The idea of paying off mortgages for people who are wealthy enough to purchase homes is playful, yet helping people who are homeless is Socialism. Double standards abound!

Is this another dreamy, playful post?
People who purchased homes they cannot afford, took out second mortgages, and refinanced their homes to get cash are a big part of the reason why this country is having an economic crisis. Why should they be rewarded for being irresponsible? If the government gives out vouchers, everyone should get them, not just homeowners. You complain about the possibility of Socialism, complain about taxpayer money going to welfare, and then you want the government to pay your mortgage. Apparently, government assistance is fine with you as long as you are the beneficiary.
This very same subject was discussed several days ago. When posters were confronted about the duplicity and selfishness about wanting their mortgages paid, they said they were just dreaming and being playful. Somehow I doubt you are being playful or just dreaming, since you made a point to bring this topic up to the top of the board.

Oh it just keeps getting better and better. First they try to dupe us into believing its our patriotic duty to pay more taxes, and now Obama is trying to say we are selfish if we do not want to pay more taxes. If this is the way he thinks he's going to win????

In my own bitter selfish way
I am one of those evil smokers, and every clapped and cheered as taxes have skyrocketed to at least $2-3 a pack because the sanctimonious ones, not content to ban us and our vile little smoldering sticks from all public places, felt it necessary to save us from ourselves.
When they started this tactic, a lot of smokers pointed out that it was a slipper slope to go down...what would be next? Our Twinkies? Our butter? and we were poo-pooed as being ridiculous in our attempt to defend our vice. But it looks like we weren't too far off, and we're going to continue to just blithely let it happen. They've gotten rid of transfats, they're working on eliminating salt, and slowly but surely every individual choice we could make in our private lives is being whittled away.
my actual reason is more selfish than this...
I want to keep as much of my paycheck as I can to pay for the carpal tunnel release that I will eventually need!

Kennedy has stayed in public service for these many decades as has Kerry, when they could be doing something else. But instead of spending their time in Congress creating new ways to make themselves richer and thinking up new ways to take over the country and bully all opposition into fascist submission, they actually serve their constituents and take a stand against the rampant Republican pilfering and self-serving crony capitalism. It's that old noblesse oblige thing that old money has, you know? - totally and conspicuously absent in the peon Republican gamebook.
