if it is proven that the reason Plame was outed by our high government officials (which is a crime in and of itself) in order to expose her and her husband Joe Wilson to the media in retaliation for Wilson's findings on the WMD you should be able to tell the major difference between the two cases. But, I won't hold my breath.
If Plame was outed to the media by Scooter Libby, then it is a downright shame. How can any of the CIA coverts feel safe when the VP chief of staff is running his flap to the media leaking classified infomation?

If you read another post I said I do not wish any thing bad on this country nor do I wish anything bad on the president. But, the writing is on the wall, the man doesn't know what the heck he is doing. He has put this country out there as far as security goes. He is taking away means for this country to protect itself. It is he who is taking things lightly. I don't need to search for "crumbs" regarding his incompetence, its all right there in big boulders for you to see. I am trying to divide the country along party lines? It has been divided along party lines for decades. I sleep fine at night thank you..........except for when I worry when the next attack on this country will be because Obama does not know how to secure this country! I adopted a ferile kitten. They were going to drown them. Took me a long time to tame her, but she is greatest now even though she is very territorial. I have another persian cat who is no longer welcome at my local Petsmart because he bit the groomer. I guess I have what you would consider 2 attack cats.

I don't make near $80,000 a year but I pay my bills, insure my children, and they do not go without meals. We don't have the primo cable, we don't have the flat screen TVs, we don't drive the best cars. We don't have the high dollar video games. I have my priorities straight and I DO NOT expect tthe government to take care of my children. That is MY job. I am the parent.
As to disgusted for fund raises when kids get cancer...can you please get real? Even with insurance policies, there are huge bills left over. We all know that. Fund raisers help offset that. There is no policy in existence that pays every expense, I don't care HOW good it is. And there are hospitals all over this country...shriners, St. Jude to name a couple...and the ability to pay has nothing to do with children being treated. But they don't go looking for you; you actually have to go there for help.
Do you even really know what this bill would do or wouldn't do? Have you read it? You never answered my question. You think the government should pay the insurance for a family of 4 making $80K? WHY? You tell me why a family making $80K cannot pay for health insurance and feed their kids? If they can't, what they need is budget counseling, not freebie government insurance. As to payng huge premiums or eating....if a family of 4 making $80,000 has to choose between eating and insurance premiums...again...they need budget counseling. Families up to that level could get on SCHIP BEFORE the expansion. The reality is people did not make the hard decisions, and if they are making $80K a year with two kids and can't insure them, they have made wrong decisions. And..hellooo....unless it is a private hospital, if a child has a life-threatening illness such as cancer...they have to treat them. They cannot turn them away. And they have to accept payments "that the person can afford." We all know that too. You make it sound as if a diabetic child cannot get treatment if the government does not pay for it because his $80K parents can't take care of him. I cannot believe you made a statement like that. What parent, I ask you, making $80K a year could not/WOULD not take care of that diabetic child??? That has NOTHING to do with the government and EVERYTHING to do with the parent. Its called responsibility.
If you would do your homework and look at SCHIP as it is now and see how high up the income ladder it already goes...lower income families were covered then. Expanding it to include illegal aliens and families of 4 making $80K....not necessary.
I have nothing to look away from. If parents making $80K can look away and spend that insurance money on something other than their diabetic child....well, 'nuff said!!

I don't care what party someone is affiliated with. How can they do that and not think anything of it. I've got family out of work and losing homes and some going without eating some days and these politicians want money to go for pig smells, rodents, or whatever the pork product is. How can they do that and stand up there and act as though there is nothing wrong with it. When the politicians stop caring about what is happening in the economy that is the time they should stop being a politician.

so, I called his financial advisor yesterday and told him to put hubby in a "safe" plan. It's now in a money market fund that is part of his IRA.
I have no choice. I have to stay where I am. I have no "safe" available. Neither of us will be able to retire on what is now in our 401Ks and you're not the only one. We couldn't buy a car with Both our 401Ks, let alone live on it.
We are late starters for retirement not until our late 40s funds (most of our employers did not offer pensions). We are now of the first retirement tier and although we own our home outright, if we live until we are 90, there is no way we can live off retirement 401Ks or SS.
My husband's father told him back in the 50s that we would experience something like what is happening today and stated it would be worse than the ཙ crash. It is sure starting to look that way, but we will survive some way, I hope.
We need to pray for the people on SS now that cannot survive. I, for one, would love to help them, but can't help ourselves at this moment.

First of all, there is no war to be won. Our enemy cannot be destroyed by brute force. Our enemy hides among the population, lives among the people. They have no strongholds we can attack, no supply lines we can cut, and no army we can outmatch and outgun on a traditional battlefield. We are fighting on their terms, but we have refused to acknowledge that. I ask you, what do you think Rush means when he talks about "winning the war in Iraq?" What does he envision as victory? The end of all violence against American targets? Complete and total peace? When Iraqis welcome our soldiers into their homes, and hug and kiss them in the streets? The insurgency is a disease. We have tried to destroy the infections that we have encountered, but we have not found a cure. We cannot prevent it, we cannot vaccinate against it. So long as American forces remain in Iraq, there can be no peace. You cannot convince the average Iraqi that we are there for his benefit, when his brothers have been killed by our soldiers, his home bombed by our planes, his life governed and monitored by our Army. So long as our soldiers patrol their streets, the Iraqis cannot be free, and the insurgency will continue. The hard truth is, the Bush administration does not know what to do in Iraq. They do not know how to achieve victory, because they do not know what victory should mean.
Leave Iraq. Bring our soldiers home. Apologize to the Iraqi people. Has anyone in the Bush camp ever thought of that? We are not fighting the Iraqi people as a whole. We are fighting various elements within the population. We owe the Iraqi people an apology, for invading their lives and killing their innocents (and because it was accidental does not excuse us from our responsibility). It is wrong to hate the Iraqi people. The vast majority of them are victims, caught in the crossfire. But the longer we remain in Iraq, the more noncombatants will join the insurgency, and become our enemies. The insurgents don't need to recruit new members; we are providing the people with reasons to join the fight against us, merely by doing what we are currently doing in their country. It is the propaganda that people like Rush spread that creates more and more hate, and makes it harder and harder to really and truly win the war in Iraq.
Newspapers are not losing
their audience because of ***political suicide***. It is because of the satellite/cable 24/7 coverage of the news on TV and the internet blogs where one can go to hear whatever it is they want to hear, true or not. Most people do not read much anymore as well. There are some really **big** words in the newspapers.

Found this on another political message board and thought it might be an interesting read here. I know we don't all hold the same opinions on the war and on President Bush, but take a couple of minutes to read this and give it some thought.

President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on
terrorism. But the mistake was not his decision to go to
war in Iraq . Bush's mistake came in his belief that
this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII.
It is not.
Back then, they had just come out of a vicious depression.
The country was steeled by the hardship of that depression,
but they still believed fervently in this country. They knew
that the people had elected their leaders, so it was the
people's duty to back those leaders.
Therefore, when the war broke out the people came together,
rallied behind, and stuck with their leaders, whether they
had voted for them or not or whether the war was going
badly or not.
And war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as
great then as it is today. Often there were more casualties
in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire Iraq war.
But that did not matter. The people stuck with the
President because it was their patriotic duty. Americans
put aside their differences in WWII and worked together to
win that war.
Everyone from every strata of society, from young to old
pitched in. Small children pulled little wagons around to
gather scrap metal for the war effort. Grade school
students saved their pennies to buy stamps for war bonds to
help the effort.
Men who were too old or medically 4F lied about their age
or condition trying their best to join the military.
Women doubled their work to keep things going at home. Harsh rationing of everything from gasoline to soap, to
butter was imposed, yet there was very little complaining.
You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling
the President. Interestingly enough in those days there
were no fat cat actors and entertainers who ran off to
visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and
complain to them about our President. Instead, they made
upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the
troops' morale. And a bunch even enlisted.
And imagine this: Teachers in schools actually started the
day off with a Pledge of Allegiance, and with prayers for
our country and our troops!
Back then, no newspaper would have dared point out certain
weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to
cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared
complain about what we were doing to catch spies.. A
newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it
had complaine d that German or Japanese soldiers were being
'tortured' by being forced to wear women's
underwear, or subjected to interrogation by a woman, or
being scared by a dog or did not have air conditioning.
There were a lot of things different back then. We were not
subjected to a constant bombardment of pornography,
perversion and promiscuity in movies or on radio. We did
not have legions of crack heads, dope pushers and armed
gangs roaming our streets.
No, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling
of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we
still had the courage and fortitude of our fathers. He
believed that this was still the country that our fathers
fought so dearly to preserve.
It is not the same country. It is now a cross between
Sodom and Gomorra and the land of Oz. We did unite for a
short while after 9/11, but our attitude changed when we
found out that defending our country would require some sacrifices.
We are in great danger. The terrorists are fanatic
Muslims. They believe that it is okay, even their duty, to
kill anyone who will not convert to Islam. It has been
estimated that about one third or over three hundred
million Muslims are sympathetic to the terrorists cause...
Hitler and Tojo combined did not have nearly that many
potential recruits. So... We either win it - or lose it -
and you ain't gonna like losing.
America is not at war. The military is at war.
America is at the mall, or watching the movie stars.
(Remember Obama said in his book 'Audacity of
Hope', 'I will stand with the Muslims should the
political winds shift in an ugly direction'.....what
better place for the Muslims to control our country, than
in the office of the President of USA .

Evidently they had invited GB on their show to discuss his views on current issues. Instead, 7 minutes of air time was wasted on this? This wasn't even comedy, nothing funny, just junk. Seven minutes of crap about a seat on a train!

I read the article. Their freedoms are not being taken away. However, they are treating the home like it is a business and bring the congregation to a private home conducting business there without a license. This should be kept in the churches.
The "homosexual community" had nothing to do with this and no where in the article does it say that.

Bush Teleconference With Soldiers Staged

It was billed as a conversation with U.S. troops, but the questions President Bush asked on a teleconference call Thursday were choreographed to match his goals for the war in Iraq and Saturday's vote on a new Iraqi constitution.
This is an important time, Allison Barber, deputy assistant defense secretary, said, coaching the soldiers before Bush arrived. The president is looking forward to having just a conversation with you.
Barber said the president was interested in three topics: the overall security situation in Iraq, security preparations for the weekend vote and efforts to train Iraqi troops.
As she spoke in Washington, a live shot of 10 soldiers from the Army's 42nd Infantry Division and one Iraqi soldier was beamed into the Eisenhower Executive Office Building from Tikrit — the birthplace of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
I'm going to ask somebody to grab those two water bottles against the wall and move them out of the camera shot for me, Barber said.
A brief rehearsal ensued.
OK, so let's just walk through this, Barber said. Captain Kennedy, you answer the first question and you hand the mike to whom?
Captain Smith, Kennedy said.
Captain. Smith? You take the mike and you hand it to whom? she asked.
Captain Kennedy, the soldier replied.
And so it went.
If the question comes up about partnering — how often do we train with the Iraqi military — who does he go to? Barber asked.
That's going to go to Captain Pratt, one of the soldiers said.
And then if we're going to talk a little bit about the folks in Tikrit — the hometown — and how they're handling the political process, who are we going to give that to? she asked.
Before he took questions, Bush thanked the soldiers for serving and reassured them that the U.S. would not pull out of Iraq until the mission was complete.
So long as I'm the president, we're never going to back down, we're never going to give in, we'll never accept anything less than total victory, Bush said.
The president told them twice that the American people were behind them.
You've got tremendous support here at home, Bush said.
Less than 40 percent in an AP-Ipsos poll taken in October said they approved of the way Bush was handling Iraq. Just over half of the public now say the Iraq war was a mistake.
White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday's event was coordinated with the Defense Department but that the troops were expressing their own thoughts. With satellite feeds, coordination often is needed to overcome technological challenges, such as delays, he said.
I think all they were doing was talking to the troops and letting them know what to expect, he said, adding that the president wanted to talk with troops on the ground who have firsthand knowledge about the situation.
The soldiers all gave Bush an upbeat view of the situation.
The president also got praise from the Iraqi soldier who was part of the chat.
Thank you very much for everything, he gushed. I like you.
On preparations for the vote, 1st Lt. Gregg Murphy of Tennessee said: Sir, we are prepared to do whatever it takes to make this thing a success. ... Back in January, when we were preparing for that election, we had to lead the way. We set up the coordination, we made the plan. We're really happy to see, during the preparation for this one, sir, they're doing everything.
On the training of Iraqi security forces, Master Sgt. Corine Lombardo from Scotia, N.Y., said to Bush: I can tell you over the past 10 months, we've seen a tremendous increase in the capabilities and the confidences of our Iraqi security force partners. ... Over the next month, we anticipate seeing at least one-third of those Iraqi forces conducting independent operations.
Lombardo told the president that she was in New York City on Nov. 11, 2001, when Bush attended an event recognizing soldiers for their recovery and rescue efforts at Ground Zero. She said the troops began the fight against terrorism in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and were proud to continue it in Iraq.
I thought you looked familiar, Bush said, and then joked: I probably look familiar to you, too.
Paul Rieckhoff, director of the New York-based Operation Truth, an advocacy group for U.S. veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, denounced the event as a carefully scripted publicity stunt. Five of the 10 U.S. troops involved were officers, he said.
If he wants the real opinions of the troops, he can't do it in a nationally televised teleconference, Rieckhoff said. He needs to be talking to the boots on the ground and that's not a bunch of captains.

Soldiers are no different than anyone else....
in that there are those who disagree with this administration and the war. However, the overwhelming majority of the military respect the commander in chief and they believe in their mission. But, if you only watch CNN and liberal media, you will not hear from those soldiers. For every article from a liberal source you find that Bush did not listen to leaders, I can find one from a conservative source to counter. We will have to agree to disagree. I do not find this administration stubborn...I find this administration trying to stick to its guns so to speak, doing what is best in the long run for this country as far as countering terrorism. I know you do not understand nor want to understand the danger; however, I do. Every time Reid or Pelosi do something stupid, the liberal media lauds them as heroes and you can go right to the Arab news outlets and see how they pick it up and run with it. Al Qaeda must be lovin life right now. And that makes me SICK.
As to the half staff, talk about stubborness...I do not know and still do not understand why you cling to that as some kind of evidence that Bush doesn't care about the soldiers or people in Iraq, because he ordered a half staff for the VA Tech victims. And why you would say just because we have always done it that way... sheesh. Hanging onto this just screams at me that it is your problem with Bush personally and nothing else. I cannot see how you can find fault with the half staff and criticize the man for showing up at Va Tech. And..frankly...he cannot control what the governor said, but that being said...I do not understand the reaction of the left to it. But then I do not understand the reaction of the left to much of anything. I do not understand how you profess compassion for the Iraqi civilians yet want to cut and run and leave them to the terrorist thugs. That makes absolutely no sense to me. A President showing compassion for those kids at VA Tech, and you don't like that...what kind of sense does that make? The President shows compassion meeting with families of fallen soldiers, and if you look at him you can tell the toll this has all taken on him personally...if you took the time to look...not that you give a darn. I would like to say I understand you, but I don't. I used to think I did, but you have changed. It kinda reminds me of the at commercial I once saw that said: *You will be assimilated. Sadly, I believe you have been.
Who are these many soldiers?
I would be interested in knowing. I did not say you or anyone was Anti American...do not put words in my mouth. You used the word patriotic, I used it back to you. I said it was not illegal...and it is not. Congress voted for it. It is not illegal. If a soldier said it was immoral it is his right, like it is your right. However, when you talk about pulling funding when we have troops in battle, yes, I think that is unpatriotic, and if a soldier said we should pull funding, yes, I would say he was unpatriotic too. I have never heard a soldier say so. I have certainly never heard "many" soldiers call the war immoral either.
For the soldiers
As a tribute to our soldiers I felt a strong need to post this. As a prior US Army soldier I was proud of my country when I served and I am proud of all our soldiers in today's Army, and proud of anyone who decides (past, present, and future), that they love our country so much and the freedoms it offers us to give their time to the military. This is no small step. Your whole life changes in the blink of an eye (or however long it takes you to sign your name) and you will never be the same again or look at things the same as you did before.
The election recently has brought this to mind. I can remember the times my mom sending me an absentee ballot to vote and when I turned it in to my First Sergeant he looked at it and said Soldiers do not have the right to vote. You are a soldier in the Army and you will serve your country. We were "An Army of One" and our individual viewpoints do not matter. (When I joined J. Carter was president and this was the next election when Carter/Regan were running). So I threw my ballot in the garbage and followed my First Sergeant's order as a soldier is trained to do.
I have been reading that 68% of our veterans support J. McCain and only 23% support B. Obama. There is a post below that has an article that is focusing on only those 23%. In any organization you are going to have disgruntled employees, but if you were trying to judge a company would you base your decision on the few disgruntled or what the company employees have to say as a whole about their company.

Most military will not vote for Obama, with every rule there is an exception but I personally know that the majority of the military will never vote for someone like him!

He preaches change, but never says what that change will entail, but if you look at his record you can deduce that the change he talks about is a dumbed down version socialism, which sounds nice on paper but never works!

I’m sick of people telling me that they need to pull the troops out, when I am trying as hard as I can to rehabilitate and get back out there to finish the job! pulling us out would undo everything that we’ve worked for, everything that I sweat and bled for out there, everything that some very dear friends have died for! And by pulling us out you’d be saying that what we did didn’t amount to anything, and those lives lost were in vein.
There is a responsible way of pulling the troops out and there is an irresponsible way. If we just got pulled out of there then there would be a vacuum effect that would turn Iraq into more of a terrorist breeding ground than it ever was before, more so than even Afghanistan. And that would undo everything that we worked so hard to accomplish!!! I have been for this war from the very beginning, and even after facing death, being shot, and having all the surgeries I’ve had since I’ve been home I believe in the cause now more than ever. But even if you opposed the war to begin with we can’t abandon those people now it would be selfish, reckless, and utterly irresponsible to do so and would actually make things much worse for us in the long run.
I’m not the biggest McCain supporter there are many issues I don’t agree with him on but he at least understands all of this, he understands what we are going through over there, he understands combat, and he understands what is at stake in this war that the American people have seemingly abandoned and forgotten, not only our future but the future of an entire nation of people is at risk if we give in and pull out!
Some people don’t think it’s our responsibility to fight for other countries and stabilize their governments but as I’ve said before in previous blogs “It’s a good thing France didn’t have that attitude during our revolution, otherwise we never would have won our own Independence!!!”
Obama is not a competent Commander in Chief! You tell me what exactly he stands for???????? CHANGE? what the he!! is he gonna change? HOPE? what kind of hope? are you kidding me? he never says what the he!! he’s talking about, he just throws out what people want to hear but never provides a solution!!! Most people I talk to that say they’re gonna vote for him can’t even answer those questions, but they’re gonna vote for him because someone they know and respect says they are gonna vote for him! Why don’t you at least look into it yourself and make an educated decision! I can at least respect that! But that doesn’t seem to be the case in most people I’ve come across.

One other note is that we need a person like McCain who will be workign towards winning the war and bring our troops home as the hero's they are. Not Obama's idea of pulling them all out irresponsibly and then they'll end up like the soldier's after the Vietnam War. They'll be called everything you can thing of (invader's, murderers, etc.). They'll be treated the same exact way the soldier's were treated from the Vietnam War.
I pray for our troops every day, and will pray until the election is over the the right person (McCain), will win this election.

Can't have a fast food place in low income neighborhoods in California anymore because someone has decided because people have low incomes, they obviously can't make their own choices.
Can't have trans fat because someone has decided we can't decide for ourselves what those are.
Businessowners can no longer decide to allow smoking in their bars where majority of patrons are smokers in many places because someone else has decided it's for the greater good if they don't.

It isn't Democrat or Republican, it's WE THE PEOPLE allowing these things to happen, allowing ourselves to be duped by studies, doctors, and scientists who think they know what is best for everyone and that we aren't capable of making choices on our own. If we don't stop it in its tracks, it won't matter which party or who is in office. It will continue to spin out of control until we no longer have the choices of which you speak! But in order to make any difference, we have to be united and stop turning on each other.

The govt in Iran has really been cracking down on communications. From what I understand (from news last night) they are confiscating computers, cell phones, etc. Because of this, there just simply isn't as much news coming out of Iran.
From some acconts from yesterday it has been said that they started yielding axes (of all things) along with the clubs and tear gas, and threw at least one protester off a bridge.
However, there are still postings on YouTube daily of the brutality going on.

you know, on the news last evening, in a very mild manner, it was mentioned that maybe only 30% of the overseas military's votes will be counted this election, due to mail problems, time constraints, etc. OUTRAGEOUS!!! To boot, this also happened 4 yr ago, and still no one has fixed it (tho 1 senator is allegedly trying). Where are all the hanging chad type screaming complaints, the concern for the (hate this word now): disenfranchised???? IMO this would not be a hard problem to fix, so why is it still broke? A soldier's vote should be most definitely counted, WITHOUT FAIL. Grrrrrr. not to mention, that in Ohio, reported also last night, the homeless can now list their park benches as their addresses, and vote. Mind you, you cannot collect help in the form of welfare/food stamps etc without a solid normal address, but you can vote. nevermind that the homeless are likely uninformed. (don't feed or house them, just give them a ballot and tell them who to vote for...) all the while, our military's votes are casually tossed aside, with an "oh well..." i am still fuming the next day.

We have several in our town who have been stationed down there and they will certainly tell you it scares the he!! out of them to see Obama is shutting Gitmo down. They personally have heard those incarcerated bragging about what has been done and laughing at the U.S. til the next attack when they heard Obama is closing it down.

Last March, a group of soldiers and veterans gathered in Washington, DC, to recount their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan. They spent three days testifying, confessing and mourning. They revealed atrocities never before spoken of - the brutal murders of civilians, the destruction of homes and villages, the rape and sexual assault of both civilians and US military women - and displayed photos and video footage to back up their claims. The event was titled "Winter Soldier," harkening back to the 1971 Winter Soldier Investigation, in which veterans gathered in Detroit to give testimony about war crimes they had committed or witnessed in Vietnam. Both Winter Soldiers zeroed in on the US military policy's devastating effects, straight from the mouths of those charged with carrying out that policy.

I've paid taxes all my life - federal, state, city, sales, property - I contribute to the greater good. I also have organized charity for families and painted and nailed and laid carpet and tile in poverty stricken homes when I barely had a pot to piss in myself - that was my Christmas gift to my children. I have donated to veteran's halfway houses when I was only making $5.30 an hour - so keep betting on 3-legged horses. I moved in with my parents and took care of my father who was dying while working full-time as a supervisor several states away (thankfully, my employer was cooperative). I always GIVE to my community even when I have only my labor to give. I also donated to Obama's campaign and went door-to-door handing out pamphlets in an attempt to wrench this country from the greedy grasp of the heathen right. AND, WE were successful. So, while the current socialist party inhouse is passing out the last of China's loans to the banks - Obama's team will have a fine time trying to shovel us back to prosperity. You think you are paying too much in taxes now? Since we have the worst unemployment rate since 1945 - I do believe you will be seeing a whole lot more being spent to try to save the citizens of this country and through sheer stubborn ignorance - you will blame Obama instead of the reichwing neo-cons who put us in this position in the first place. All of this impacts our lesser fortunate - the mentally ill and the disabled. Jobs won't go to them. Wait a minute. What jobs?

about the party who CLAIMS to support them but disrespect their families when they speak out. After all, did they not fight so freedoms like, freedom of speech, would be guaranteed?
I understand that families speaking out are not protected from retort but it is hypocritical to accuse liberals of not supporting the troops when you are the ones blasting fallen soldier's families. What do they just *support* conservative soldiers with conservative families???
