Fighting for your parental rights
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=412082
Parental right and (guess what) the RIGHT TO LIFE
Here are the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child:

The Convention deals with the child-specific needs and rights. It requires that states act in the best interests of the child. This approach is different from the common law approach found in many countries that had previously treated children and wives as possessions or chattels, ownership of which was often argued over in family disputes. In many jurisdictions, properly implementing the Convention requires an overhaul of child custody and guardianship laws, or, at the very least, a creative approach within the existing laws.

The Convention acknowledges that every child has certain basic rights, including the right to life, his or her own name and identity, to be raised by his or her parents within a family or cultural grouping and have a relationship with both parents, even if they are separated.

The Convention obliges states to allow parents to exercise their parental responsibilities. The Convention also acknowledges that children have the right to express their opinions and to have those opinions heard and acted upon when appropriate, to be protected from abuse or exploitation, to have their privacy protected and requires that their lives not be subject to excessive interference.

The Convention also obliges signatory states to provide separate legal representation for a child in any judicial dispute concerning their care and asks that the child's viewpoint be heard in such cases. The Convention forbids capital punishment for children.

What in the world is so scary about this?

Parental guidance for our elected officials:

No going out to play till you've finished your homework!

Using Cliff notes is cheating.  Read the whole book.

Do NOT make me come after you!

I don't CARE what the other kids are doing.  You're my kid and as long as you're under my roof......

Use your brain!  If your friends jumped off a cliff, would you jump off too?

When you earn your OWN money you may spend it as you please.

What part of NO did you not understand?

This is the only way to teach you anything...

I am counting to three.  One [TARP].....two [Cap and Trade] ....

Did I miss any?

Kind of a side question about parental consent on abortions
What happens if something goes wrong and the 14 year old dies while having the abortion? Do the parents have any recourse?

I just don't think anyone should undergo a medical procedure like that without the consent of parents. Everyone says "oh control your kids, make them behave, you need to be aware of what they are doing" but then something as huge as this is okay for them to not know about?

I've just always wondered about that. It just seems irresponsible. Whats next? 14-year-old girls can get breast implants without consent?
You are losing it for us, Rush.
"Whether you agree with the fact that it's going on or not, we all have come to the decision that it's best that we win it. You haven't even joined us on that. You hope we lose it. You want to lose it because you want to embarrass the leaders of the country. What must your lives be like?"

First of all, there is no war to be won. Our enemy cannot be destroyed by brute force. Our enemy hides among the population, lives among the people. They have no strongholds we can attack, no supply lines we can cut, and no army we can outmatch and outgun on a traditional battlefield. We are fighting on their terms, but we have refused to acknowledge that. I ask you, what do you think Rush means when he talks about "winning the war in Iraq?" What does he envision as victory? The end of all violence against American targets? Complete and total peace? When Iraqis welcome our soldiers into their homes, and hug and kiss them in the streets? The insurgency is a disease. We have tried to destroy the infections that we have encountered, but we have not found a cure. We cannot prevent it, we cannot vaccinate against it. So long as American forces remain in Iraq, there can be no peace. You cannot convince the average Iraqi that we are there for his benefit, when his brothers have been killed by our soldiers, his home bombed by our planes, his life governed and monitored by our Army. So long as our soldiers patrol their streets, the Iraqis cannot be free, and the insurgency will continue. The hard truth is, the Bush administration does not know what to do in Iraq. They do not know how to achieve victory, because they do not know what victory should mean.

Leave Iraq. Bring our soldiers home. Apologize to the Iraqi people. Has anyone in the Bush camp ever thought of that? We are not fighting the Iraqi people as a whole. We are fighting various elements within the population. We owe the Iraqi people an apology, for invading their lives and killing their innocents (and because it was accidental does not excuse us from our responsibility). It is wrong to hate the Iraqi people. The vast majority of them are victims, caught in the crossfire. But the longer we remain in Iraq, the more noncombatants will join the insurgency, and become our enemies. The insurgents don't need to recruit new members; we are providing the people with reasons to join the fight against us, merely by doing what we are currently doing in their country. It is the propaganda that people like Rush spread that creates more and more hate, and makes it harder and harder to really and truly win the war in Iraq.
Newspapers are not losing
their audience because of ***political suicide***. It is because of the satellite/cable 24/7 coverage of the news on TV and the internet blogs where one can go to hear whatever it is they want to hear, true or not. Most people do not read much anymore as well. There are some really **big** words in the newspapers.
its more than losing books

that concerns me.  It is the mindset that her beliefs are the only true ones and that information and opinions that differ from hers should not be available to United States citizens.  That is down-right mindblowing.

Whatever. But I think your candidate was losing
Sometimes he actually looked a little confused. Petit mal, perhaps?

You ain't gonna like losing.
Found this on another political message board and thought it might be an interesting read here. I know we don't all hold the same opinions on the war and on President Bush, but take a couple of minutes to read this and give it some thought.

This is from: 'You ain't gonna like losing.'

Author unknown.

President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on
terrorism. But the mistake was not his decision to go to
war in Iraq . Bush's mistake came in his belief that
this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII.
It is not.

Back then, they had just come out of a vicious depression.
The country was steeled by the hardship of that depression,
but they still believed fervently in this country. They knew
that the people had elected their leaders, so it was the
people's duty to back those leaders.

Therefore, when the war broke out the people came together,
rallied behind, and stuck with their leaders, whether they
had voted for them or not or whether the war was going
badly or not.

And war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as
great then as it is today. Often there were more casualties
in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire Iraq war.
But that did not matter. The people stuck with the
President because it was their patriotic duty. Americans
put aside their differences in WWII and worked together to
win that war.

Everyone from every strata of society, from young to old
pitched in. Small children pulled little wagons around to
gather scrap metal for the war effort. Grade school
students saved their pennies to buy stamps for war bonds to
help the effort.

Men who were too old or medically 4F lied about their age
or condition trying their best to join the military.

Women doubled their work to keep things going at home. Harsh rationing of everything from gasoline to soap, to
butter was imposed, yet there was very little complaining.

You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling
the President. Interestingly enough in those days there
were no fat cat actors and entertainers who ran off to
visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and
complain to them about our President. Instead, they made
upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the
troops' morale. And a bunch even enlisted.

And imagine this: Teachers in schools actually started the
day off with a Pledge of Allegiance, and with prayers for
our country and our troops!

Back then, no newspaper would have dared point out certain
weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to
cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared
complain about what we were doing to catch spies.. A
newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it
had complaine d that German or Japanese soldiers were being
'tortured' by being forced to wear women's
underwear, or subjected to interrogation by a woman, or
being scared by a dog or did not have air conditioning.

There were a lot of things different back then. We were not
subjected to a constant bombardment of pornography,
perversion and promiscuity in movies or on radio. We did
not have legions of crack heads, dope pushers and armed
gangs roaming our streets.

No, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling
of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we
still had the courage and fortitude of our fathers. He
believed that this was still the country that our fathers
fought so dearly to preserve.

It is not the same country. It is now a cross between
Sodom and Gomorra and the land of Oz. We did unite for a
short while after 9/11, but our attitude changed when we
found out that defending our country would require some sacrifices.

We are in great danger. The terrorists are fanatic
Muslims. They believe that it is okay, even their duty, to
kill anyone who will not convert to Islam. It has been
estimated that about one third or over three hundred
million Muslims are sympathetic to the terrorists cause...
Hitler and Tojo combined did not have nearly that many
potential recruits. So... We either win it - or lose it -
and you ain't gonna like losing.

America is not at war. The military is at war.

America is at the mall, or watching the movie stars.

(Remember Obama said in his book 'Audacity of
Hope', 'I will stand with the Muslims should the
political winds shift in an ugly direction'.....what
better place for the Muslims to control our country, than
in the office of the President of USA .
No wonder their network is losing
Evidently they had invited GB on their show to discuss his views on current issues. Instead, 7 minutes of air time was wasted on this? This wasn't even comedy, nothing funny, just junk. Seven minutes of crap about a seat on a train!
Oh please - no one is losing their freedom
I read the article. Their freedoms are not being taken away. However, they are treating the home like it is a business and bring the congregation to a private home conducting business there without a license. This should be kept in the churches.

The "homosexual community" had nothing to do with this and no where in the article does it say that.

You'll be the first to try and take away the rights of the gays and lesbians, but you sure don't like it back do ya.
Future
Lesbian couples use artificial insemination now. Why would the future make any difference? In return, they could be surrogates for gay male couples. sorry just don't follow your reasoning.
the future
I am amazed at how many psychics we have on this board. I have never seen so many people who can predict what the future holds for our country.

I'm also shocked to learn that only right-wing conservatives and others who vote for McCain/Palin are the only ones who care about our country.

Thanks for clearing things up for me.
If you want to know the future

Read up on the Lincoln presidency.

Last night on Charlie Rose guests called Obama obsessed with Lincoln and determined to not let us down.

So read up, I am sure there were no "everybody gets a goodie bag" lines with him, but I will read up and find out exactly what he did do if that is my president's hero.

This is concerning. This is about the future of our
After all, Obama stated he wanted to become president for his children and for other children. Oh, I guess I must be wrong.
How can you say this? Can you see into the future? ...nm

He looks a few questions away from losing control...nm

Not too worried about losing Christian Right
nm
But we are losing our ability to choose every day.
Can't have a fast food place in low income neighborhoods in California anymore because someone has decided because people have low incomes, they obviously can't make their own choices.

Can't have trans fat because someone has decided we can't decide for ourselves what those are.

Businessowners can no longer decide to allow smoking in their bars where majority of patrons are smokers in many places because someone else has decided it's for the greater good if they don't.

I could go on. It isn't Democrat or Republican, it's WE THE PEOPLE allowing these things to happen, allowing ourselves to be duped by studies, doctors, and scientists who think they know what is best for everyone and that we aren't capable of making choices on our own. If we don't stop it in its tracks, it won't matter which party or who is in office. It will continue to spin out of control until we no longer have the choices of which you speak! But in order to make any difference, we have to be united and stop turning on each other.
He's losing his bearings alright...
I sincerely think that melanoma has affected his brain. He used to be a maverick, especially when he ran against GWB in 2000. Now he's just old, real old. Think it's time for him to retire.
Biden - is he losing his mind?

Headline on Drudge - Biden taps on reporters chest and tells him "you need to work on your pecs"

Is he that touchy feely to go up and touch a strangers chests?  I sure hope we don't see that same "love-fest" we saw between Kerry & Edwards.

Losing arguments and saying nothing significant
The OP obviously knows a whole lot more about what she is talking about than you have demonstrated with your snips. If this is how your party thinks they can win friends and influence people, no wonder they are so far down in the tank. This kind of response make you look very small.
You are right... they are upset because they are in a losing battle too, and sm
also what you said is 100 percednt correct. Bullying cowards.

LOL I'm good at losing my temper too. n/m

They ARE dying. They're losing every one of them.
.
You are right about the trash talk losing
all the trash talk from the biased liberal media trying with all their might to destroy individuals, politically and personally. And all of you liberals still cannot give it up, trash talk anyone who has any moral values at all. Try to trash talk everyone who does not want our whole world to be generic.
i would be the one losing my ACTUAL HOME
UNFORTUNATELY, I TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and i pay my mortgage, even if i was one of the ones that they should not have given a loan to. and i have an ARM, and an interest only loan, which i pay more to each month, etc. etc.... BUT if i was in default, maybe i'd get some help...

and you cannot deny that Clinton put this into action
and that McCain or Bush did not foresee it and ask for an overhaul.
no matter who is at fault WHO IS THE ONE THAT TRIED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT LONG BEFORE THIS MESS???
You are confusing tyranny with losing

I don't think that we're losing interest...(sm)

The govt in Iran has really been cracking down on communications.  From what I understand (from news last night) they are confiscating computers, cell phones, etc.  Because of this, there just simply isn't as much news coming out of Iran.

From some acconts from yesterday it has been said that they started yielding axes (of all things) along with the clubs and tear gas, and threw at least one protester off a bridge.

However, there are still postings on YouTube daily of the brutality going on.

Yes, madam QA.....I will be sure I do so in the future...
pardon the heck out of me. :)
future wrongdoing

And since when can you predict the future? LMAO!!

Past and future
Stop dwelling in the PAST.
Look into the FUTURE.
The last past 8 years did not work for anybody.
What we need is change. REAL change.
Summon it up, we do not need
your pagelong lectures. Who has time for this?
The election is tomorrow, thanks God.
Go, Obama!
Thanks, GP, let's all have hope for a better future.....nm

If a brighter future ever comes your way
to recognize it.
I wish I was hopeful for the future.
I am actually not proud to be an American. I actually want to move to another country, maybe Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Ireland? US scares me now with all these human rights. I wish it was back in the 50's.
Hey, the palestinians have been fighting and LOSING. They've been given every

opportunity to coexist peacefully, to have their own state, their own government --- THEY CHOSE TO FIGHT!

And Israel has offered up land that is rightfully theirs only to have the palestinians kill their innocents with suicide bombers.

'stop betting......you're losing.....
I've paid taxes all my life - federal, state, city, sales, property - I contribute to the greater good. I also have organized charity for families and painted and nailed and laid carpet and tile in poverty stricken homes when I barely had a pot to piss in myself - that was my Christmas gift to my children. I have donated to veteran's halfway houses when I was only making $5.30 an hour - so keep betting on 3-legged horses. I moved in with my parents and took care of my father who was dying while working full-time as a supervisor several states away (thankfully, my employer was cooperative). I always GIVE to my community even when I have only my labor to give. I also donated to Obama's campaign and went door-to-door handing out pamphlets in an attempt to wrench this country from the greedy grasp of the heathen right. AND, WE were successful. So, while the current socialist party inhouse is passing out the last of China's loans to the banks - Obama's team will have a fine time trying to shovel us back to prosperity. You think you are paying too much in taxes now? Since we have the worst unemployment rate since 1945 - I do believe you will be seeing a whole lot more being spent to try to save the citizens of this country and through sheer stubborn ignorance - you will blame Obama instead of the reichwing neo-cons who put us in this position in the first place. All of this impacts our lesser fortunate - the mentally ill and the disabled. Jobs won't go to them. Wait a minute. What jobs?
Maybe not but our future could have started 5-1/2 years ago.

Bush's policies in all areas are making it look pretty bleak.

It is nice to look to the future and not the past.
You are quite wrong about my stance on Vietnam. Don't make the presumption that you know me at all.

One thing that I do know is that you cannot change the past. You want to bog yourself down with useless information knock yourself out. Our government tends to not pay attention to those details of the past in the way they operate today. If they did, Bush would have never invaded Iraq. Perhaps you are making your speeches to the wrong audience? You will never convince a liberal that war is just.

As I have stated before, I am strictly anti-war, no matter who, what, where, and why. War does nothing but fund hate and line pockets of men who profit from them and kills the innocent as an after thought, and it's excused because, hey, that's war isn't it?

The longer our troops stay in Iraq, the more hate it is going to foster. This military pseudo occupation has to stop and the humanitarian effort needs to start, period.

Or better yet, why don't you go there and explain to the Iraqi people and our military men and women who are doing their fourth or fifth tour and tell them why they are still there. There's your audience, try and convince them.

And this makes any wrongdoing in the future okay???

OH BROTHER.

Sorry, Moderator...I will be more careful in the future.
Thank you for deleting it, thereby letting me know it was inappropriate. Again, I apologize.
Exactly, you don't equate future president with

"I am sorry your future is so dark and meaningless"

O was elected the future president, so....sm
the only thing that we can do NOW is sit back and WAIT for O's actions.

But give him ROOM FOR ACTION, without criticizing every little decision.

You know, he IS the future president, time to accept it and, as Kaydie's father states, to adapt to it.
John McCain's future

After seeing Cindy smooching some biker dude, maybe John should check in at home more often.

the future of imported items
anything imported, which is basically everything will cost more next year or will simply be unavailable. Manufacturing orders are down for China, inventories are shrinking at retail stores. Even Wal-Mart is cutting back on inventories. I was in a Super Walmart the other day and one half of the store was full, the grocery and clothes half. The rest of the store was abandoned.
AIG/Future of American Healthcare

I've written a few times on this board that I think employers and insurance companies should be completely taken out of the picture when it comes to healthcare, that our very lives shouldn't be profit-driven commodities.

In my opinion, what's happening at AIG with greedy executives gives us a window into what could happen again (or probably already is happening) with health insurance companies.

I did a quick Google search and found the following two articles that address this.  The first link is more current and probably the better of the two links, but the second is worth reading, as well.  There may be better ones out there, but I didn't have much time to do my search, and these are two that caught my attention.  If you find others, please post them.

It seems to me that before a new healthcare plan is implemented for Americans, we need to insure (no pun) that greedy executives can never do this again to Americans, particularly if our very ability to live or die lies in the balance.

I plan on writing my Congressman and Senator.  I DON'T plan on having my concerns taken seriously (or even being read, for that matter).

Can you imagine -- just for a moment -- how much money could be saved by eliminating the profit factor in healthcare?  It might just pay for a new healthcare care system itself, or at least put a big dent into the cost of one.

Doesn't matter - my 401K is losing an average of $3K
per DAY. Not per week, per DAY. If the loss continues at this rate, it will hit a zero balance and I'll have nuthin' to lose. So I'm voting for Obama, cuz I sure as he11 don't want that old Republican prune taxing my HEALTH CARE next.
