I don't know how anyone COULDN'T laugh at that, and I don't think it was in poor taste to do so.  If anything, it probably helped a great deal and (just guessing here) maybe even made you feel closer to your dad at that particular moment, especially if you think he had a hand in successfully "punking" you all!
