I think that's a great idea, Democrat.

I wonder how many would check off the Iraq war box!

With all due respect, Democrat, you have no idea whether the drive by posters sm
who post anonymously on the conservative board are not some who post here regularly. You just don't know that.  None of us (unless we are friends on the outside) know that about any of us.  So that's a little disingenuous.  Sometimes, I have sure felt like changing my initials to avoid posters who constantly slam me.  But I have found a better place to post.  Just dropped over for the day.  Have a good one.
Great idea. BTW,
nm
Oh I think that's a great idea
Great idea -

Make everyone's name known who votes for Obama and who votes for McCain (this board goes to show people will admit in public who they vote for), so once you have the list of names for everyone who votes for Obama, only their taxes get raised, for they deserve what they get. Leave the rest of us alone.

I think it is a great idea.
We need the best, most talented people in cabinet positions, not just the best partisans or the best friends or people who are owed favors.

This is one thing I like about Obama. He listens to people with varying opinions who are knowledgeable about a subject, not just those that agree his initial opinion.
That would be a great idea, but who

would audit them all? Man, that job would take forever and a day. I certainly would like to see it happen, but I think it's wishful thinking. I guarantee (sp), though, that most of them would be running scared.

I see this picture in my mind that this audit would be done and all of a sudden we have a budget surplus.

Great idea
nm
Great posts DW and lib democrat!

Exactly, how could everyone be expected to attend college and get a degree just like that?  That's just not realistic.  People need to work and pay their bills, and if they go to college, the tuition may well be the biggest bill of all!  The college plan would work for some, of course, but not for all!

And I have been worried for awhile about our middle class disappearing in this country, but I didn't know Greenspan actually said that, so I'm glad you posted that!

Great idea, with just one addition:

Those who insist on not using the new board for its purpose and instead continue to do what they've been doing should receive some sort of sanction, maybe permanent banning, I don't know.

It seems another problem is that when THEY say something, it's not bashing, whereas ANYTHING we say is bashing as far as they're concerned.  I truly believe that a few misguided souls on this board truly don't believe they are doing anything wrong.  They are incapable of being objective, feel everything they say is fine, and if someone gets fed up and gives them a taste of their own medicine, they claim they're being attacked.

You could be the Virgin Mary incarnate, and if you dare to express your honest opinion on this board and do not blindly follow and worship Bush, then you're automatically a vile person.  Some days ago, Democrat invited one of them to offer a topic for debate, but that has yet to happen. Instead, the poster has, 100% of the time, chosen to bash other posters.

It's a great idea, GT, but the more I think about it, they aren't happy unless they can disrupt others who try to pursue intelligent, worthwhile, tolerant discussion.  They tell us to leave the conservative board and stay on our own board, and when we do and there isn't any more fighting on their board, they come here and start because they HAVE to have their fix of liberal bashing for the day.  The more I see it, the more it looks like a sick, twisted addiction.

I've made a list, and, unfortunately, it seems to be growing every day.  The ones who only want to insult and bash don't get a response from me any more.  In fact, I've stopped reading their posts because I already know it's more bashing, so it's a huge waste of time.

As far as ownership of the board, there just might be a new owner, because they no longer seem to favor one group of posters over another group as much, as seemed to be the case before.

But, hey, I'd love to be able to discuss issues in a friendly, respectful manner, and I'm in favor of anything that could promote that!

Great idea, Lurker.
weren't any responses at the other board? As you say, they were/are gung ho about the war. Could it be some soldiers get more support than others? Would they be so supportive of these soldiers as well?

Immigrant Soldiers
by Chaleampon Ritthichai
01 May 2003

Even though his coffin was draped with the American flag, U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Riayan Tejeda, 26, was not a U.S.citizen. Tejeda, who was killed in combat in Iraq, was a native of the Dominican Republic.

Eight years ago he joined the Marines after graduating from George Washington High School.

“I hope the United States will remember that my son died for this country,” his father Julio Tejada told Newsday.

Tejeda’s death has brought attention to stories of immigrants who fought for the U.S. military throughout history and the current controversy over their immigration status.

For immigrants, joining the military could lead to a faster track to citizenship, which allows them and their immediate family to reap the same benefits as native-born U.S. citizens.

In early 1990s, immigrant soldiers became eligible for citizenship after three years of legal residency, two years less than civilians. More than 3,600 immigrant soldiers became U.S. citizens from 1994 to 1999.

Last July, President Bush signed an executive order that temporarily allows immigrant soldiers to apply for citizenship immediately. Nearly 5,500 military personnel applied and some already got their citizenships.

There is no law prohibiting illegal immigrants from joining in the army but the armed forces representative says anyone without proper documents is rejected, according to a report in the New York Times.

Tejeda and at least six other U.S. servicemen killed in the war in Iraq had not yet become citizens. Six of these immigrants were granted citizenship posthumously but their relatives did not receive the benefits that would normally go to the families of the citizens.

“It is an honorary status in commemoration of the valor and the sacrifices of the deceased,” the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services explained in the memo.

More than 36,000 service members are non-citizens, making up about 5 percent of active duty service members. About a third come from Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries and the rest are from China, Vietnam, Canada, Korea, India and other countries.

In New York City alone, 40 percent of Navy recruits were immigrants, 36 percent in the Marines and 27 percent in the Army.

Many are surprised by the number of non-citizens serving in the U.S. military but others say immigrants have always been a part of the military.

“Basically, both immigrants or non-citizens have served in the military since at least the Revolutionary war,” said University of Michigan Professor Cara Wong, who has been studying immigrants and war.

There were over 500,000 immigrants who fought in the Civil War. They were allowed to form their own units, elect their officers and speak their native tongues. “The Germans are true and patriotic,” said President Abraham Lincoln about the German immigrants volunteering to fight for the union army.

Some immigrant soldiers were even honored by the army for their bravery. During WWII Mexican born soldier Marcario Garcia, whose company was pinned down by the Nazis, fought his way out and, though wounded, was able to return with captured prisoners. Garcia was promoted to staff sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor.

“The distinction between legal and illegal immigrants was non-existent until well after the Civil War,” said professor Wong.

The situation of non-citizen soldiers has caught the eyes of lawmakers in Washington D.C. Some are introducing bills that would shorten the waiting period to two years for foreign-born soldiers and others even argue for immediate citizenship for all immigrants on active duty in the armed forces.

But that did not happen soon enough for Tejeda. At his funeral, hundreds of people gathered to honor him at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Washington.

“He may never have been made officially a citizen of our nation,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “But we are proud he was a citizen of New York.”

Spokesmen for Senator Charles Schumer and Representative Charles Rangel said that they are seeking citizenship posthumously for Tejada if his family desires.

An immigrant from Bangkok, Thailand, Chaleampon Ritthichai is the editor of The Citizen.
I have a great idea! I think the candidates should be...sm
hooked up to lie detectors during the debates.  Wouldn't that be interesting?
Very interesting,indeed, great idea! .. .
.
Hey, that sounds like a great idea,
us on our way. Oops, you wouldn't have a clue about morality, decency and common sense, though, Dem or Rep!
Great idea, Gourdpainter.

You're absolutely right about holding their feet to the fire, and writing to remind them of their promises and what we expect is a terrific idea.  Thank you for the link.

I wasn't anti-Bush until I began to see more clearly what he was really doing.  If I see the same things with Obama, I will probably be as anti-Obama as I am anti-Bush.  I'm registered "unaffiliated" because I owe no allegiance to ANY political party.

There is one thing, however, that leads me to believe Obama's presidency will be an exceptional one.  He is the first black (and white, though nobody sees that) President in history, so his burden is greater than any other President's.  If he does NOT do a good job, there won't ever be another opportunity for a second black President, just as if Hillary had won, her burden would have been greater, as well.

Either way, he made promises, and those promises are the reason I voted for him.

I've copied the link you provided to my "Favorites," and when I'm coherent enough (maybe three more cups of coffee), I, too, will send them a note.  Since this seems to be the campaign site, I hope they don't dismantle it too soon.  Thanks very much for posting it.

I LOVE IT!!!! WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! nm

Great! Now I can't get out of my mind the idea
of this being endlessly analyzed as sportscasters do a football instant replay, then a re-replay, ad infinitum.  Must write some dialog for it when I have time, unless someone else......?
Yeah, that's a great idea....(sm)

We could lower ourselves to their standards and become just like them.  How awesome would that be?  Just think, with actions like that we might even get that Crusade you guys have been pushing for.

Note:  Doing the same thing that terrorists do makes us just like them.  Just because we do it out of revenge or in a different name, does not make us any better than them.  Jihad...Crusade...both believe they are right, so you tell me the difference.

GREAT post, Lifelong Democrat!....nm

Sounds like a great idea, Backwards Typist

But gently, gently...don't want to accidentally hurt her.

(LOL...I get the idea that she'd be kickin' OUR butts instead!!!)

What a great idea. Let's try a click open, click shut

Great post, great insight, great analysis, thanks!..nm

Great, great post. Thank you, Marmann! nm

Thank you Democrat
you are right. I'm wasting my time here.
Well said, Democrat! Well said.

Applauding.

Thank you, Democrat
My fingers are crossed too, Democrat...I hope and pray for all of us that our country can repair itself..I have always been an optimist in life, until the last few years..Yes, I will think optimistically..with hope in my heart..Thank you for your post..you are so kind..
Same to you, Democrat!
Hope you had the best day ever!
Thanks, Democrat.
I've been following this case and have written to the Governor in protest.  Someone has to care about America's children.  It's obvious this particular judge doesn't.
Thanks, Democrat.

He raises some very interesting points, doesn't he?  I'm glad, too, that he wasn't fired.  I wish somebody like him (or he) WOULD run for President because I'd vote for him, as well.  After our invasion of Iraq, how DO other countries know they won't be next, and why wouldn't they want to protect themselves from an unwanted, uncalled-for American invasion?

We need someone who can straighten out America and make it a much better place and lead by example so other countries WANT to be like us, rather than having our form of *freedom* forced upon them.

No, actually that was DEMOCRAT.

You really need to stop obsessing on me, Nina.  You've made your hatred of me known, but it's starting to get spooky.  Please find another hobby.  You're beginning to resemble a stalker.

At the very least, you might want to scan the board before accusing me of saying things I didn't.  It will only take you a second, and you will appear to at least have some common sense and credibility if you do so.  Right now, I seem to be your target, and your hateful obsession is quite transparent.

Have a lovely day, dear.

Thank you Democrat..
I have been trying to make 2 points about Churchill for 2 days but it is like free association here. I get everything and the kitchen sink back. As far as Coulter, I was just putting an article out there that I thought was humorous (intended only for liberals as it knew it would offend others and even the heading  I posted  was attacked) and somehow that morphed into I am attacking Coulter and defending Churchill. Talk about pretzel logic. Again, thanks for actually reading my posts and actually understanding what I said.
Thanks, Democrat.

I hadn't read the part where they included the US troops in the mix.  What I read was that the Iraqi Prime Minister wanted amnesty only for terrorists who killed American soldiers and NO amnesty for terrorists who killed Iraqis.  I felt this was a slap in the face to America, and that's the precise reason I'm so outraged over this.

It's interesting that you said that's what you *make of it.*  Every time I've read something on this issue, I walked away just kind of scratching my head because I was unable to grasp an understanding of most of it.  Even the bill itself that was voted on yesterday did nothing but express the *sense* of the Congress regarding this issue.  How can it be so important to take up Senate time, including the debate and vote, when the end result is that they are EXPRESSING THEIR SENSE?  Seems like a big waste of time to me and lends even more credibility to Harold Ford's view that it was nothing but a stunt.

What I don't understand is why 19 Republican senators would publicly place themselves in the position of voting their *sense* that they were in favor of letting terrorists off the hook when it comes to killing our soldiers, given that the majority of Iraqis think it's okay to kill Americans.

I suppose some sense could be made of the reasoning behind it if we were dealing with terrorists/insurgents that could be trusted, but with 65% of the general Iraqi population thinking it's okay to kill Americans and 88% of the Sunni population believing so, I don't feel comfortable placing any trust in them.

Democrat
I do not and did not excuse Mark Foley. He was wrong. What I have a problem with, is the same people who ask for his head are the same people who excuse the same behavior in Democrats who have done the same thing. Barney Frank...male prostitution ring out of his apartment. Not sure all of them were of legal age. Representative Studd. Had a sexual relationship (not internet) with a 17-year-old page. Not only not apologized for it, but accused critics of gay bashing and that his relationship, with a 17-year-old, mind you...was consensual. These are Democrats, and Democrats did not ask for their heads. But they ask for Foley's head. I am not excusing ANY of them. I find it odd that Democrats do not recognize a pedophile when he is a Democrat, but recognize him when he is a Republican.

No, extramarital affairs are not illegal. PERJURY is. In all 50 states. I didn't hear any Democrat, NOT ONE, asking for HIS head.

I can say without a doubt that they were ALL wrong, all morally corrupt, and all should pay for it. Clinton didn't, Studd didn't, Frank didn't. Foley IS. There is another BIG difference.

Same to you, Democrat! sm
Merry Merry Christmas and God Bless.
I am sorry, Democrat...I just don't get it....
You guys jump to champion Teddy when she has attacked me over and over, just like you claim some conservatives have attacked you...but it is okay for her, keep up the good fight. I am sorry, but that only tends to reinforce the feelings of most conservatives that liberals walk in lock step and support each other right or wrong. Please explain to me how it is okay for Teddy to call me a fool, tell me she cannot talk to someone who is mentally ill, has no common sense, that I defecated upon her...to name a few. Why is that okay for her, and you come along rah rah Teddy, and then complain when conservatives post similar, but not nearly as hateful...posts? Can you please explain to me why that is okay? Because, actually, in looking at your posts, you seemed a reasonable person and not prone to attacking anyone. Is it that same old well, I wouldn't do it myself, but if she wants to do it, I will support her thing?
Thanks Democrat..
Good to have yet another point of view. I have been reading Rabbi Kushner's Book, Overcoming Life's Disappointments. He uses the Old Testament (obviously) and Moses. What I really love about this guy is his working knowledge of so many faiths other than his own and how he can find, quite easily, the similarities...anyway, one thing I found interesting was that he said (and I certainly did not know) the Torah has 613 commandments and more of these deal with the poor (spiritually, physically, financially poor) than any other issue. Then along comes Jesus and what does he say??? My gosh, I think it is the same thing!!! I wish that some of the really right religious people (Dobson, Falwell, etc. could team up with Rick Warren, Al Sharpton, TD Jakes, Pope Benedict, Rabbi Kushner et al) and look at the issues that the Bible addresses other than abortion and same-sex marriage. The most mentioned virtue, it would seem, would be humility and the willingness to serve God by serving others, especially the least among us, no questions asked. In the Old Testament taking care of those in need was an obligation, not charity.
Democrat here
I do check in to see what's going on here once in a while but to be honest all the republican propaganda and lies disgust me.  Thank God the majority of the country isn't buying into it.
I'm a democrat!!!!!!
And I am not one of the two that you say have posted here.  But I am proud to be a dem!
I'm a democrat

I havent attacked anyone on here.  I have no problem with the republicans.  It takes both parties to run this country.  I do feel that we have gotten off on the wrong track and I do feel that Bush has not done a great job.  I dont feel that way specifically because he is a republican but because I just dont feel that he was the best guy for the job.

I will vote for Obama.  If I had more choices, maybe I wouldnt vote for him.  But McCain worries me and I feel that given my opinions of him, I have no choice but to vote for Obama.

I am a democrat
I did not vote for Obama.  I have a question for those that did.  Do you read the articles from Reuters and other papers from other parts of the world?  Do you watch foreign news?  Because I do.  I have found that you cannot get the real picture just by relying on our news media and papers.  If you want to get a true overview of what is going on, you have to go outside of us.  Have you not read/heard the news on O?  He does want to make our kids join some sort of community service organization.  He stated that would be mandatory.  He did have associations with people of a sordid nature that goes contrary to US benefit.  And the minute that someone, anyone, posts something that they have read or heard about that man, people become angry and defensive.  I am sorry that you all voted for O.  Can you not see what is happening?  Hitler was elected into office during a democratic state.  I am not saying that O is Hitler, what I am saying is that someone with such extreme ideas has been elected to the highest power and there are many signs pointing to the fact that we are going to see some changes that even those that voted for him are not going to  like.  I think it will be subtle, until one day people are like, what happened to us?  Also, McCain and Palin did not win, so let them be!  I mean come on already, you guys won, let it die.  I have never seen one person have such a following and a following that is so mean spirited.
Duh! Wow, a democrat is saying that?
nm
I am and have always been a democrat, but
I don't agree with this at all. I guess I agree more with Clinton's 'don't ask, don't tell' stance. I also don't like how the whole 'gay movement' has attached itself to the Democrats. We need Democrats in power to help get us out of this economic nightmare created by the republicans, and this is distracting & costs us votes every time.
A better idea. SM
Make everyone register as many other sites do.  That way, you have to keep the sam identity.  As far as the rest, both sides are equally at fault.  Using the "They" term and the "You" term are shallow.  I doubt the board is under new management.  You allegation that posters got special treatment is another delusion.  But since you won't be responding to me, I guess I don't need to let that bother me.
You have know idea who or what *they* are. sm
I would not make such statements about something you know nothing about. You read a story, it said what you believed and you ran with it.  My gosh, how do you ever learn anything?   Do you think I judge all liberals by these people?  Freepers are large contributors to charities.  They have a race on now to get together donations for Katrina victims. They are huge supporters of the military.  I have been going to their site for years and I have never seen anyone threaten to kill anyone. But it's something you want to believe and so you will. It's too darn bad.  There are liberals who post there, too.  But, of course, you don't know that.
First of all, you have no idea what I would do
Clinton wasn't my favorite president but I have never hated him with the vitriol that you on the left have hated Bush.

As far as Lurker's thoughts about Bush they are assertions and not proven fact and I for one think they are hogwash--not to mention grossly, grossly over exaggerated.

Is that enough of an answer for you? Probably not...nothing is ever enough for you all.
I think I get where you get this idea
It's because all the baseless charges against Bush have truly been baseless. Let's talk about the void-of-actual-fact USA Today article about the so-called NSA release of private information. That has pretty much been debunked and exposed as yet another attempt to cast doubt on Bush. There are numerous other examples, and let's not forget *Rathergate*

Just because liberal journalists have a vendetta for this president and aren't smart enough to get anymore than forged documents to back up their reports does not mean the press has given the president a free pass. They just suck as journalists. That's not Bush's fault.
You have no idea.

but you have illustrated many points made about you here very well.  That isn't bashing, my dear, it's called truth.

Now that's an idea!!!
I'm all for that! She seems to be a real go-getter!!
I have no idea.

A friend of mine has been totally hot to trot on this story & has kept sending me stuff about it.  I haven't for obvious reasons.

I was reluctant to even post that on this board.  It's become so obnoxious here that I may as well be on one of the left-wing sites.

I've found a much more fun place to chat. Lots of conservatives and Libertarians, and much more interesting than this jazz over here.

I have no idea.........
Guess I was raised by *gasp* liberals............frankly, no-bah-dee's bidness, but it is disheartening to see gay couples who love each other who cannot make end-of-life decisions for each other or any of the other "benefits" that heterosexual couples take for granted.
Hey I have an idea for
Since he is going to make all these changes and what not, instead of starting new government programs, why doesn't he just take all the money he is getting for his campaigns and help out people who are losing their homes, jobs, etc? Kind of a "put your money where your mouth is" approach? Then he would really be "different" from other politicians and I bet anyone he helped or saw him helping others would vote for him and he wouldn't have to waste time campaigning and making ads...

Just a thought :-D
not a bad idea.
x
I'm not against the idea
of helping people who are helping themselves... regarding helping people with their loans because in turn it will help out the economy... this just seems to be the best suggestion I've heard so far but then again, I've not heard many. I will say this... I personally know someone who has multiple mortgages out on their home, in order to buy new vehicles, etc. not one cent put back into their home. Now I agree that people like that should not be helped, on the other hand, I also find it disgusting that anyone would lend them that money to begin with.
