Truly caring about your country needs no apology....
))
I don't know about "you all" but
I don't judge people by what they wear. I don't shop at Neiman or Saks and I'm not overly impressed by those who do. I wouldn't care if she did her shopping at Good Will if I thought she had enough brains to turn this country around. With her foreign policy knowledge being that Russia flies over Alaska and she can see Russia from her front porch on a clear day, The odds are highly in favor of her running this country at some point if McCain is elected.
"You better" ....
:)
The "you's" are the judiciary committee....
never meant to imply anyone else. And I frankly don't care how many are exposed, be they Republican, Democrat or polka-dotted. What I think would happen is that there would be a lot of people exposed, a lot of ties between people that might shock people, and that it will never get to the impeachment process. Ever think that it might be to the advantage of professional politicians tha America stays split? The end result, "we the people" will be more disgusted with politics than ever and with both parties. Of course there will still be the hard-liner tunnel-visioned on both sides who won't believe what comes out anyway if it does not fall in their belief system that the Democratic party (or the Republican party) can do no wrong. Some things never change. Sigh.
And there is that segment of the population, the professional politicians, who who don't really believe anything other than what it takes to advance their power base. As I have said ad nauseam, I only register as a Republican in primary years because I HAVE to in order to vote in them. Otherwise, independent because neither of the major parties interest me in the least and it is getting worse by the day.
And no, I don't necessarily think more republicans would come home to roost than democrats in republican administration. Especially since this republican administration kept over so many from the Clinton administration (so much for trying to bipartisan and reach across the aisle. He kept more people over from the last admin in his first term, I think, than any other Pres has. Most of them clean house when they come in). And not much of that went well (Armitage, Tenet, and how many others?). I think anyone honest can say a lot of the problems we face today were in part brought about by those very folks. They at the very least had both hands in it.
And when I said I wanted to know the truth...I meant that. I said the same thing during the Clinton impeachment...and everyone who watched any of that knows the man is guilty of both perjury and obstruction, no matter what he was lying under oath ABOUT, And THAT congressional montage let him walk. So I don't have faith, personally, in ANY professional politician. It is all about power and keeping it.
However, if all this ranting and raving and posturing does inadvertently prove that both parties were involved perhaps this two-party system we have basically been forced into will finally get shaken up enough to listen to "we the people" because they have not in a long time.
Piglet, I think this is a political exercise and I think those starting it have no interest in justice, just like those who started against Clinton had no interest in justice. If they had, they would have convicted him. It was an exercise, this is an exercise. But it has gotten so hatefully, bittery partisan that maybe some of them may not see that they perhaps would be hammering nails into their own political coffins (save Pelosi and a few others who are trying to keep it from happening). And by they, I mean any and all of the resident politicians in DC.
So I say let them have at it. And when the dust settles, we might actually have enough disgusted rank and file in America that who might get elected at that point? Ron Paul? I am at the point now where the whole thing is just ridiculous.
Pelosi is using her power the only way she knows how...in an effort to KEEP it. That is what they are ALL about. If she cared about the truth or justice and really felt in her heart of hearts that anyone in the administration was guilty of impeachable offenses she SHOULD go forward. The fact that she does not, and even tries to keep her fellow Dems from going forward, tells me all I need to know.
That being said...I have not had faith in much of any congressional montage period since Clinton walked and not only walked, continued as President. And even if WE the people push for it, we are not going to see anything done unless the professional politicians weigh the pro's and con's and if they think it will help insure winning the White House, they will go forward. If they think it will not, or will in any way hinder that goal, they won't. That is, sadly, the bottom line and because of that, we may never know the truth. It is in their best interest to just have the innuendo out there...because seeking the truth sometimes finds it, and that might not be the most opportune thing for getting the White House back. Politics.
And in the end...I am wondering if THAT matters, because we knew the truth about Bill Clinton and it didn't matter..he still was not convicted though they all knew he was guilty. Not of multiple affairs, against which there is no law, but lying under oath before a federal grand jury. There is no question he did it, we all saw him do it on national television. So it is not a question of guilt. The perjury automatically proved the obstruction count, he lied to keep from being caught, thereby obstructing "justice." And he not only walked on perjury and obstruction, he remained President. The Arkansas Bar Association knew he was guilty...said so and disbarred him. I believe that soured me (not because it was Bill Clinton...sheesh...but because the law should be applied equally to ALL and certainly that should include the President of the United States no matter what party he is a member of). And those same people who bemoan Clinton being impeached are thirsting for impeachment of someone else for the SAME crime. I don't understand that. I do not understand the incapability of some to grasp the concept of equality under the law. I thought that was a founding concept of America. Equal application of the law to all, no matter how high up the chain it goes. Guess that is just asking too much of people, to put down partisan politics and just look at the facts, guilty or not guilty. Didn't happen with Clinton. I don't have much faith that it will happen this time either, though the same people who want to excuse Clinton want to fry Cheney and use that to jump start frying Bush. They really don't care if it is true or not. Sigh. Almost laughable.
And I think that the powers that be in Washington just don't want us to know everything that would come out in impeachment hearings. Which are televised, so it would be HARD, HARD, HARD to spin. And the American people, I believe, are in a place where certain kinds of information would have very long-reaching effects. because I think there are more people toward the middle of the spectrum that the hard right or hard left.
So, I still say bring it on, have the hearings if they think they have the goods, and let it all come out. If the evidence points to guilt of Cheney, them impeach him, and if it is proven he is guilty, then remove him from office. And if others are in the process found to have committed crimes, then prosecute them and throw them in the cell next to Libby. Be they Dem, Repub, or polka-dotted. Let's try to get it right this time. Put the criminals in jail, not back in the White House. We can't go back and put Clinton in jail where he belongs, but we can get it right this time (yeah right, like that will happen, but one can hope).
If I sound disgusted, I am. As disgusted as kam but in a totally different way.
"you're" oops.
i hate spelling errors! :)
It should be "you're welcome" not "your welcome"

"You're answer"
If you don't want discussion and/or argument, don't post. Simple as that. If I know something related to someone's post, I'm gonna post a reply.
And you never argue on this forum, do you?
I am not one of what you call "you people."
I didn't state any number or any guesstimate of how many people attended tea parties. I can speak for my town, which is a small town, and there were about 300 people at our court house yesterday.
Final counts aren't in from some of the larger cities, but even that won't be a fair representation of the numbers because of small towns like mine that might not be added in the mix - those numbers do add up.
All I was wondering from you is why you chose to quote a Canadian article - you answered that it was because it would be an unbiased source. However, it would be a biased source because they would really have no first-hand knowledge of how many parties there were, where they were, how many people attened, etc.
Personally, I attended not because I'm a conservative or republican or anything like that. And it wasn't a front for some big corporation so the rich could keep their taxes low (and I'm far from being rich!) I attended because I don't think Congress is doing a very good job spending my money. When people like Chuck Schumer stand up there and say things like the American people don't care about the pork, that's when I get upset. And for them to get all up in arms about the AIG bonuses, only to find out it was all right there in black and white in the stimulus package, but none of them even bothered to read it, that's when I get upset! If you and I did something like that in our jobs, we'd be fired on the spot!
This sort of thing should have happened years ago because the spending in DC has been out of control, even when the republicans were in charge (that's when I started voting democrat for a while.)It just makes my blood boil to hear the republicans in DC spout off about all the spending the democrats are doing - why weren't they doing anything about it 8 or 10 years ago? But it makes me madder still to hear them all (republicans and democrats) DEFEND spending all this money now and then leaving our children to have to pay for it later.
I just don't think it's right for the government to think that it can live by one set of rules while the rest of us have to live by another.
Okay, enough of a book, just needed to get that off my chest.

What part of "you don't have a choice" don't you understand
"Obama will call on citzens of all ages to serve America" My God!!!! Don't you hear this. Don't you question this. Don't you know what the germans when through with Hitler????
Forced is forced. You can put any fancy name on it you want. It is still the same as military service. Once in you don't have a choice of what you do. I was in the military, I lived with a german couple who went through the holocaust and heard many stories. I KNOW the military. What starts out as civil service turns into military service. Heck call it the country club service if it makes you feel more important than the military. The truth is this is forced and you don't have a choice. This is how the Hitler youth started (by feeling more important than those who weren't in the Hitler youth). They then went on to be the SS and finally the Gestapo. Sure the Hitler youth felt very "patriotic" and wanted to serve the Fuhrer. They were made to feel privilaged and would receive things (i.e. tuition to college, etc). It later turned out to be a much different story and unfortunately they had no choice. You cannot just leave whenever you want to. I don't want to see my nieces and nephews have to go through that. I blame all who voted for the O for that.
P.S. - NOT voluntary! What part are you not understanding. Mandatory and forced do not mean you have a choice. Just wait til the uniforms come. It's going to be slow but when it happens maybe you'll remember what I said. But then again the parents of the Hitler youth's wanted their children to enter the Hitler youth so they too would feel privaleged and patriotic. I just can't believe people are buying into it without a second question. That is what is so "disgusting" about that!!!!
who are "you guys". I'm a democrat and ashamed of

Olbermann right on...
Finally, finally people are beginning to discuss this openly. On Hardball Chris is talking about this with a lot of people (including our first Homeland Security guru) who had some knock-down drag-out (verbal) disagreements with Cheney over terror alerts. Ridge would say you want me to raise the level for THAT???? and of course Cheney wanted him to, any time anything turned sour for the GOP. Another reason that Bush et al wanted to make the British investigation public right now is that they want to get started on Iran before Bush is out of office so they had to speed those detail-oriented Brits along, time's a flyin', got another war to start. God help us all.
Who are "you guys">>>>I couldn't care less about Ewards

Olbermann gets a bull's eye on this one...sm
Now, if he would just take things a few steps further.
Olbermann (and sometimes Maddow)...
are equal-opportunity offenders. Olbermann has begun to criticize Obama regarding things Olbermann doesn't agree with. He doesn't just blindly follow and agree with everything because Obama is a Democrat.
"She" made it easy for "you" to lose control of yourself? sm
and end up writing that trash you wrote?
Only you are responsible for how low you sink. Anyone can see that.
Olbermann is off the chain crazy...LOL...nm
Two Fantastic Olbermann videos.
(I hope this post doesn't get deleted. I'm copying and saving this, just in case, and then if it's deleted again, maybe I can just email the links to those who might be interested in seeing these excellent clips.)
#1: Reinventing the Geneva Conventions (with Jonathan Turley regarding Bush wanting to cover his butt for past illegal deeds):

#2: It's Unacceptable to Think (Bush's response to Colin Powell's thoughts)

Olbermann is an idiot pundit.
He has not now, nor has he ever been a newsperson. He needs to go back to interviewing sweaty football players. He's a dunce.
Olbermann is a commentator...not a journalist...
and he was removed from his "journalism" spot on MSNBC to a strict commentator position because of his obvious bias toward Obama and playing fast and loose with the truth. He doesn't know if it is true or not, he just repeated rumor. It is a fact that she has not belonged to the assembly of God church since 2002. Her present pastor confirmed that, as did her former pastor. No one disputes that...except maybe Olbermann, but the only truth he recognizes is something that supports Obama.
Right, Olbermann and "tingle up my leg" Matthews.

Yep....it's Olbermann....so if you don't like him, no need to go any farther in message...

Olbermann, Maddow, and Limbaugh
Can't stand any of them. Two are on the left, one on the right, and they are all cut out of the same cloth, in my opinion. Blustering, self-righteous, and intolerant. Maddow is a little more subtle, but very full of herself and her narrow opinions. I agree more with what Rush says, but can't stand to look at him or listen to him. What a big, self-important windbag.
Keith Olbermann responds to Rumsfeld
One of Keith's best moments, IMO.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/
Olbermann is a graduate of Cornell University...
and you are a graduate of what?
It was an abomination. Even Keith Olbermann condemned it.
there are a couple of differences. The Palin effigy was put there by the owner of a private residence who used his own possessions. What could they have charged him with? He cant vandalize his own home. The Obama effigy was was hung on a state university college campus using state property f an educational institution who is responsible for the safety of all of its students....that would be all males, female, blacks, whites and foreign nationals. They are in a position to make SOME sort or statement that condemns the action and assured student and parents that measures will be taken to prevent a fraternity prank for "gettng out of hand" again. Burglary and vandalism charges see reasonable, since that it what they did. And by the way, another major difference. Can't recall too many chapters in American history when women were hung by racist lynch mobs...black, on the other hand...well, that's another story. It was not even a decade back here in East Texas where a black man was kidnapped, tied to the back of a truck with a Confederate flag on the back of it, and dragged to his death, dismembered and beheaded. They tried the "boys willbe boy's" defense. It didn't work. The two (of the 3) perpetrators who could be proven to be racists were sentenced to death because it was a hate crime. The third one scraped by with life in prison because his racism could not be proven.
Keith Olbermann is a complete fruitcake!
He sits and states that Texas gets 88% back of every dollar they send to the federal government but another states (midwest) only gets 40+%. Is he really that brainwashed? Does he not even think for a moment that Texas has to pay for all the illegals in their state and bear the burden of all the freebies these freeloaders gets? Healthcare, food, clothing, housing, and the lists go on and on to the tune of millions and millions. You better believe they need to get EVERY penny back... as far as I am concerned, 88% should be 100%.... BTW we all should be keeping our 100% earnings. Constitution states individual citizens are NOT to pay taxes to federal government, ONLY corporations.
Olbermann would kiss the backside of Hitler and bow at his feet if he were still alive. This man is absolutely sickening!
Olbermann is disgraceful, but I'd be interested in knowing...
...where the Constitution prohibits the federal taxation of citizens, if you would please quote me the article and section.
Olbermann? -the mentally deranged commentator?
nm
No. I love the country side in Alabama...I'm a country girl...nm
Hmmm.....Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann....
removed from anchor duties for election coverage and relegated to commentator only. Talk about backlash.

Yup - a message froma Keith Olbermann stooge
Bushwacked is a term that nutcase Keith Olbermann uses.
So what's your point.
Don't owe anyone an apology
...BTW nobody has apologized for calling me a liar....not that I expected it....grow some skin.
No apology necessary...nm
Apology...sm
I wouldnt suggest anyone hold their breath waiting on any apology from Bush. Bush really does believe that it is *unacceptable to think* anything differently than what he is able to articulate.
He does not get it. It is because we do not want to be compared to islamofascist that we (dems and reps alike) *think* America should follow Geneva Conventions and not redefine them because it is only right. If we redefine, others will to. You can take that to the bank and cash it.
Will the terrorist follow the GC anyway - probably not - but we will be in a better position to deal with them if we have legally handled our POWs. I guess, it is *unacceptable to think* that Bush will get it.
I own you a apology for....
When I engage in political discussions, I try my best to keep things in the 3rd person as much as possible, especially since I try to promote mutual respect and tolerance. I find that even in the most oppositional debates, it helps keeps things more civil. I do not always succeed, and at times have been known to abadon that principal, especially when facing someone bent on personal attack or who is presenting ill-informed arguments. I have followed some of your other posts and know that you certainly do not fit that category. On close review, I notice I got a bit sloppy with the 3rd person thing. I apologize if I came across as too presumptive, particularly since I cannot assume anything about your (or you family) in terms of being conservative or bigoted.
The 59 flea market is alive and well, although it is a bit of an anachronism by now. Don’t know about the crime, except to say that there is usually a patrol car within sight cruising that vicinity on the weekends. I used to go there all the time back in the day, but it is too hot and I am too old for that now. That’s why I frequent those modern day flea markets along Harwin which can be found in air-conditioned buildings.
Bellaire was relatively middle class when we moved there. It is its own city, so they have actually gone in the opposite direction and have gentrified the joint. over the last 10 years, give or take. Unfortunately, our post-war bungalows are rapidly disappearing and those obnoxious, abrasive McMansions are popping up everywhere. I suppose that’s progress to some, sad for me. We moved there after my parents divorced from Highland Park in Dallas, which is an elite place to be sure. The journey from “privileged” status to champion of the underdog makes for some interesting conversation…perhaps another day.
We are also bound to revisit the legal vs illegal immigration thing…it is not likely to go away anytime soon. I am more intrigued by your issues post above and hope to respond to it in a day or so, Dem turned independent, are you? Even though I stay pretty much left of center, and have been more radicalized further in that direction after 8 years of Bush, I hear ya. My issues with the party are not based so much on the candidate but rather lay with the party itself and the need to broaden our two-part system. Whether or not I like Obama (and I do), I would still be voting along party lines in spite of that, because I see McCain as an instant replay in many respects, particularly where the war is concerned. The "economy is not my strong suit" confession makes me rea nevous. I do respect your decision to pull out, though.
I listen to CNN and Fox, mostly with my teeth clenched. I think Lou Dobbs' obsession with the immigration is a bit inflammatory and counterproductive (no suprise there) in terms of reaching a viable bipartisan consensus, but I will say this much for him. For the most part, he presents himself in a respectable and respectful manner. He raises some interesting points that have made me question some of my more radical views on other issues. I do think he is the type of person that could engage and promote bipartisan cooperation, so in that respect, when I watch his show, my jaw is more relaxed! Anyway, I think that a write-in vote is a great way to resolve any disenchantment you may have for the other 2 candidates.
My apology then (nm)

I owe an apology to no one...
and I am not the one obsessed with ice cream on this board. I prefer to keep my svelte figure rather than pigging out on ice cream and becoming rotund.
An apology for what?
The UN didn't do anything - or did I miss something?
William Ayres, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann.....

Where did you go? No apology for Democrat?
You're as likely to get an apology from Ann (sm)
as we're likely to get an apology from PK and the other trolls. Let it go. The thread has been hijacked, so we'll slip away and let them have their temper tantrums. When they find out no one is listening they'll crawl back under their bridge and/or troll their other haunts. The other solution is that is adults here could just ignore them and continue on with our conversation. It's your call

Thank you.

One great thing about this country is our freedom of speech. A good thing for me too as in another country I might be beheaded or something as I'm pretty outspoken about things I believe in strongly. Also, anyone has the right to agree or disagree with either of us and that is partly what makes this country great, I think.
I would love to hear of your life's journey. I came from near poverty....my dad was a farmer, both parents uneducated....their goal was to make a better life for their children through education. I made it all the way to upper middle class which is good enough for me. I traveled many a rocky road though during my life.
I used to love going to the 59 flea market but like you, I now prefer my comfort over flea marketing outdoors. One thing I can say is since I left Houston in 1990, it sure has changed. My husband, a Chicago native, and I were visiting the kids once and we were going to drive back to my daughter's house in Tomball to spend the night from my son's house in Magnolia. Well, not being so familiar with the Magnolia/Tomball area from living there....except for the famous chicken fried steak place in Tomball...forget the name right now, we missed a turn. I'm about half night blind and after we drove around for quite awhile looking for something I recognized, finally saw the street sign for Gesner so I knew exactly where I was, right? Wrong. Didn't realize they'd opened up Gesner half way to Conroe. LOL We finally got to my daughter's house after a couple of hours, she and my son were about to send out a search party. We didn't have a cell then.
Have a good day and I do enjoy your posts.
Well, TT...please accept my apology...
I spoke out of turn. While I do have personal knowledge of Mexican immigrants who became citizens, I don't know anyone in the DAR personally. I should not have made that comment. Not like me, but as I stated, trotter pushes my buttons. At any rate...shame on me.
And as to being a daughter of the confedracy, I have no problems there either. I have a friend who is a descendant of Robert E. Lee. He was a fascinating man. His decision to secede took a horrible toll on him. He wanted to preserve the Union as much as Lincoln did. Both great men with great vision.
So, TT, accept my apology for the "tea" comment. Fell prey to stereotypical comment, was wrong of me to do. I would love to learn more about the DAR, so I am going to practice what I preach, and start reading.
You go girl! :)
Okay...apology inside.
Sorry for involving everyone in what turned into a personal confrontation. In stepping back as some of you have suggested, I examined my feelings and I do feel badly. I took it too personally and I should not have, though when someone says "you this" and "you that" it is hard not to take it personally. It is hard not to take it personally when someone calls you a bigot, ignorant...and many other not-so-nice names. I got my back up...but that is a human reaction in my opinion. I jus should have shut it down sooner, I agree.
In GW's defense, I think she is very frustrated with the immigration situation because of incidents close to her, understandable, and I became the personification of all she hates about Republicans, conservatives etc., in effect, the object of venting. Again, I should not have taken it so personally and tried to understand more where that hatred was coming from.
So, I apologize to GW, I apologize to all of you, that I let it get out of hand. Hard as it may be for some of you to believe, I am not a confrontational person. Every one of us, at some point, gets all we can stand and feel like we have to stand up. I just should not have kept it going so long. We were beating a dead horse and we should have stopped...both of us.
So...sorry, GW. I know we do not agree on many things and never will. However, I am as responsible as you for it going on for so long. And for that I apologize, to you and to others on the board.
And I appreciate the wise moderator who just let it play out. Cooling myself off. :)
