And everybody did newspaper drives and
steel drives. Each month, a tractor trailer would be parked at a certain spot in town and everyone would save their newspapers and hand them over to this tractor trailer. Same with old tires. They even gave their pots and pans for the aluminum and steel drive. Anything that could be melted down and remade into something to help the war effort.
I saw interviews of
black people saying how wonderful it was that we now have a black president. I saw pre-election clips of black people saying it was time we elected a black president - one would assume that's how they voted. I overheard conversations in public to the same effect. I saw folks begging royal favors (a house, a higher hourly wage) of Obama at a town meeting. I saw a woman-on-the-street interview of an African American woman saying Obama was going to pay her mortgage and fuel her car 'If I help him, he'll help me.' Is it politically incorrect to comment on these facts?
The Anchorage Newspaper just published
a scathing article on how embarassed they were by Sarah Palin's (I ask incredibly stupid or arrogant?) comments on her being cleared of the the Troopergate charges!! What a megalomaniac that woman is . . . very scary!!
Interesting newspaper article....
Excerpts from article Scripps Howard News. Can't link to it, could not find it on line.
It's a new president, a new era, but maybe we can salvage something from the Bush-bashing days gone by, namely some of the political catchphrases that have updated meanings in our altered circumstances. You begin to see their utility when you look at how critics worried (including most all Democrats and of course, our new president...my words, not article words) that President Bush was *sacrificing our liberty for security,* and then ask whether President Obama and the Democrats aren't aiming to sacrifice liberty (and free speech I might add) for different kinds of security. They are. The most obvious example is the eagerness to sacrifice free speech ont eh radio by reimposing the so-called Fairness Doctrine (fair...yeah right...Democrat version of fair...you are entitled to free speech ONLY if we like what you say, you always agree with us and never say negative things about us..lol). Then there's the effort for enhanced electoral security. Obama and the Democrats are in synch with a scheme to sacrifice the liberty of workers to use secret ballots in elections whether to have a union. All kinds of commercial liberties might be denied as Obama surveys his options on keeping the market in tow, revising energy policies and combating greenhouse gases. There's been talk of nationalizing banks. And to give us security from dependence on foreign oil, Obama plans to deprive the auto industry of building the kind of cars consumers want. It's a move that could do severe hurt to an alread damaged industry to no sure-fire avail.
Another catchphrase employed against Bush was that he had no *exit strategy* to get us out of the war in Iraq. A genuine fear is that Obama administration and the Federal Reserve have no *exit strategy* to get us out of a spending and money-printing spree that could help stick us with a 1.7 trillion deficit in 2009, leading to a collapsed dollar, cause a doubling of taxes and, down the road, lead to runaway inflation and even worse, interminable economic crisis and devastating decline as a prosperous world power. Especially considering that we are faced with trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities for Medicare and Social Security and that the bill starts coming due in relatively few years. It's hard to see how we are going extract ourselves from the consequences of this. We need a plan, or at the very least, an explanation of how we avoid disaster. I have not heard any (me either!!).
Finally, it was repeatedly said of Bush that he made up the well-founded if finally incorrect stories about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction and thereby *lied us into a war.* Now there are people who are contending that Obama is using the moment's high anxiety to "lie us into socialism" (BINGO!). It's said, for example, the stimulus package will do more to create a welfare state than to arouse the economy (so far the billions thrown at it have done little), and when you put this together with regulatory overkill now being plotted, we'll have a centralized, government-controlled economic system that routinely robs from Peter to pay Paul. The recently passed House bill is loaded with evidence for this thesis...billions upon billions of wealth-transferring programs that address this crisis about as much as a sneeze.
No one wants, or should want, to subject Obama to what Bush faced, criticism that was sometimes unfair to the point of calumny. But there is too much at risk for us to all hold hands and sing kumbaya. We need to vigorously debate, and some of the phrases used ad infinitum in the Bush years can help us put some very real issues into sharper focus.
All that being said in the article....why are Democrats not asking Obama the tough questions like they asked Bush? Why are the people on this board not asking Obama the tough questions? Oh...wait....what AM I thinking??? The great O has spoken...and that's all they need.
Mr.TS: Why don't you start publishing your own newspaper
instead of wasting your intellect and expertise on us, trying to manipulate us, even brainwashing us with your 'feigned innocence', as another poster already stated.
All my replies to you are facetious, it amazes me that you even have to 'ponder' about that. I could have written 'think', but 'ponder' is more affected, similar to your choice of words.
I find the choice of your vocabulary 'unbearably affected.'
Also, I quote.....'but then I decided that you actually don't know.'
Who do you think you are to 'decide' this? Such arrogance!
We are posting on the 'politics' board.
I am 100% convinced that you have nothing to do with MTing. I am definitely convinced that you are retired.
Wonder when JM or SP interviews on MSNBC
Won't hold my breath on that one. They'll be ll tied up with emergency response damage control and leadership image management.
Buried on pg 6 of our newspaper is this small headline

BUT, you're not an editor of substantial newspaper.
The cartoonist and the Editor are not teenagers, nor naive. They knew full well the insinuation of monkeys, primates, and the interpretation it would have on a nation that went through a very troubled period.
Same here. Watching these people in interviews is

even brittany stopped giving interviews

Jon Stewart interviews Elizabeth Warren...

It's a two-part video, and I believe it's worth watching, though, unfortunately, some people will probably criticize it without even bothering to watch it in its entirety).

Newspaper Marks 1000 Days of Iraq War with Key Stats
Newspaper Marks 1000 Days of Iraq War with Key Stats
By E&P Staff
Published: December 13, 2005 10:30 AM ET
NEW YORK To mark what it called the 1000 Days of the Iraq war, the London daily The Independent offered extensive coverage today, featuring a by-the-numbers approach.
Here are some of their calculations:
$204.4 billion: The cost to the U.S of the war so far.
2,339: Allied troops killed
15,955: US troops wounded in action
98: U.K troops killed
30,000 : Estimated Iraqi civilian deaths
0: Number of WMDs found
66: Journalists killed in Iraq.
63: Journalists killed during Vietnam war
8: per cent of Iraqi children suffering acute malnutrition
53,470: Iraqi insurgents killed
67: per cent Iraqis who feel less secure because of occupation
$343: Average monthly salary for an Iraqi soldier. Average monthly salary for an American soldier in Iraq: $4,160.75
5: foreign civilians kidnapped per month
47: per cent Iraqis who never have enough electricity
20: casualties per month from unexploded mines
25-40: per cent Estimated unemployment rate, Nov 2005
251: Foreigners kidnapped
70: per cent of Iraqi's whose sewage system rarely works
183,000: British and American troops are still in action in Iraq.
13,000: from other nations
90: Daily attacks by insurgents in Nov '05. In Jun '03: 8
60-80: per cent Iraqis who are strongly opposed to presence of coalition troops
* In an accompanying piece from Baghdad, the newspaper's Patrick Cockburn adds one more stat: A BBC poll yesterday showed that half of the Iraqis questioned say that Iraq needs a strong leader--while only 28 per cent cited democracy as a priority.
Iraqis are cynical about their political leaders, Cockburn writes. The election results are likely to show that the great majority of Iraqis will vote along ethnic or religious lines as Shia, Sunni or Kurds. The country is turning from a unitary state into a confederation.
There is no sign yet of the thousand-day war ending. Every month up to a thousand fresh corpses arrive at the mortuary in Baghdad. A new Iraq is emerging but it is already drenched in blood.
FOR LIBERALS ONLY: 60 Minutes Interviews Iranian President Sunday.
I am looking forward to watching this interview because I am truly interested in hearing what this man has to say.
I can recall as a child growing up to the tune of We have to fight Vietnam because the Communists want to take over the world. During those times, the worst thing a person could be called in the USA was a Communist.
It seems to me these days the USA is the one that wants to take over the world. It has no respect for any government that cares about its poor people or even America's poor, for that matter. (For example, Chavez tried to provide cheap oil to the poor last winter while Bush didn't care if poor Americans froze to death.) Any country that removes the profit incentive from medicine or education for its citizens is a terrorist nation in Bush's eyes. We're quickly approaching the day when most of us will be poor as the middle class continues to disintegrate before our eyes.
I am suspect of everyone Bush labels as terrorist these days, and I want to hear both sides. Bush refuses to sit down diplomatically and listen to what Ahmadinejad has to say, so I'm grateful that Mike Wallace took the time to do so.
Tucker Carlson interviews David Ray Griffin, author of The New Pearl Harbor sm
He is a theology professor and member of Scholars for 911 Truth (one of those on the fringe loonies they keep telling you about - you will see he is not).
Check out Tucker's new look (I am LMAO). He is not wearing his trademark bow tie, and looks like he set his hair with curlers.

Anyway, I tried again and am working on it. It is me, gt, who posted this link. I did not use my initials cause I did not want to distract from what this video states and shows. I did not want to be linked up and bashed over this video. I just thought maybe you all would find these videos worthwhile to view. Anyway, I have an email out to a friend asking why I cant post the link on this site. Hopefully, she will get back to me soon, however, like I posted in the previous email, you can contact me at my email address Siouxtears@yahoo.com and I will send the link as it works via email. GT
New video on jib jab
There is a new video poking fun at everyone.....Bush, Cheney, Hillary, Obama. LOL. You might check it out for a little chuckle.
Better yet -here's it on video
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=N8QCkgg5Kjo
I didn't think anything of it at first but after watching the video it's just a little odd.
This video sure does take you behind
the scenes of the candidate that has been romanced by the mainstream media for so long. Very insightful. Thanks for posting.
BTW: Any bashers out there, flame away, but I won't respond. You guys are despicable lately. All you want to do is snuff out those not on your bandwagon, and I ain't getting into it with you because I have better things to do with my time. I was pretty interested in your guy too, at first, but the more I learn about him and his policies, as well as who he is as a person, the more educated of a voter I am to know that he is not the right candidate to lead this country. Try watching this video - it just might make you think twice. And, no, I am not into FEAR tactics, just FACTS.
As an American, I wish all of my fellow American MTs a great day!
Here is the video....
watch it and tell me again that the Democrats are not responsible and two of the most responsible are STILL in the banking and finance committees presently working on the bailout that THEY made necessary.

sorry about the video
sorry i know it has an impact. but i think it needs to be viewed. I was hoping that so many would get on there and watch that. I was so hoping that it would make someone, at least one person, say wow, i didnt realize and now I am going to have to be against it. I dont know how anyone can watch that and not change from it. You have to be so cold inside.
Does video lie?
There was a video of the reporter asking the people and that was the answers they gave. I can't remember the station, but I don't think it was Fox.
The video I saw
pretty clearly showed MO initiating the contact, and QE slightly shying back, before stopping.
There is an endearing story told about Queen Elizabeth. A dinner guest unfamiliar with the custom mistook his finger bowl for soup, picked up a spoon and started to eat it. QE, also picked up her spoon and began to eat hers.
Moral: It wasn't really soup. The guy was still an oaf. The queen was simply being gracious.
He did not. I saw him on video saying
NM
He did not. I saw him on video saying
or don't if you want to keep spreading lies. Now he's trying to blame his own words on saying he was using liberal lingo.
Thanks gt! Good video.
Thanks for posting that - I hadn't seen it before. Will be interesting to see what happens today the pro-war people arrive! (Know any links for a live feed?).
Okay, now I watched the video
and all I can say is I don't know what that guy was on, and I don't even know his show, but I don't think he's going to replace Bill O'Reilly in the top spot anytime soon. Maybe Jon Stewart, but not Bill...uh uh... He is funny. I'll give him that!
I can't get the video to work...sm
But I read an interview on the web where he talks about the clash of civilizations. Will read more on what he has to say. I will agree this has gotten far bigger than politics - far.
For the record, I don't hate Bush I just don't think he is the best choice for president.
I saw him on CNN yesterday. Here's the video.
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Seymour_Hersh__U.S._involved_in_0813.html
I found it very interesting, and you're right, he's yet to get it wrong.
LOL. I'm sure they can't handle the video anyway.sm
The link works only for those who have the ability to think on their own.
Thanks, TLD. That is a very special video. (nm)

Nice video. Thanks Cat!!

Saw the video, it is horrific, and it has NOTHING to do ....
with partial birth abortions. Obviously you did not view it. Partial birth abortion is not even shown in the video and the video has nothing to do with Barack Obama personally. It just shows what happens when an abortion is performed..the kind that are performed to the tune of over 2000 every day in this country...(which Obama is firmly behind).
Obama's Abortion Bombshell: Unrestricted Abortion Over Wishes of Individual States a Priority for Presidency
By Peter J. Smith
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 10, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Barack Obama, the presumptive pro-abortion nominee of the Democratic Party, has plans to reward the allies that helped him topple Hillary Clinton from her throne by making total unrestricted abortion in the United States his number one priority as president.
In light of Obama's recently achieved status as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Focus on the Family's CitizenLink has decided to remind its supporters that almost one year has passed since Obama made his vows to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that abortion would be the first priority of his administration.
"The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act," Obama said in his July speech to abortion advocates worried about the increase of pro-life legislation at the state level.
The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is legislation Obama has co-sponsored along with 18 other senators that would annihilate every single state law limiting or regulating abortion, including the federal ban on partial birth abortion.
The 2007 version of FOCA proposed: "It is the policy of the United States that every woman has the fundamental right to choose to bear a child, to terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability, or to terminate a pregnancy after fetal viability when necessary to protect the life or health of the woman."
Obama made his remarks in a question-and-answer session after delivering a speech crystallizing for abortion advocates his deep-seated abortion philosophy and his belief that federal legislation will break pro-life resistance and end the national debate on abortion. (see transcript: http://lauraetch.googlepages.com/barackobamabeforeplannedpar...)
"I am absolutely convinced that culture wars are so nineties; their days are growing dark, it is time to turn the page," Obama said in July. "We want a new day here in America. We're tired about arguing about the same ole' stuff. And I am convinced we can win that argument."
Besides making abortion on demand a "fundamental right" throughout the United States, FOCA would effectively nullify informed consent laws, waiting periods, health safety regulations for abortion clinics, etc.
Furthermore, medical professionals and institutions that refused abortions also would lose legal protections. FOCA would expose individuals, organizations, and governments - including federal, state, and local government agencies - to costly civil actions for purported violations of the act.
"Thirty-five years after Roe, abortion supporters, like Senator Obama, are dismayed that abortion remains a divisive issue and that their radical agenda has not been submissively accepted by the American public," states Denise M. Burke, vice president of Americans United for Life.
"Rather than confronting legitimate issues concerning the availability and safety of abortion, they choose to blatantly ignore the concerns and interests of everyday Americans, as well as the growing evidence that abortion hurts women."
Hillary Clinton, once the longtime Democratic front-runner and anticipated abortion president, conceded defeat last Saturday to Obama, who captured the nomination from her after a long and bitter campaign.
Obama has won the crucial endorsement of abortion activist Frances Kissling, who broke from the ranks of other radical feminist leaders earlier this year to endorse Obama, saying Obama, not Clinton, would better use the bully pulpit of the presidency to accomplish their aims and end the culture wars over abortion.

Okay. I see it in that video. What I am saying is that prevalent...
or was that one video out of many chosen for maximum effect? I hate that it happens too. But Palin did not invent the practice, and it is done many other places than Alaska, so why single her out over this issue?

Whether you like him or not, this bush video clip is hilarious.

Great video - thanks!!
nm
everything in that video WAS fact...
There is no way to twist those facts. I cannot believe you are not open-minded enough to admit the truth when it is staring you in the face. Mind boggling. Absolutely mind boggling.
Exactly what part of the video do you....
consider a conspiracy? The Chris Dodd part? The Barney Frank part? The Franklin Raines part? All denying that there was a problem with fannie/freddie? Which part of that is the conspiracy? SOme nasty Republican holding a gun to their heads to make them say it?
Perhaps the disclosure of which politicians were most in the fannie pocket? That part?
Or maybe the part where the bills introduced by the Republicans (named and numbered and easily verified) trying to regulate fannie/freddie only to be shot down by the Dems? That part? The part where McCain said on the senate floor we better wake up? That part?
Which part was it?
Video no longer available.....
It appears the video that is the subject of this post was pulled from YouTube after Warner Music filed a copyright infringement claim against its producer. Hopefully, it will reappear soon with no music or different music. We’ll see. In lieu of the video, the links that appear below this graphic are well worth your time to review, so scroll down now…
Below are links to news sources cited throughout the video shown in the order in which they appeared in the video:
The video was much better and the music was good. It sucks they took it off, but at least here are the links that this person used to make the video.

by the way..did u watch the video?
Like I said, if you can support abortion, you should be able to watch it.
PS: Did u or did u not watch the video????? nm
s
There probably isn't an actual video.........sm
since this was an interview given to a newspaper and not a television station. I'm sure it was only audio taped, hence the picture where the video would be. Why do believe that it is not his voice or that he is not actually saying what we all hear he is saying?
Anybody get a video from someone on this board?
I didn't take too kindly to it. I debated opening it, but I did. Another O supporter who doesn't look at the facts.
