Ask them how births are recorded. I think you will be surprised. EVERYTHING is now computerized. Even old birth records.

The local hospital uses a system like this
but it's just a matter of time until they will invest in the additional equipment so they no longer need any MTs. I forgot about all the file clerks, etc. in medical records whose jobs have already been cut. Lordy!!! What on earth are we all gonna do when they "save money" by taking away ALL our jobs.
Pretty hard to fight city hall........
There isn't a whole lot he can do with the pubs obstructing everything he is trying to accomplish. My theory is, they put up McPalin because they KNEW they wouldn't win because they have NO IDEA how to clean this freakin' mess up either. That way, just possibly, the RNC can gain some ground since they have all but buried themselves. Kinda like Carter inheriting Nixon's upstanding accomplishments. Gotta love the RNC, they are such an honest, upstanding, homophobic and value-oriented tribe. How's that for a wide stance?
I type for a local mental hospital
and I go in and get the tapes and bring them home. They don't use a big company for their transcription. I do this as a side job actually. The pay is much better than a big MT company as well. I enjoy typing those type of reports as well.
Yeah, reading is very educational.

Okay, so someone comes into the hospital with
feel that it's your right not to heal the person????? What kind of treatment is that?
don't know about the hospital
Both of my children were born at home. And no, souls aren't "inhaled" they are the breath of G-d. What a nasty comment from you.
Obama does not want a town hall...
anywhere because he has difficulty thinking on his feet. Town halls are two unstructured. He would be more likely to say what he really thinks instead of what has been rehearsed and talking points...and believe me that is the LAST thing his campaign wants.
Town hall meetings
Did Bush have town hall meetings with Gore? Kerry? Clinton with HW Bush? Dole? Reagan with Mondale? what's the big deal here? Aren'tthe nationally televised debates enough. Just because he declined town hall meetings with McCain does not in any way mean he "snubbed" New Orleans. Ridiculous. This is a non-issue.
They were at Football Hall of Fame
talking about how much bigger football players are. He jokingly asked reporter if he used to play and after reporter said no, he tapped his chest and told him to work on his pecs. It's called having a sense of humor. It's not like he felt up somebody.
The guy is a little nuts sure, but it is nice to see a candidate loosen up and act like human instead of a robot.
McCain leaving the hall
I don't know why he left without glad-handing his "friends." I do think it cooked his goose with a lot of people. How rude. I doubt Obama cared any more about the "friends' than McCain does but at least he put forth the effort to act like they were "friends" and he WAS a gentleman, even obviously angry at times, i.e. when he didn't get an opportunity to rebutt something McCain said. It was of so little substance I don't even remember what McCain said.
One part of our hospital tried VR and then
that was the emergency room, they went back to the regular dictation. The medical records, however, went to VR, excellent system and all the physicians are on there with the exception of the interns and they are only there for a month or so and they straight dictate. Ours did not start out with, as you put it, the good American doctors, everyone on and the system has learned amazingly well. I love VR and love doing it. On the other hand have just picked up several records for a variety of other physicians and the mistakes made on the EMRs are ridiculous. One place has me with hypotension, taking lisinopril and the last time I checked that was for high blood pressure. One place has me going in for abdominal pain, I think that was my upper legs were aching (how did that turn out to be the other?), no endocrine problems. I have hypothyroidism. Oh, the wrongful entering goes on.
I work on an EMR system for a hospital.
It has an interface where the physicians dictate and we transcribe. The report is then uploaded for physician review and signature. After being signed, the report is electronically filed in the patient's record. The patient records are stored electronically and are easily accessed by staff from any the hospitals within our healthcare system. At least in an acute care setting, the system has not replaced MT's but rather reduced the staffing in the in Medical Records.
Hey! In 1947, a hospital bill was
$1.25 to birth a baby. In 1969, it was $125. What is it today?
I don't believe Obama doesn't want town hall meetings....
because of the format...not to snub any particular town. He does not do when the questions are not scripted. No one knows what is going to be asked at a town hall meeting, and they are asked by regular folks, not paid commentators. Not enough control to suit Mr. Obama. I don't blame him. He doesn't have the experience to handle one, he would come off looking bad and he knows it. Politics 101. You would think, though, as much as he talks about hope and change and the people, he wouldn't mind answering a few questions from the people...?
Obama can't do a town hall meeting...he needs his teleprompter so he can
remember what to say on that given day.
Yep...and today he is holding a town hall in France...
yukking it up with Europe as his own country circles the drain....pittiiiffullll.
So souls are inhaled at the hospital? Interesting concept. (sm)
I don't think any of the Jewish people I know believe that but I will ask them.

Thanks for the advice.
I would suggest you do the same. It's important.
Again, some advice.
I haven't seen postings here every day that the market has gone down, nor when it has gone up. You're imagining things.
We would have absolutely no problem criticizing Obama's insane fiscal policy at any time, even on a day that the market went up 1000 points, or if it went up a million points, because the criticism isn't based on what the market does. It's based on the terrible bill that's coming due!
I know, it is ADVICE, I don't even know why I am
replying to your nonsense.
Okay, took your advice. None of the "scripts"
I saw were anything different than I have seen in ads or heard on the stump. So I suppose I don't understand the big deal. If people don't like the call...hang up. It's not like Obama doesn't do robocalls...he does. I guess people are just hanging up and not complaining about them?
Excellent advice! - nm

Good advice
I really would love to see the political board split in two. They can have the love fest on the liberal side and happy happy joy joy each other all day long while the spin around. They wouldn't have to worry or address any serious conversations because they would all be swept away in euphoria, and the rest of us could have some serious discussions on the conservative side. I think that would really be a good balance.
I like the advice of counting to 10 before replying. Will save a lot in frustratioins.
Reply....and some advice. sm
First, the advice. You never want to put yourself out on a limb like this by crowing over a one-day move in the stock market.
Now, the reply. It's odd to me that the very people who have discounted the idea that there is any "meaning" to stock market movements when the market is crashing would turn around and now propose that we garner some significance from the fact that it has recently had a rally.
Second, there are always rallies during bear markets, just like there are always down moves in bull markets. No market moves straight up or straight down.
Third, I see the markets are back down today.
Fourth, the problems that Obama's budget and bank bailout proposals will cause won't show up today or tomorrow. They'll be a long time coming...but mark my words, they're coming.
Fifth, a small percentage uptick in existing home sales from its previous disastrous levels means virtually nothing.
Sixth, it's very common these days to see even so-called sophisticated financial analysts wax poetic every time there is the slightest bit of "positive" news. They are, after all, in the investment industry and their jobs and incomes depend - even more so than yours or mine - on "things getting better". It's been rather funny, although pathetic, to watch them throughout this whole mess, grasping at every straw. You should pay less attention to them - they have an axe to grind.
It is possible that in time Obama will grow into this job. Every American has reason to hope so. To date, however, he has shown very little leadership, has stumbled badly on both the domestic and world diplomatic stage, and has shown himself to be impulsive and rather inept. So far, the American people aren't sure whether they have a man or a boy (and please, no "PC" comments) in the White House.
In my personal opinion, the President of this country is actually Nancy Pelosi, and Obama is little more than her obedient puppet.
My advice to your party if you want to win elections
start preparing for the future instead of living in the past.
Took your advice - went directly to the source -
Okay, went to the source. Says the same thing - Obama 49, McCain 47 with likely voters.
Drudge shows the facts. You were okay with them when they favored your candidate.
What I am hearing is if Obama was so much better than McCain he would certainly have a much larger lead (like 20 points or more), but he doesn't, which goes to show that it is a very close race and you need to prepare yourself that either candidate could win.
Need advice from Dems and Repubs sm
I am a swing voter. I am one who is on the fence about who to vote for. Here is my problem. I am finding that this year's presidential election is separating people. Republicans seem to be a little angrier lately since Obama leads in the pools. Dems are not as angry BUT they are very firm in their political choice. I am finding that I cannot have a discussion with anyone about this election. If I say anything about Palin, repubs jump all over me. If I question Biden, dems are horrified. I do want to vote. I will figure it all out through my own research. My question for everyone today is how do I stay friends with people during all this? Any words of advice will be appreciated as I found my self in tears this morning.
Perhaps you should follow your own advice (last line)

Advice for Obama --- Put a Sock In It (sm)
I'd go for a little hope right now myself from Obama. But we don't seem to be getting it from him, do we.

Advice for Obama: Put a Sock In It
You can thank our incoming president for extinguishing the faint glimmers of optimism that had driven markets higher in recent sessions. Did you happen to notice yesterday’s market sell-off?
The media blamed Wednesday’s market setback on gloomy job loss projections and downbeat profit warnings from Time Warner, Alcoa and Intel. I disagree.
I think investors were put off by Obama’s warnings of “trillion-dollar deficits for years to come” -– an unwelcome reality check from our cheerleader-in-chief
I think investors were put off by Obama’s warnings of “trillion-dollar deficits for years to come” -– an unwelcome reality check from our cheerleader-in-chief who is laying the groundwork for massive spending programs and ultimately for an A+ report card for his administration.
For weeks companies around the globe have had to reduce investor expectations. Any management that has not fessed up to just how ghastly business prospects are has simply been putting off the inevitable –- or else out of touch with field operations. (Beware of those long lines of reporting!) That a Time Warner or Alcoa should be seeing a drop in revenues cannot possibly be construed as a surprise. We’re in a recession for heaven’s sake!
The market came to grips with this reality a couple of months ago. Indeed, more recently such announcements have not jarred investor sensibilities a whit. In other words, bad economic news is not news at all.
There is an irrational but tangible feeling in the air that Obama can deliver miracles… It is singularly deflating, then, when Obama talks trash about the economy.
What is different is the ominous message from our president-elect. The country is ready for a change in tone, for a message of –- dare I say it –- hope. Everyone, including those who didn’t vote for the man, is hoping that Mr. Obama can bring peace and prosperity to this country. There is an irrational but tangible feeling in the air that Obama can deliver miracles, that he is uncorrupted, that he is smart and has solutions to the nation’s ills in his pocket.
It is singularly deflating, then, when Obama talks trash about the economy. His purpose, I imagine, is two-fold: First, he needs to get Americans on board with a gigantic spending program that he feels is necessary to put people to work and breathe some life into the economy. Second, if he prepares people to expect truly dreadful times ahead, anything less horrendous will be added to the plus side of the Obama ledger. Just like corporate managements, Mr. Obama can only win by outperforming expectations.
The problem is that the economy and the markets are fragile beyond imagining right now. We don’t need a dose of gloom and doom. We need a Ronald Reagan–type “morning in America” optimism. Consumer sentiment is in the basement-– is that a leading or lagging indicator? We need people who have money to go out and spend it –- they need to feel confident to do so. We need bankers to approve loans, and companies to invest in new plant and equipment.
None of these things will happen if everyone is focused on how dreadful the next few years will be.
My advice, Mr. Obama, is this: stop scaring Americans to death by telling them how bad things will be if your programs are not enacted. Henry Paulson adopted that approach to the point that every time he came on television the market cratered. With a Congress firmly in the hands of your political compatriots, you will get your stimulus package passed. If Americans see enough tough oversight put in place, they will be supportive, especially if the investments appear to generate jobs. Americans are smart –- they know we’re in trouble and that the times call for unusual measures.
But, they need you to lead, and to be positive. Do not spend the enthusiasm of the electorate with scare-tactics. We need, after all, that ridiculous message of hope that got you elected.

It is at the advice of the office of the attorney general...
of the state of Alaska. It has turned into a political hatchet job. Just a scant few months ago, Hollis French (running the "investigative" committee) said that the governor's office was cooperating and no subpoenas were necessary. Then, when she was picked as the VP candidate and Obama folks descended on Alaska...all of a sudden the "investigation" grew (and the pictures of Obama and Hollis French and the other key democrat on this committee yucking it up surfaced). It has come to light that the investigator they hired is a personal friend of the man he is investigating. No bias there, right? Now that the attorney general is involved, politics can be removed from this and it can be brought to a result, whatever that result is.
What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Flew right past that basic right, eh?
Now son of a Democratic congressman being investigated for hacking her personal email. Wondering how THAT will turn out.
Let's talk again if (and when) he takes cons. advice
since McC was in my city
yesterday morning taking credit for rounding up his party to pass the bill that ultimately failed, I assume hw is now willing to take responsibility the bill failing for being an ineffective leader in his own PAR-tay. Lurching about again trying to make political hay. Bill Maher on the View today commenting, very funny. He said he always knew Bush had one more big catastrophe in him. Bill said W will not be satisfied until the white house is on fire and black plumes of smoke are rising behind him as walks away. He asked that ditz Elizabeth if she thought Obama was the anti-Christ and laughed at her wide-eyed "NO!!!"
I don't require the advice of a popeyed pestilential poop such as yourself, thanks..

Name the city and state this happens in? sm
I'm sorry this is foreign to me.
It's already happening in my city
People are getting fed up here with the lack of law enforcement and judicial enforcement that they are taking the law into their own hands. On average of three times a month owners are shooting intruders and attackers in their own home or own their property because they know that law enforcement will either #1 show up way to late to stop the crime or #2 not show up at all! Even if the subject is apprehended the likelihood that they'll only get a slap on the wrist (if even that) by the judicial system is very high.
People are plain fed up where I live---especially with crimes against children and families.
Here's the scenario in my city
I've been keeping up with what happens to people who actually shoot people in their house or on their property in my area. The majority of the shooters have been store clerks who are tired of being victims. However, there have been several home invasions in the last year where the owner has shot the intruder. Just a few weeks ago a man saw another man breaking into his backyard storage building, and he shot the guy from his house. The subject fled and then wrecked his car about a mile from the break in. When all was said and done the owner was not charged eventhough he shot the man eventhough the man never entered his living space.
As far as I know none of the store clerks or home owners have been charged in the last year (at least that is what the media reports).
Eventhough I believe in gun ownership and defending your property and home I think the recent law passed in Florida where you can shoot anyone who is threatening you (anywhere) is a little broad and I think will be used to get criminals off, because all they have to say is I felt threatened so I shot the dude. I think though when somebody comes on your property then you should be able to take any action to defend yourself within reason. Now, this shouldn't be an excuse for shooting your neighbor because they are piling leaves on your property etc. Common sense should rule, and every case should be judged individually on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
I agree with you completely about the child criminal sentencing aspects. Personally, I don't think these monsters should live but at the very least they should be castrated....seems harsh but its the only way to *neuter* the animal that lives inside these monsters.
Chicago is no different that any other big city...sm
New York, Miami, LA and many others.
I live in PA and not in a city.
It used to be called rural agricultural, but now it's suburban housing.
Did ya hear the news that the city
mayors are now looking for handouts? Where will it all end? They don't think the governors should get it because it will be used to pump up their balance sheet, but the city mayors think they should get it because they will use it to get jobs for the people. Are they now going to wave a magic wand and have jobs appear?
Like DH says, "We have nothing anymore. No production jobs at all. They're all overseas. When they left the steel industry go down the tubes, that was the beginning of the end."
well that's fine if you live in the city
but like I said, people who live in the country like myself and our neighbors also have livestock to protect. What are they supposed to do when their guns are taken?
We have a single shotgun in the home. It is unloaded. We have no children. Now if we do have children we will have a locked gun cabinet and they will be taught from an early age that guns are not toys. It's called teaching responsibility. You can't just "do away" with all things dangerous in this society. Rules do not apply to crooks and criminals.
Yes, there needs to be legislation on guns. There is no reason for people to own semi automatics and stuff like that. But I believe we have a right to own shotguns, handguns, and rifles (rifles are used for deer hunting and other big game hunting).
Why would you say I need counseling? Just because I believe we have a right to bear arms? (I think some other folks believed that too...)
Don't know what you are talking about, I am a city girl.
But enjoy!
I never liked Circuit City. I didn't like how it's -
set up, how you sort of go into a 'lockdown' situation once you're in there, and that it's impossible to simply browse without being followed and harrassed by their too-many salespeople.
I bought a CD player there a number of years ago, and never went back. I prefer Fry's for electronics, and Walmart for just about everything.
First of all, a whole city didn't drown.....
the ones who found themselves in a horrible situation ALSO live in a free society, unfortunately, it is a society to them that only knows how to let government do their thinking for them.........
If they had half a brain, they would be screaming at their wonderful crooked little mayor, demanding to know where all those billions went he was given many years ago to fix the levy to prevent just this type of catastrophe, but of course all they know to do is hold the government responsible for everything they don't like about their world. Well, get in line...I could certainly make a long list as well but I still do NOT want the government living my life and doing my thinking for me. If they had been proactive in the first place and had actually taken an interest in their government, they would have been demanding to know why the levy wasn't upgrade years and years ago!!
The war has nothing to do with their ignorance. If I choose to keep myself ignorant, then I will or I can teach my children to read, educate themselves, and think for themselves. That's not what's happening. When someone is completely dependent on the government generation after generation, it becomes obvious they do not want to think for themselves and certainly have NO ideas about a FREE society and what that entails.
I have family down there. They have always tried to get answers as to the use of that money that just disappeared down the tubes, thanks to their crooked mayor and to this day, no one has made him answer to that. The flooding was horrific and there is no question about that. My daughter has taught children in our state who lived through it and saw family members drown before their eyes. No diminishing the trauma on those folks. But you can't start using the war expense as an excuse not to hold their politicians responsible for where the billions of dollars already received went to.
local supermarket
In a local supermarket, they have set up a recruiting station. Well, when shopping and I noticed this, my outrage grew (smile). I walked over to the place, stood in front. They were washing the windows and I stated, **be the first one on your block to have your boy come home in a box**. The girl washing the windows young, so maybe she knew nothing about the FISH song or Vietnam..She said..what did you say?? I repeated the lyric from the FISH song (which you can listen to on the Woodstock album). A guy came out the door, I showed him my middle finger (sorry, it was in the heat of the moment..I dont like death, I dont like lies)..and I walked away..
it is either state and local's
responsibility and he should stay away until things calm down OR he blew it last time and he doesn't that memory to to influence the election. You can't have it both ways.
Well, now. I just read in our local
paper that our wonderful governor (who has almost bankrupted our state) thinks he may be chosen for the Secretary of Transportation or Energy. But have no fear....he promises us he will remain our governor until 2011.
Please, beg the O not to offer the job to him or he will do the same thing to the country as he did to our state. Our state is in worse shape than before he took over. He has not kept 1 promise to us except that he would get casinos in here to help with property taxes and yet, we have yet to see our taxes lowered.
Just saw this on the local news
This is so disgusting I'm speechless.
have you bothered to go to your local PD?

Local politics
(Yeah, you know, ‘’flyover country.’’
As part of the stimulus package, President Obama rescued our recent police academy graduating class. The City had run out of bucks and Mayor Michael (Don’t Question My Manhood*) Coleman threatening to lay these 25 recruits off – one week short of graduation. The stimulus package provided the money to let them graduate and to let them enter their probationary period on the street.
The president even spoke at the graduation ceremony 03/06/2009 and said in part:
So for those who still doubt the wisdom of our recovery plan, I ask them to talk to the teachers who are still able to teach our children because we passed this plan. I ask them to talk to the nurses who are still able to care for our sick, and the firefighters and first responders who will still be able to keep our communities safe. I ask them to come to Ohio and meet the 25 men and women who will soon be protecting the streets of Columbus because we passed this plan. (Applause.) I look at these young men and women, I look into their eyes and I see their badges today and I know we did the right thing.
These jobs and the jobs of so many other police officers and teachers and firefighters all across Ohio will now be saved because of this recovery plan -- a plan that will also create jobs in every corner of this state. Last week, we announced that Ohio would receive $128 million that will put people to work renovating and rebuilding affordable housing. (Applause.) On Tuesday -- on Tuesday I announced that we'd be sending another $935 million to Ohio that will create jobs rebuilding our roads, our bridges, and our highways. (Applause.) And yesterday, Vice President Biden announced $180 million for this state that will go towards expanding mass transit and buying fuel-efficient buses -- money that will be putting people to work, getting people to work. (Applause.)
There was much more self-congratulatory oratory, the link is: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/03/obamas_remarks_at_columbus_pol.html
What’s wrong with this picture? Well, the City is still broke. A 25% income tax ballot proposal was defeated in the May primary. Mayor Coleman now says that unless it is passed when it is put back on the ballot in August, 250 public safety jobs (police and fire) will be eliminated. So much for saving the recruit class of 2009!
Why is it that the first thing a politician (and I include Republicans along with Democrats - Coleman just happens to be a Dem) does when he wants money is threaten vital services? Coleman insists that this is not a power play. But, of course, whenever a politician says he is not lying I have only to watch his lips. If they are moving, I know he is full of it. We all can think of dozens of less-crucial departments or programs that could more easily be cut, but that would not have the emotional appeal that jeopardizing citizens’ lives by cutting police and fire services.
Another issue on the ballot was for the parks system, a bond issue to operate existing parks as well as acquire lands and build several new ones. The issue passed, but should we really be spending money on new parks when THE CITY IS OUT OF MONEY?? No accident that both expenditures were on the same ballot issue. Had we been given the choice of voting on the operating and construction funding separately, the outcome may have been different. Had the issue been defeated, the City could have threatened to close existing parks and put the issue back on the August ballot.
*Don’t Question My Manhood/ great moments in radio
In spring 2005 Columbus made national news (difficult as that is to imagine) over the story of a mentally-challenged girl who was sexually molested by several boys in a public school. What made this a scandal, is that the school and school system, rather than report this to the police, covered it up. When the story broke, Glenn Beck gave it lots of air time, asking why Michael Coleman, as mayor of Columbus, had done nothing about it. Coleman (foolishly) agreed to go on the air to discuss it. (Operating strictly by memory here, I am not sure if a transcript of the full interview can be obtained anywhere, but it really was a side-splitter.) As I recall, Coleman said running the school board was not in his job description....
Beck, 41, said he wanted to talk to Coleman because he assumed the mayor would be as ''outraged as I am.'' Instead, he said, when Coleman got on the air, ''all I heard was blah, blah, blah. He was being a politician. . . . I wanted to talk to him as a dad, not as a politician.''
In the interview, Coleman and Beck continually talked over and past each other. The result was verbal chaos.
As Beck began one question by saying, ''I’m asking you as a man and a father...'' Coleman cut him off and said, ''Don’t question my manhood. Don’t you ever question my manhood.'' Coleman later said he misheard the question.

She also served in city council and mayor...
and on term as a governor gives her one year more governing experience obama has. And she DOES mean change from Washington politics...she is fAR removed from that. She has a reputation for reform, took on the good ol'boys in her own party and won. Those wanting change should be happy to see her.
She has an 80% approval rating in her state. That is unheard of. SHe must be doing something right, because not only Republicans live in alaska.
She is pro life. That is true. But you on this board have told me repeatedly I should not be a one-issue voter. So, lead by example.
