On 9/11

I remember working when I received a phone call from a friend telling me to turn on the TV. My best friend lived in Virginia and often visited the Federal Reserve in the course of her work. I tried repeatedly to call her to see if she was okay but couldn't get through for a very long time due to the phone lines being jammed. I remember the sense of vulnerability, helplessness and hopelessness I felt, wondering if this was just the beginning and wondering if biological and/or chemical warfare was going be used to kill all Americans.
Later, I remember President Bush standing in the rubble at the WTC with that megaphone, promising that the people who knocked down these buildings are going to hear from us, too. At that moment in time, I was so proud he was my President. And when he announced we were going to invade Afghanistan, I, like almost all other Americans, was completely in favor of him doing so and supported him 100%.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims. For their survivors, I hope someday an American President will decide to abide by the 9/11 Commission's findings to keep America safer, that we rise from the rubble and once again become a respected country in the world that walks softly and carries a big stick, and that we regain the credibility and trust that we have lost in the world. We owe at least that much to the survivors of the victims, as well as to all Americans.
