Living by the letter of our own laws (while putting ourselves out there as beacons of democracy and mentors to be emulated), innocent until proven guilty, burden of proof on the prosecution, due process that involves the simplest concept of bringing charges and the right to be heard on those charges, the right to counsel and to be represented, protection against indefinite detention and torture, humane conditions while imprisoned, habeas corupus, etcetera.
Complications to some, imperatives to others. It will be a proud day for all Americans when we once again walk the walk, not just talk the talk. After all, these are OUR laws and the detainees are OUR prisoners.
