My take......

There are parts of what he says that does make perfect sense. There are many very wealthy older folks out there (I know quite a few) and those are ones I know should perhaps pay more of their way instead of Medicare paying for it; thereby, affording those older folks who were not so fortunate as to have those large retirements, the opportunity to benefit from Medicare and SS.
We do pay for Medicare and SS but they are taking 2 to 3 times MORE than what they paid in..... that was his point. Free Viagra? Are you kidding? Many older folks CAN afford those things out of pocket and should pay for those things, not Medicare. And those folks know who they are; they are not hurting for money.
Most of those who don't get his point are those who don't know they will make ends meet, how they will pay their medical bills, etc., and this gets their feathers ruffled. If the system wasn't abused by those who have more than enough to pay, then there would be enough for those who truly cannot afford those things.
I lived in south Florida a looong time in areas where elderly retired and let me tell you, those people were living it up. They have 2,3, or more homes, travel overseas for months on end, drive Mercedes, and have LOTS of dough to blow. They get Medicare payments for their healthcare FAR beyond what they ever paid in, so should they take what they can afford while others who can't afford it may have to do without?
