many of us didn't like his policies but I did and the people I am around defended him against outsiders and negative comments. I can't speak for the whole USA and nope, I am not being sarcastic. Your guard is up way too high if that is what you think. Forget about what you see on TV, I am just saying the people in your life who didn't like his policies or the fact we went to war stilll didn't appreciate what Chavez had to say or the disrespectful act of throwing shoes at him like that. Because he was still our president and if they do it to him, they will do it to the next president as well.
