Because of some funds that are in my name but are not my funds, I missed the EIC because my income was $250 over the limit, losing about $3000.
Some people on this board have said the EIC is welfare, but I don't see it that way. I see it as a way of helping out people who are raising children on a low income and barely eeking by at best most of the time. I don't begrudge hard working though poorly compensated individuals help when they need it, but I do begrudge welfare in the form of food stamps, etc., for able-bodied people who had rather sit on their backsides and mooch off the government (that would be you and I and every other taxpayer) than to get a job or get job training so that they could support themselves.
