I would like to start a thread with fellow liberals about their thoughts on the subject. It has come out in the press that the Right to Life group has chosen their candidate for the 2008 election. And I am more than a little annoyed. How can a person, mostly in the name of their god, stand up in such strong conviction to protect the unborn, but yet not stand up with equal conviction to protect all living things? The less fortunate, the sick, the helpless? But yet sit back on their heels and allow innocents to die by the thousands as casualties of war. How is that right even in a most twisted sense? If you have the benevolence to stand up for the supposed rights of the unborn, wouldn't that benevolence be extended to every living thing? and at any cost? Seems rather selective to me.
It should come as no surprise that I am Pro-Choice. I am Pro-Choice because I do not believe that any person, entity, or government should have the power to tell a woman that she has to give life if she has made the decision that it is not in the best interest of the child nor herself to do so. Period. I would also like to ask what people feel about having the choice of how we die. If we have the freedom to make choices on how we live, why can we not make choices about how we die?
This is a very powerful subject which tends to escalate out of control, so please be measured in your responses please.

That is was an opinion piece? Also, check out the author. Peter Wehner, former deputy assistant to George Bush. The main trust of the article is Iraq and foreign policy. It comes as no suprise that BBC would publish BOTH sides to the election story and especially when it comes to posting opinions that would appeal to a certain segment of their own population. England. Part of the original coalition. They lost soldiers in Iraq just like we did. Also, they have a rather impressive history of imperialial colonialism and I have no doubt that conservative viewpoints such as this have appeal to some of the stodgier among them.

We can all see how well that has worked for us. One does not have to look too far to see just how inept the party has been over the past 8 years in all things economic. Huge surplus transformed to deepest deficit of all times, virtually overnight, gas/food, bank foreclosures, housing crisis, rising unemployment, wage stagnation, inflation/recession. Bush’s latest brilliant explanation for all this is that “Wall Street got drunk. It has a hangover. Don’t know how long it will take them to sober up.” This would be the extent of his experience? Scarey. Maybe he has been reading McCain's joke book. The candidate tells us that the economy “is not his strong suit.” Disarmingly honest, but none to comforting. Speaks for itself.
Touched on this in the economics paragraph in the context post, but you chose to ignore that...or, in your own words, maybe that was the one you were not paying attention to, I forget. In fact, no response from you, Sam, speaks volumes and sheds a whole lot more light on the subject than anything you might actually come out and try to say. Go figure.

then they can have the same privilege straight couples have of paying thousands to divorce lawyers to get rid of what they were so sure was gonna last a lifetime. Straight or gay, that marriage license changes people. I seriously doubt that "gay" marriages are going to last any better than straight marriages. Yeah and they want to adopt kids. What are the 2 biggest problem areas in straight marriages? You got it. Money and kids. So let 'em have at it. Make the divorce lawyers richer. As It happens I don't believe in marriage between 2 people of the same sex and I believe homosexuality is a choice but then I'll leave the sorting out to God. Same as being an alcoholic is a choice. One can choose to fight the temptation or they can embrace it. JMO.

I condem sexual abuse and from AR says he/she does too, but please don't generalize the whole of conservatives because of what one guy did in Washington or Oregon.
