I am a bright blue dot in a red state. I live in TN. Yeah, I would love to move, but there are extenuating circumstances that preclude that. So, while the rest of the country is experiencing problems with home values going down, the value of my house has supposedly gone up. Yeah right. (I just received the latest property assessment.) No improvements have been made over the last year and nothing in the neighborhood has changed other than the fact that the condos across the street are now being rented out instead of being sold (which should actually bring the value down). (They reevaluate the value of your property every year here.) The bottom line is that my property tax will go up for the 4th year in a row. Nope....those pubs don't believe in raising taxes that would go to the federal government. They would obviously much prefer to take our money and keep it close to their hearts. This would be the same group of people who decided that TN didn't need Medicaid and instead established TennCare - a state run heath program. Since this change, benefits have drastically been reduced, and many people who would normally be eligible for Medicaid are now not eligible for TennCare because....surprise...they are out of money. I wonder where that extra money I spent paying property taxes last year went.

LETTER FROM THE BOSS.....
As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our President, and that our taxes, and government fees will ncrease in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, our prices would have to increase by about 10%.
Since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off six of our employees instead. This has really been bothering me, since I believe we are family here and I didn't know how to choose who would have to go.
So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lot and found six Obama bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folkswill be the ones to let go. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. They voted for change; I gave it to them.
I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic.

First of all......GM cars are not
crappy cars. I've had several GM vehicles that I've run the wheels off of. My whole family buys nothing but GM vehicles and we all prefer them over other vehicles. Secondly, the reason GM started to build bigger vehicles that used more gas was because gas wasn't so expensive then and that is what the consumers wanted was bigger SUVs, trucks, etc. People didn't start to complain until gas prices went through the roof.
GM was fine until the economy took a crap. When the economy was booming they could afford big salaries for CEOs and paying the union loads of money, etc. They could afford the legacy costs, health care, and pensions. Now since no dealer is having much luck selling vehicles, it is kind of hard to pay for all those expenses when people can't buy vehicles, are too afraid to buy vehicles, or are dumb enough to buy foreign pieces of crap instead.
A mental institution? Nope.

off the subject of gyno and onto mental health -
In Georgia, my 16 year old son decided he wanted to kill himself (not really, it was a power struggle between me and him whether he could go to his girlfriend's house that day). Well, my mother went to where he was and took him to the ER. I went to the hospital and because my 16 year old son said he did not want to see me and that I did not have custody of him, they had the police escort me out of the hospital (after asking me to sign the financial forms). I did not sign anything and left the hospital.
I came back to my home, got my custody papers, went back to the hospital whereupon I found out he had been transferred to another facility. They refused to tell me where they sent him because they said they had already talked to a guardian (not true, my father happened to be in the ER visiting someone else and saw my son sitting in the examination room and was there when they transferred him).
However, I am now being sued by 2 different hospitals for around $10,000 because I am the parent that lives at the address my son put on his paperwork. My exhusband, where my son actually did live is not being sued. They told me I would have to get my half of the money back from him.
The law protects minors!

I type for a local mental hospital
and I go in and get the tapes and bring them home. They don't use a big company for their transcription. I do this as a side job actually. The pay is much better than a big MT company as well. I enjoy typing those type of reports as well.
Foreign cars are not better or cheaper.
If they are cheaper it is because they are literally that....cheaper cars. You pay for what you get. I've seen so many American made cars throughout my family where they have put 200,000+ miles on vehicles and they keep going. I've driven so many different types of vehicles since my husband runs a car dealership and I have to say that American trumps foreign any day in my opinion. I will NEVER own a foreign car. Ain't happenin. You will more than likely see my happy butt in a Chevy of some type. I'm currently driving a Chevy Uplander and I friggin LOVE it! I have no problem telling someone their vehicle is a foreign piece of crap. In fact, I recently told my best friend's sister that was what her Honda was. LOL!

Toyota and Honda build cars in the USA
Didn't you know that? They have been here for years. Do you hear them begging for a bailout? Nope. Because they build decent cars.
The 3 big ones didn't bother to take heed during the last gas crunch and didn't learn a dang thing. If they did, we would have good cars now. GM built a good motor; the V6 3 liter engine. Our Old's Delta 98 (big luxury car) V6 got 30 MPH. Our Buick LeSabre gets 28 MPH. Why didn't they put those engines in all their cars?
Because the AMERICAN PEOPLE wanted big, bad SUVs and V8 engines. So...if you want to sell cars, you build what people want.
Just like political arena, as soon as something goes wrong in America, they blame the president. As soon as high gas prices hit, they blamed the car companies and turn their backs on them and now they're in a mess. BUT, it doesn't mean they shouldn't have been working on alternate energy cars. Prius, made by Toyota, has been out for a few years now; 48 MPH. Can't buy one now because that's what everybody wants. Yet when they first came out, hardly any takers.
So, it's not all the fault of the president or car companies. Think about it.
Stop importing foreign cars won't help a bit
People in this country want them because they get better gas mileage. Like I said before, Toyota has plants here in America and they are doing good.
The problem with the big 3 is they sat back and forgot about the past (1970s gas crunch), not into the future. They got a winner with those big SUVs and decided, "Hey, let's concentrate on all the big SUVs, big V8s, etc. That's what the American people want" and they did want them.
Car dealers are falling by the wayside in large numbers because of the problems, too. Lots of them are closing because they can't hang on any longer.
People have been buying foreign cars
for years. What does that have to do with losing our jobs due to fewer patient visits to doctors or hospitals? Actually, a lot of so-called American-made cars are made in Mexico, like the PT Cruiser. In fact, a lot of cars are made in Mexico because of cheap labor, including VW.

I agree that we need to buy American made products, in particular cars...
but that entails the idea that we can make cars just as affordable as foreign companies. Right now we have the same problem here as we do with the oil industry. Huge tax breaks for foreign industry and we can't compete.

and no more credit, bad debts and loans killed the economy and Wall Street. Just providing for our 3 kids and making ends meet is the daily challenge, but we have each other and a good extended family, I so hope that the good thing that comes out of this crisis is LESS MATERIALISM in this country, back to simpler living and being happy with less!

I have had 2 Ford's in my life, my husband has had one and they are most reliable cars ever..the same goes for Chrysler and GM...I happen to live in Ohio where we have Ford, Chrysler and GM within a 20-mile radius of my house...it is sad because it is really affecting the economy around here with them closing...I for one would never buy a foreign car...My Dad retired from Chrysler and my Grandfather retired from Ford...

Thanks to affirmative action, white heterosexual males cannot get jobs especially when competing with a person classified as a minority. Mintorities get college scholarships and acceptance into good schools so universities can meet their quota. It's ridiculous! There is a black man in the White House --- I think affirmative action has done its job!
It's time for everyone, no matter their race, be treated equally. The best PERSON for the job should get the job. The best student with the best transcipts should get the admission letter and scholarship. There shouldn't be quotas to fill. NOBODY should get preferential treatment anymore!

I don't see her encouraging Obama to do town hall meetings with McCain...and after 18 months running for the #1 seat, he just this past month sat down with someone who was not in the tank for his candidacy. Vouchers would serve to level the playing field for those of us whose children's schools have gone down the tube thanks to the influx of "at risk youth" (probably the most overused term in existence).
When a public school gets a FAILING grade on their 'no child left behind' (another bogus waste of taxpayer money) progress scores, those kids are allowed to transfer to another school.
Then guess what happens. The school all those inner-city kids are bussed to gets a FAILING grade the next year. So, it's a big fat wad of BS that 'at risk' youths are 'at risk' because they don't have ACCESS to a decent education. From my personal experience, and those of hundreds of thousands of other moms around the country, they simply drag the good school down to their level.
My daughter used to go to an A-rated public high school. Then the 'ghetto school' (the name the STUDENTS called it, so don't rip on me about it) failed for its fourth year and all these 'students' were shoved into the A-school. I guess someone thought they weren't getting their fair shake, and all that was needed was to put them in the 'good' school.
I'm sure you know what happened. That first year, there were countless disruptions for weapons on campus, drug activity skyrocketed, the campus became a 'lock-down' school where all kids' backpacks were searched, teen pregnancies went through the roof (on purpose, which makes me sick) and the students' grades plummeted. The A-school subsequently received Fs each consecutive year.
The kids who ruined their own school didn't give half a drip about learning anything. They slacked off in the back of the class, mouthed off to the teachers, and made it impossible for anyone to learn anything, as the teachers became wardens rather than instructors to deal with the disrespectful little delinquents.
My daughter is now home-schooled. Yet I still have to pay income tax and county 'school tax' for the little monsters who invaded it and ran it into the ground.
And it has nothing to do with color, before you get all high and mighty on me. My daughter's school was a pretty even mix of Black, Caucasian, and Hispanic before AND after the forced bussing. It's about the 'culture' of the kids that came in. To them, hip-hop culture is the only way to live. Gangstas and ho's - that's the ultimate career goal in their minds.
So let's not pretend that vouchers are undesirable. That's a fat, steaming pile of B.S.

There are millions of people who were not "sucked" into buying more house than they could afford. Unfortunately, many people got greedy and bit off more than they could chew. It is very easy to blame someone else for your bad judgment, but the bottom line is that you have to take responsibility for your own actions. Smoke that!
