You are being asked to respect the SEPARATION between the politics board and the faith board. If all you have to offer is religious in nature, your post does not belong here.
This breaking news just in....religion and politics are only as "intricately intertwined" as the secular among us allow it to be. There seems to be a consensus in America as there is in other western nations that the two do not mix well and certainly are not conducive to democratic process. I am neither atheist, agnostic or Christian, but I do consider myself to be a spiritual person of Universalist faith. I count myself among the secular citizens who will fight tooth and nail to keep religion out of politics and out of the government. There is a place for it in our society and in our lives...churches, synagogues, mosques, temples our homes and in our psyches. Why is that not enough for the theocrats? This constant push to pervade is a REAL LIVE BUMMER. Cease and desist, won't you?

yes, I asked you...but I asked you a specific question...
about the peace movement. I asked why you did not take your ideals to the real enemies of peace...and your answer was that you leave them to God but will instead preach to us not to fight them, even when they bring the fight to us. So be it.
We will agree to disagree.
I did not personally call you a whiner. As to who sent the military...I will say one thing. When you join the military, you take an oath. That oath has been posted here. You are under no illusions. You know that you may be called to war. It is an all voluntary army over there now. There is no draft. No one is over there because they were forced to go.
As to the people sending having never been...what has that got to do with anything? It was not just George Bush and Dick Cheney, Lurker. It was Congress. Many in Congress do have relatives, even sons and daughters, in Iraq. Have you read the resolution? It is very clear. They knew exactly what they were signing and exactly what it meant. I do not buy the lied to hooey. The Senate and House intelligence committees got the same briefings, or at least enough briefings to vote for the resolution. If they did not (in their own words) use due diligence before signing off on that resolution, whose fault is that? Certainly not Dick Cheney's or George Bush's.
Where were all these people when Clinton was calling for regime change? Because he was a Democrat they will follow him to war? You will see why I do not buy into their rhetoric.
And while I understand your big picture, as I have said over and over and you have never addressed, that will work only if the others in the big picture wish it to work. And if you honestly feel that God wishes that you lay down and let this country be overrun by terrorists, then so be it. I am not of the same mind.
The big difference is that I believe, as did Americans at the time of the Revolution, and that Americans did at the time of the Civil War...and that even some Americans did at the time of Viet Nam...some things are worth dying for. Most of our volunteer military feels the same.
When that is no longer the case, if you are successful in robbing that sense of patriotism from the generations to come without changing the minds of the enemies, where they feel that nothing is worth dying for...in my mind that will only bring death quicker, not keep it at bay, and the loss of the greatest nation on the face of this earth.
So, we agree to disagree.
God bless.
I have been following the conversation. sm
I think Marylandgal is extremely defensive in her posting. I also KNOW she does not speak for all Jews. Having said that, it's really easy to weasel out of an argument by invoking the specter or something horrible...Hitler usually works really well, or the KKK. Then you are an anti-Semite or a racist. It's a shameful way to argue but SOME liberals do it a lot.
This conversation is going nowhere.
And I am sure that the rabbis who attended were not the only ones who agree with them. As with any other exploratory meeting, not everyone attends. I am happy that THESE rabbis and Ben Stein as well choose life and interpret their religious teachings to choose life. It's unfortunate that you don't feel the same.
Won't go there? Isn't the conversation about...
impeaching George Bush? I said impeach him already. If what Kucinich has is dam*ing and he can prove any of it, why don't they just impeach? What part of that don't you understand?? What is it you want me to say and why is my comfort zone so all consuming to you? LOL.
It was on the old board, it was a conversation you had with Nan. SM
and it was about Affirmative Action. I remember it well because it was very long and civil exchange between the two of you back when I thought you could be reasoned with. Nan said something about you have a different perspective and something like she could not challenge you from an African American point of view, I don't remember all the details, because you were African American at which point you said something like, what makes you think I am African American and she said, she thought you had said you were and you said I didn't say that because I am not. Now this is not word for word but it is the gist of it. Remember now?
But the conversation is about kids who are having
things done without the parents' knowledge.
I thought you were done with the conversation? sm
But when you got some back up you wanted to throw in a little more sarcasm? Well I am behind on my work now because I spent to much time talking to you. I can't change your mind, so I am just going to leave you alone.
This conversation reminds me of...(sm)
an event that took place during the Iraq war (not sure of the date, but I'm sure some of you will remember it). There was an Iraqi child who was (as well as many others) caugt in a bombing raid. It was all over the news about how the US military had given him provisional care and transported him from place to place, trying to get him to a place where he could be treated appropriately. Unfortunately (like many other Iraqi civilians) he eventually died. This in itself was not that remarkable, especially considering at the time the US was lobbing bombs into Iraq with the precision of a pumpkin-chunkin contest. What was remarkable, however, was when the doctor who was caring for the child came out and told the news of his death to the world. There were several questions entertained by the doctor from reporters, but the one that really struck home for me was one from a US reporter. The question was, do you think the boy understood what we are trying to do here? The boy that died was all of about 4 or 5 years old.
Not long after, the US decided to not show casualties in the news. The government unfortunately was right in assuming the out of sight, out of mind thing would work. It's amazing just how naive Americans can be.
This is a perfect example of what you would call American pride, honor, etc. Nevermind the people who die, just make sure we look good doing it. Again, I am not negating the value of the American soldiers here, they are simply doing what they've been told to do.
When you talk about soldiers helping the Iraqi people, exactly how are they helping them? Are they bringing them food and medicine because we have destroyed their infrastructure? Are they helping them find a place to stay because their house played catch with a US missle? Or are we just taking care of their kids because we took mommy and daddy to a torture camp? Believe me, we are doing much more harm than help. Have you noticed that Iraqi civilian casualties far outnumber the casualties of American soldiers? Where's the help for that?
And yes, I did have someone serving in Iraq.

that Hitler founded his total belief system on the three pillars I posted here, the first being Jews and Communism. I don't know how much more clear I can be frankly! Where in the world did I EVER say he was sane. I am talking about HISTORY. I am not quite sure what you are talking about!
Did you see the video of the conversation with the Fox reporter?

Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.?
Buchanan to Obama
By Patrick J. Buchanan
Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.?
Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.
This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:
First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.
Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ླྀs on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.
Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants.
Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.
We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude??
Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks.
Let him go to Altoona and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids.?
Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and inca rceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?
Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?
As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?
Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?
We have all heard adnauseam from the Rev. AL about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But abo UT the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.
Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.
topics to avoid during polite conversation.
We do have separation of church and state.
The conversation took place during the primary season
If they had a casual conversation on these issues before any official selections were even possible, they would have been purely speculative, dontcha think? During the heat of the primary compaign, HC would have been the last person he would have had in mind for either position. Sounds like a fairly innocent chat between friends to me.

Yea, right....transparency my butt!!
WH refuses to hand over the visitor list..... after all, didn't he say he was going to be MORE transparent than other administrations? Bull!! That man told so many lies on his campaign trail....
Considering I pay for that big 'ol house he lives in, and he preached transparency, then why not hand over the visitor list. Actually, the U.S. citizens are supposed to have it given to us without asking. And for those of you who will once again find excuses for this man.... NO, he does not have a reason not to, except as usual he has been seeing people he shouldn't be around and people that no doubt would expose him for what he is...
Yup. The Old Dude got his butt kicked.
maybe he was looking around for someone to rescue him.
The eye-rolling was a little much, as well. Somehow I can't see that affect going over real well when talking to heads of state worldwide.

Don't mean to butt in but the above message you posted is
exactly what IMHO is talking about. I've seen plenty of your nasty messages and after this one (which is one of your calmest messages), I haven't opened or read your messages for over a week or so.
Name-calling and nastiness is not allowed on this board. If you can't adhere to the rules, you need to leave or at least at mature.
JMHO
I consider him a traitor and just out to save his own butt
He figures he can win on the Dem ticket because PA has turned Dem. Well, I have news for him.....I doubt it. He only won by a couple votes in the last election because of Pat Toomey running against him. He will definitely lose this election.
I always split my ticket and I usually voted for him, but no more. I don't care what party anyone is affiliated with; but, to me, he is a traitor and that's someone else who is not needed in the Senate.
To those who vote straight party, open your eyes. They are only out for themselves (but is that really news to anyone?)
As posters have said before, we have to educate the people who don't watch/investigate/read up on the candidates running to make sure we vote the best candidates for the job...those who value the constitution, listen to their constituents (which is hard), and vote for the good of the country. Get rid of the a-holes who are in there. We really need to clean house this coming election.,
The article posted is not the complete conversation. Ever hear of Freakanomics? sm
That has a lot to do with the conversation. As usual, the MSM left out significant parts of what was said. No surprise there.
Go ahead. Let's bring Reverend Wright back into the conversation...
and Jesse Jacksin (hymietown) and Louis Farrakhan...yeah, let's bring that back into the conversation. If Barack can claim he went to that church for 20 years but doesn't share the theology...so can she, right?
If you are going to fry her now, let's go back to Reverend Wright. You betcha!!
Since you're having this conversation with yourself, including my side of it, pray continue.

WOW. I've even tried kicking myself in the butt for posting it...sm
It adds nothing to the debate, really, except sidetracking the issue at hand.
I hate to butt in but one story seen on the news and
really scared me was when Obama was in Germany and a German citizen stated, "He's the new Messiah." This was on the evening news when he was on his around the world blitz. He really had no reason to do all that traveling as if he was already the President. What was he trying to prove??? That he can charm the world? It won't work if he becomes President.
'Nuff said.
Your stick-up-your-butt rigidity and intolerance -
What goes around, comes around, and people who think with their retentive anuses instead of their minds, usually get what's coming to them in the end. So if that's the thinking and the politics you align with, then I'm just so very happy for you.
You've been spouting off for weeks with reams and reams of copied and linked material that you think was written by God himself. You criticise every post that suggests that the poster is of another party, or even that they are open to ideas other than YOURS.
And the REALLY sad thing is, you actually think that what you write actually MATTERS, and that people listen to what you say and think, and that they actually care. Well know what? Most people on here don't give a flying F_ _ K what you think.

I am enjoying this very much and find it oh so entertaining! Mob mentality is the only fitting way to describe these people. I just haven't figured out if it's just mental defectiveness, self-loathing or just plain needing a good 'ole roll in the sheets!!
Wow, usually people that work in the same industry find a common kinship and are very supportive of each other. Sadly, I don't feel any kinship with a lot of these people. In fact, I go out of my way to avoid people like this because their joy is killing other people's joy and that's a "disease" I just don't want to catch! Besides, I have a feeling that all the negative posts on this thread are all done by the same person. It must be awkward to be so socially inept.
