In Reply to: How is it dishonest to qualify for food stamps? - Amanda

you should read this a little slower so you actually get it this time.  Welfare and government assistance programs are supposed to be a hand up and not a hand out.  They are supposed to assist people.  I'm sure people don't live the grand life mooching off of the government, but there certainly seems to be a lot of them who would rather receive those food stamps than actually work for the money to buy their groceries.  Whether or not they qualify, doesn't mean they deserve food stamps.  The problem with our government is that they kick people when they are down.  Like your friend who cannot work, instead of seriously helping him because he cannot work, they are instead giving the food stamps to the guy who refuses to work.  Now how is that fair?  That is that problem I have.....right there and you refuse to see that.  How many times have I seen people on disability who could really work and others who can't work at all but have trouble getting disability.

I knew a guy who received government disability because of a back injury he received while in the military.  Guess what he did on the weekends.  He was involved with a local wrestling group.  He could wrestle for fun but he was receiving disability from the goverment.  Are you kidding me?  This is the problem I have.  People who do not deserve the assistance and could do for themselves but won't.  Once again, if we could weed out the moochers and dishonest people, think how much money we would have to go to the people who really are trying and need assistance.

Another problem with government assistance is that it is like they want to keep you down.  If you get a second job to try to make ends meet, government will take away your assistance and you were right back to square one.  So you can either go ahead and take that job and still not have enough money or you not take the job and continue getting government assistance.  What do you think people are going to choose?  Why get a second job and still not get ahead when you can continue to get government assistance.

I'm sorry, but I do get sick and tired of seeing a large family in the store filling their carts full of junk and paying for them with food stamps.  I'm tired of seeing morbidly obese people riding those electric carts and can't work because they are too fat and they fill their carts full of junk food and pay for it with food stamps.  I'm sick and tired of paying disability for people who can't work because they would much rather drink too much alcohol and/or takes drugs.  Why should I support someone's habit?

My point is that even if people qualify for these programs....doesn't mean they deserve them and THAT is the problem.  Yet some of you people continue to see me as heartless and refuse to hear what I'm saying.  I have no problem helping people who are truly trying and need the help.  The ones who are just mooching and can work but won't or they have drug/alcohol issues......they shouldn't receive jack schitt if you ask me.  Also, if you are an illegal alien.....you shouldn't receive a cent of assistance.
