Oh, but I can and I will.

The whole of the conservative movement for the last 50 years has been in effect to turn back FDR's New Deal and the idea of progressive taxation which is what closed the gap between the poor and the rich.  In the early 1900s there was no middle class.  With the formation of unions and progressive taxation the American people lived a life that was never afforded to them before and probably unlike we will ever have again.

This form of government angered a great deal of more affluent conservatives who formed the first conservative "think tanks" and once joined with the neoconservatives, the conservatives then manipulated voting by playing on American fears starting in the 1960s and 1970s.  This movement manipulation was started by Richard Nixon and continues on today with the Bush administration.  That movement manipulation was done with plying fear and that is still going on today.  The conservative movement spawned out of the think tanks supported by corporate America, the first career politician.

There is no such thing as the "run away" social programs.  Those social programs worked as intended.  It was the economy of the 1970s and 1980s which inflated the social programs.  Not that they were mismanaged, but in that they were needed and being utilized because of the recession. 

The democrats did not keep the black population from voting.  Social stigma and white fear did that.  The "southern democrats" of that time were for more conservative that any conservative today. 

By and large, our problems in government today is based on the conservative manipulation of that government to their own agenda.  Media manipulation, lobbying were begun by the conservative party.   

My earlier statement was not made in favor of democrats or republicans, it was a statement in favor of liberalism over conservatism. 

For the past eight years of the Bush administration our government has failed us, because movement conservatism cannot govern.  This administration values only political loyalty and has spawned more corruption than our government has seen in 100 years because it has dedicated itself to its policies and not American interests.  This was not an accident.  This was planned by the movement conservatives since the 1950s.

So, yes, I do put it at the conservatives feet.
