Well, I believe that we are all predisposed to certain sinful natures. I think my lack of an interesting life and watching my parents lie to each other all the time caused me to begin to do so. It is still something I get tempted to do in awkward social situations. Through the strength of Christ, the hold it has over me grows weaker everyday.
I did lose a lot of friends and trust over it. I hated it, but I couldn't help it, hence the compulsiveness. But when you realize your actions and you realize that what you are doing is separating you from God, you will work day and night to rid yourself of that sin.
Hope this helps you understand. I believe it is not someone's fault that they are predisposed to certain sins, because it is natural, as we are evil by nature, but it is our problem, which means we need to learn through Christ and the Bible how to control it and ourselves.
