My whole point was that the UK is not the country to talk about banning "extreme" ideas. They're loaded with extremists yammering on every street corner and advocating violent jihad.

How wrong can one person be?....sm
Well, for years I only posted on company or word board because I would see the postings popping up here and although I love political science and care about the country/world/planet, I thought so many of the posts were ugly, vicious personal attacks over nothing, childish vendettas against certain posters, etc., and I personally have enough crap to deal with in my own life, don't need to look for more. But I cautiously stepped in. I stupidly thought you could speak your mind, be honest, and have adult discussions that were fair and based on the issues, not personal attacks, not popurarity contests, etc. HOW WRONG I WAS . I have tried to be fair, have supported both sides and in the middle whenever I believed in a point, as I thought everyone else was, wrong again. Well, when a "diversion" like this is no longer enjoyable, a learning process, etc., it's time to sign off. I have loved "speaking" with many of you, and thanks for that. But wow, I will go back to concentrating on my job and family and leave this board to the very brave, and also those who love to attack, ridicule, make everything personal, etc. God bless those of you who remain, and I sincerely mean that. And also realize that my leaving or staying does not mean a thing, no I do know that I am not important, just liked joining in for a while.
What does a person who feels the war is wrong do then? sm
Sit quietly until the war is over, because attempting civil debate with people who are not trying to hear what you have to say is not working.
You have lied to the wrong person here.
someone who has familiarity with the Quran, please cite the verses (ayat) and chapters (sura) where you find this information. Do not cite rightwing blogs or hate chambers.
There are so many ways to expose your ignorance here, it is hard to know where to start. Here's a clue for you. There is a distinction in the Quran between Believers (Muslims), People of the Book (Dhimmi), Disbelievers (Kafiroon) and Infidels (Kaafir). You general term of "non-Muslims" applied to the second group....the People of the Book. Bottom line here is that the Quran teaches tolerance and respect for Dhimmi. Not unlike the Christian Bible, it is also riddled with contractions and passages can be found where adversarial relationships are described.
I have lived in a Muslim country. I was treated with nothing but respect, kindness, friendship and hospitality. My sister has lived in a Muslim country for 14 years now. She has enjoyed the same experience.
The only hatemongering going on here is spewing from your own mouth. Whatever it is you have been reading or watching is making a liar out of you. If you care, do something about it. If not, then bone up on your own Holy Book and check out what the Bible has to say about the liars and give it some careful consideration.
I think you are ticked off at the wrong person -
You obviously did not read your own article. This mess cannot be blamed on Obama, and the writer points that out. Obama is only doing what we basically said do - don't let them fail at any cost! How many times did you all say they cannot be allowed to fail? How many people said that we had to do something because it would destroy America?
Something had to be done and Obama is going to be the scapegoat again even though is just finishing up what the previous admnistration started...
I don't hate her so maybe wrong person to answer
but, I don't think she was the most qualified person McCain could have found out of the whole Republican Party. I also thought Lieberman was his personal choice but McCain was talked out of it?? I voted for McCain in 2000 in the primary, but won't vote for him this time because I am not convinced he will live out his term, and I don't want her as president. Every president ages drastically during their term, and he already seems old to me. Look at Bush, he looks much more than 8 years older.
My views on abortion, stem cell research, etc., do not jibe with hers. I have a 3YO nephew diagnosed at 14 months with juvenile diabetes so stem cell is a big issue with me. I don't want someone with her conservative views appointing Supreme Court justices.
Another reason I don't want her as VP or potential VP is because of her husband. They remind me of Bill and Hilary. He seems too involved in her governing business. I don't want a repeat of co-presidents or co Vice-presidents if you will. He should stay home and take care of the kids and let her govern.
In summary then, I would say I don't want her because her views are too conservative to me and I am afraid McCain will not live out presidency and she would be #1. And I do not want a repeat of The Bill and Hill show.
Please don't blast me. You asked for my opinion. If you disagree, fine.
So what you're saying is a black person couldn't possible

Good grief! You're a rude, bitter person.

You're wrong...
Everybody is innocent until proven guilt for me. That's the American way. I'm not picking and choosing who suits me to be guilty or innocent. As for somebody's life being in jeopardy, that's isn't even mentioned in the indictment. In fact, it may be that the woman wasn't outed at all, being that she pushed paper at a desk and everybody and his cousin knew where she worked. I think this is either payback for the Ken Starr investigation or an attempt to park a dark cloud of suspicion over the White House, being that even with everything that is going wrong the polls show that 44% of the country would vote for a Democrat and 44% of the country would vote for a Republican if an election were held today. The Democrats have no solutions, so they try to discredit the Republicans so that they'll at least get a vote against the Reblicans to put them back in the White House.
Actually, you're wrong about that.
See link. Some people believe anything they are told, I guess.

nm
Oh, you're quite wrong.
I would have replied exactly as I did whatever your gender. I might have substituted "Bub" for "my dear", but that makes no difference.
Trying to portray yourself as the poor widdle victim of misogynistic meanies is no different from someone misplaying the race card in order to deflect unpleasant truths.
Grow up.
Yup. You're wrong.
If they put up a statue to that pathetic joke, AL Gore, "inventor of the Internet" and "Chicken-Little of Global Warming (NOT!)", then I want to be a pigeon. And incidentally, I'd like the honor of being the first one.
Take your judgments and take a hike.
I agree with you and yet I'm still wrong. You're only here..sm
for a fight and you know it. Even when I agree you still are in attack mode.
Please show some accountability and show me where I said you mentioned this administration. I said we may never see eye to eye on the administration and from your vicious attacks here on the liberal board gives me the impression that you see nothing wrong in Iraq, but that we are not sending care packages. That's been your main argument here.
You are the one imagining things. You cant even grasp the fact that a liberal (myself) was actually agreeing with you about the care packages, so you had to turn it all around and start the argument that I shouldn't send anything. You have a lot of anger in you and it's not my fault. I'm sorry my dear, I can not separate the fact that our soldiers need care packages from the administration that sent them to war, but they need them nonetheless. Like I said I will do whatever my heart leads me to do, and you and YOUR bitterness will have no say in the matter.
pssst...you're both wrong, too bad.
That's what happens when you swallow your bait whole on Faux News! By now everyone should know that Sheehan was never even asked to zip up her jacket and stated that if she had been, she would have done so without any problem.
Also, it was revealed several days later that there is NO law against wearing shirts with statements or political messages at the SOTU. The Capitol police have apologized for their mistake. Right.
So, turns out that Sheehan (who Bush just happens not to like)did nothing more than accept an invitation, wear a preferred shirt and show up in her assigned seat. All the silly nonsense about unfurling a banner or refusing to cooperate with police or being a nuisance was no more than lies spread by the very people who are constitutionally incapable of telling the truth, cowards afraid to be in the presence of anyone who disagrees with them, even if that person is totally silent - and they will break, bend, twist and contort the law in any way they can to avoid having the truth look them in the eye.
Unfortunately, they have too many Americans duped into believing and repeating their nasty little memes every time they are vomited out.
Nope you're wrong
I haven't posted here in quite a while. And as I said, there are apparently quite a few others that post here. When some of us see your posts deteriorate into bullying and name-calling we speak up about it. It's as simple as that.
I think you're numbers are wrong. The top 5% of
the U.S. makes millions and billions. $200,000 is NOT the 'top 5%' of the country. It's definitely more than a single, head-of-household MT makes, but depending on where you live, it won't put you in that mansion on the hill, either.
When he talks about raising taxes on the top 5%, he's not talking about YOU. He's talking about people like Bill Gates. He's talking about huge corporations (like the oil industry, tobacco industry, HMO & insurance industries, etc.) that rake it in, and then have a jillion and a half loopholes and secret cubbyholes to stash it in.
You're in the wrong place s/m
If you want an objective, nonbiased opinion don't expect to find it on this forum. Read the ridiculous stuff aimed at ditzing Obama. Ridiculous. My suggestion is to watch the candidates as much as possible and listen carefully to what they say. You can also usually find video clips of their stump speeches, etc. on Yahoo. Don't depend on anyone to make up your mind for you, do your research and vote your conscience. That's the best I have to offer. No use being reduced to tears.
you're talking to the wrong sm --
You're Wrong, Kendra
We didn't invade Iraq because "Saddam Hussein was well on his way to becoming another Hitler." You have no idea what you're talking about, Kendra. We invaded Iraq because of a pack of filthy lies by a pack of filthy liars who lied about WMDs and yellowcake uranium, and the list goes on and on and on....
"Fighting a little on other soil." Nice turn of phrase, Kendra. How about 4243 American military personnel killed since Bush's war began? How about somewhere over 90,000 Iraqi civilian casualties since Bush's war began? How many Iraqis participated in the 9/11 attacks, Kendra? ZERO. How is invading Iraq defending our way of life, Kendra? AL Qaeda in Iraq DIDN'T EXIST until Bush's war. How about a price tag of $3 TRILLION and counting, Kendra?
Anybody who claims to be against the cost of the stimulus bill while turning a blind eye to the human and monetary cost of Bush's war in Iraq is a hypocrite of the worst kind.

Guess we play by different rules down here. Ya'll come down and see us some time.
I don't know where you found your info, but here is info I found at this website under food stamps fact sheet: http://jfs.ohio.gov/families/food/index.stm
Doesn't say anything about being taxable or not and definitely does not specifically forbid soda.
What can be bought with food stamp benefits?
Food stamp benefits can be used to buy most food or food products intended for human consumption. Items which
may not be purchased with food stamps include alcoholic beverages, tobacco, hot food and hot food products
that are prepared to be eaten immediately. Individuals who receive food stamp benefits may not sell or trade food
stamp benefits, buy nonfood items or use food stamp benefits to buy food for someone who is not a member of
the household.
Ah, but you see, you're wrong again. (Are you masochistic or something?)
LOADS of folks on the forum get my humor (for instance, please read the testimonials posted by my mother and sister - both of whom are of the female persuasion) - among others. I'm putting them into a scrapbook.
...and I think you meant "THERE you sit", since I checked and didn't find you hiding under my desk. Wait, though. I forgot about the trash basket.
Excuse me, but I think you're wrong. (sm)
Those who hate JTBB and continously nip at her heels like pesky, rabid chihuahuas are allowed to communicate with her in any manner they choose, the more hate filled, the better.
It's those posters who try to be polite, those posters who understand and (God forbid) AGREE with JTBB who aren't welcome here.
What I usually come away with after reading one of JTBB's posts is an opinion with a very well thought-out opinion borne from a lot of research.
She's one of the fairest minded and intelligent people to post on this board, in my opinion, and for having that opinion, I'm sure the fire will be aimed in my direction for having the unmitigated gall to say something NICE about her, when only the most hateful insults towards JTBB are tolerated here.
P.S. to the person who demands how everyone communicates on this board: JTBB is being singled out by a person who is interested in discussion of issues and isn't interested in bashing, insulting and bullying. There are very few, if any, on this board who fit that profile.
You're on the wrong board, aren't you?
Twist away, the truth is out there. Sam's right. You're wrong. nm

people, mostly young, were bamboozled.
"We" did not do the righ thing...
Unless you like total government control, and social medicine, and social economics.....
We may never recover from President Obama, at least not in my lifetime.
I did not vote for him. I wish him well, but his choices as he is leading up to his inauguration do not bode well for our country on a whole, especially our children and grandchildren.
Libs refuse to call it socialism.
But that's what we're putting into office.
Bush opened the door a crack.
Obama intends to play on our fears and take full advantage of them.
Maybe when all your rights are gone, when govt has total control over your healthcare, your mortgage, your loans, your 401K....maybe then, you will understand what is happening right under your nose, and finally see what you have lost.

The barn door is wide open, and the winner take all (Obama). "Never let a good crisis go to waste" as his team has recently stated.
He has, and will, take full advantage of our fears, as even he, Obama, was the fear monger today.

I responded to the challenge in the OP.
I have responded to this by adding comments to each item. Don't need to check my facts. I already researched my points the first time around. I put them out there the way I see it. Items 1 through 8 occurred prior to 1995 under a democratic majority Congress. Number 9 was a cooperative international initiative that played out in UN International Tribunal and did not involve direct participation by the US congress. A lengthy explanation by way of disclaimer appears in #10. Numbers 11 and 13 have no comment as I am certain the republicans would like to take all the credit for those. Bill Clinton went against his own party's best efforts to oppose numbers 11 and 13 and did employ line vetoes to them or otherwise obstruct these laws. He signed them into law. That's all I was trying to say, in response to the challenge from the original poster
1. Family and Medical Leave Act.
2. Established web-based information and communication systems in the White House, federal agencies, US Courts and military.
3. Brady Bill requiring background checks on handgun purchase.
4. Expansion of earned income credit.
5. Balanced the budget.
6. Cut taxes for low-income families.
7. Cut taxes for small business.
8. Restricted government spending.
9. In cooperation with NATO, Slobodan Milosevic convicted for crimes against humanity for ethnic cleansing in the former Yugoslavian Republic.
10. Communications Decency Act to regulate pornography on the Internet.
11. Welfare reform.
12. Increased minimum wage.
Defense of Marriage Act (right-wingers ought to love that one).
13. Maintained high approval ratings throughout his presidency, leaving office with record-breaking 73% approval ratings IN SPITE OF unsuccessful impeachment proceedings.
14. Booming economy.
15. Creation of $559 billion budget surplus.
So what exactly are you trying to say…that Bill Clinton had absolutely nothing to do with any legislative initiatives that transpired after the so-called Republican revolution in 1995? Looks like trying to hog the spotlight to me.
yea, I'm sure the poster that responded to me . . .
tattled on me, so that explains that :>(
I know how you feel. Responded to GP's
poll about why voting for McCain and had my response dissected because obviously GP didn't like one of my reasons for why I'm voting the way I am.
I responded to the OP post above. (sm)
I think the most immediate and urgent problem facing us is the economy.
All the "experts" have been wrong about this so far. As I said, Paulson can't even stay on the same page HE WROTE. The only people, so far, who are benefiting from the trillion dollar bailout are the richest of the rich. The government is buying banks (isn't that fascism?).
If we are truly headed for the next "Great Depression," then there is literally not one person who is alive who had the "experience" to handle the last depression that could be brought to help with the current one.
I truly hope your feeling that Obama would rule with an "iron fist in the velvet glove" is correct, and for now that's pretty much all I can hope for. Only time will tell, I guess. I just keep getting a very gloomy feeling about the future, and I fear that something very, VERY bad is going to happen very, VERY soon -- within months, not years.
I was curious if anyone responded
My computer crashed and I've been offline for a couple days. (Talk about totally lost). There are so many great quotes of our founding fathers. Their dreams, hopes and everything they worked for to build a great country is being destroyed. It's just all very sad. They sacrificed so much and some lost everything and people don't seem to care.
Thank you for responding to my message. Don't ask where I found that quote though cos I lost everything in the crash. Although thinking about that now maybe it was a good thing. HA HA HA.
Maybe this will clarify why ND responded that way.

The copout was saying because no one responded to your post about Wright...
that there must be nothing to it. THAT is a copout. I didn't say anything about any of the other stuff you posted here. As to being tortured for 7 years, electing to stay when you could have been released and not have to endure years more...simply because you felt other men deserved to be released before you? That is the strength of character and devotion to country the Presidency has not seen in YEARS and is SORELY needed. I would have thought YOU would have appreciated that.
yes, the first person did....the person replying to that post...
was talking about the founding fathers...who came along a long time after the witch trials. You replied to the second post, not the first one. I was replying to you based on that. Purtianism came first...Christianity was the religion practiced by the founding fathers. It is evident in their writings and in most of our original documents.
I think we can stop whipping this dead horse now.
If you go back and reread the post gt posted about Laura I responded to that. sm
And, if you were following what I was saying I was talking about the posts on the neocon board between Nan, AG and the Nameless Trolls.
