were not the Democrat leadership, like comittee chairs, who voted no. It was not rank and file members who voted no for the most part. There may be democrats who are against it, would not surprise me. I don't know if they are contacting their reps or not; the Dems are not saying so if they are. Republicans who voted no said their constituents were like 99 to 1 against it. All of the Republican leadership voted for it. I honestly think the Democrats just don't want to go on the record voting in the majority for the "Bush plan" and then have it fail. That is something they really do not want. If a majority of Republicans vote for it too...then they can spread the blame.
That is my take on it...based on how many of the democrat leadership voted no. Not wanting to start a fight either.
Unfortunately, while I hate the idea of this, I think it has gone too far and is necessary. Not to "bail out" wall street, but if they don't unfreeze credit lines and the like businesses are going to start failing like crazy. And they can't do that without this plan or some sort of plan.
