the illegals did work at a lower price than Americans would. But now, they are actually paid quite well, just no taxes, which makes it cheaper for the employer. If you go to a Home Depot in California for a day laborer, they do not offer their services cheap, especially for someone who is not licensed or bonded. What I am afraid is that they have become so integrated into our society that it is really too late and it is no longer that they are doing jobs that we won't do. Plus, they send a good portion of the money that they make out of the country, which hurts our economy. I understand that all of these are generalizations and, of course, not applicable to everyone, but that is my take on the problem.
I am sorry for your predicament. I must say that I am lucky enough to actually have an increased work load, but I only work part time for supplemental income and understand that we could NEVER survive on what I make alone.
