Seems to me if you are dictating

from the zoo, or even from your family room with animal noises coming from your kids' TV, dictating from the 'potty,' dictating from your car on a cell phone with traffic noise, dictating around a mouthful of sandwich, this is not a sign of how stressed and busy you are. It is unprofessional behavior, plain and simple, not quirky and amusing.

When doctors dictate from a hospital, a certain amount of interruption is inevitable.  There are pages and phone calls and emergencies.  (That doesn't mean they get to conduct an entire personal phone conversation on our dime.)  But when they look at dictating as a chore thay can do during a session on the stairmaster, then they need to adjust their priorities.

MTs are always told to be professional.  We are not supposed to look at this as an activity we wedge in between our other domestic and family duties.  Set aside a time and location where we can transcribe in a professional manner, etc.  If we turn in a bunch of reports that look like we were distracted, we sure hear about it.  If we grouse about bad dictators we're are told 'that's part of the deal.'  But when doctors produce bad dictation either intentionally or with complete disregard for our  profession, that's just plain rude and unprofessional.
