Where do you think we get our oil from, much less a host of other goods?  The US is not self sufficient, and yes, we do need allys.  We can't just sit in a box and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist.

You're right about one thing.  There was no democratic or republican party back then.  We also burned witches, invested in slave trade, and a whole host of things that today are considered barbarious.  That's called evolution of a society, something that seems to have completely escaped the imaginations of what is now called the republican party.

As far as religious persecution goes.....well that's just a load of crap.  If you look at how people have actually behaved since being here, you will realize they didn't come here because they just wanted people to be free to worship as they wished.  They came here to practice their own brand of religious persecution. I guess that witch burning thing was how we showed our disdain for religious persecution.  Give me a break.

As for thinking for myself, I have no problem with that.  I do that all the time, as do most democrats, as opposed to the predictable, robotic party of NO.
