can't find anything. Since you said it's not in the plan can you give me a link that shows what exactly is in the plan?
your reply is sort of cute....nm
nm
This was meant to be a sort of black humor!! nm
nm
I'm just sort of in shock. I'm not even going to post a link. nm

I guess I would say more center because I have sort of walked (sm)
the line between democrat and republican all along, so that would be more along with my thinking. I guess as far as what I would want to lose to get more to the center, I would have to say that I would want partial-birth or late term abortions to be illegal unless it was a threat to the mother's life. I would want unwanted babies who are born alive to have human rights to receive appropriate medical care. The other issue I have with O is his associations, but of course that has nothing to do with whether he is farther right or left, so I guess abortion is my only right/left issue.
The Post (sort of) issued an apology.

Ironically (LOL), when I read some posts on this board denying this is blatant racism by the Post, the mental image I get is this (hoping it prints):

Hear

They're always putting out this sort of thing, actually.
...just round-file it.
Voting present and not voting, who has
the highest record in DC of simply not voting - McCain. Yes, Obama is up there too but ole' McCain is #1 for no votes.
Bush was sort of in national guard but never showed for the physical... that counts? Cheney was nev
duh?? ya'll?
then you should be fine

This is yet another fine..
reason to stay out of Wal-Mart. If everyone who is so upset about words would put the same amount of energy into confronting Wal-Mart about all their real sins we would all be a lot better off.
It's fine....
I'm probably still upset about Howard Dean being run out of the race way back when... I'm just sick of the whole scene.
Fine: s/m
Then you can sit down for crumpets and tea with all the madmen who hate America for our freedom.  Keep in mind that unless you believe in this radical Islam (2 more words which the drive-by media has completely eradicated) you (including Obama) are an infidel.  A close friend of my husband (mine, too) is from Iran.  He's as active in conservative politics as many of us are.  Gee, I wonder why...
Fine by me........
As far as I'm concerned, the UN definitely has no credibility and never has. It is a joke of an organization and one the U.S. DOES NOT belong in!!! They wouldn't know credibility if it slapped them in the face let alone credibility of a good woman.
no name is fine and not every uses me and
maybe I've missed something but I've never seen anyone sign their messages I. I could be wrong, but I've never seen it.

The reason is your and my viewpoints differ so much. There are too many people switching names on a daily basis and I prefer to just keep it to me. That way people won't think I've gone off the deep end or taking any drugs when you spew your fabrications about O'No.
If that happens, fine. But at least I will have had NOTHING to do with it...
and I can live with that.
Thanks, she's doing fine
have to wait for bx results.  I think no news is good news.  Appreciate the prayers!
That's fine with me
it's been needing some livening up anyways! :)
Thanks. I will be fine
I could see it coming for the past few months and had cut my hours back. Also, I have always had 1 or 2 other jobs just to protect myself.

I had sent out some resumes over the past few months because I had a bad feeling about the hospital, and actually started a new job the day after I got the bad news. The money is not as good, but it is better than not getting paid at all!
Everything is not fine in our country

... but I will put my flag up on the 4th of July.

I find it so sad that our country is so very divided and the ugliness and meaness has come out of everyone's mouths.

It seems that some of it is the religious versus the nonreligious, the gay and the hetero, our way or no way..

no matter who is president, we are all equal and should all be treated wiht respect.

Peace.

Yes, they are very fine words..
written by some very fine minds. Ghandi says much the same. I think I'll stick with the great minds. Cat bites and scratches dangerous ?...sometimes...people who mistreat animals or wish them harm dangerous ?...always.
Those are really fine words.
However, if the cat is harming human life, and everyone knows how toxic a cat scratch or bite can be, and the owner refuses to maintain her animal, what is the solution?  Maybe a new home.
That's fine if you want to be told
you aren't worthy of an MRI, right? Because it's too expensive?
Oh I don't know, you are doing a heck of a fine job...
passing off insult as intelligence. You have it down to a fine art. Verrryyy impressive. "Certainly the issues seem to be a big taboo." Well I suppose so...since I have asked you a very simple question repeatedly and you can't seem to stop with the insults long enough to answer it....lol.

As to plagiarizing...rather than do that, you just post under different monikers...to support your own argument I guess? Ahem. Ego need a little stroking there?

Hope you find some of that substantive conversation. Heaven only knows who would sit through a 20-minute dissertation hoping that at some time a point would emerge or just one little question would be answered. Good luck!
that's all well and fine, but today's
world never sees any racism as funny, so given the serious nature of this particular board, humor just did not come on the radar.
Sure she was fine with you until she wised up
and brings up talking points that represent concerns of the democratic party. Nothing wrong with considering all sides to a story.
She will handle herself just fine....
better than O, at the very least as well. And she is the #2 person...not the #1. We elect him, we get him day 1, and all the experience (limited though it is) is #2 on your ticket.
Just fine isn't good enough. nm
