Sheehan Feeling the Glare of the Spotlight

Some Are Focusing Anger on Protester

By Michael A. Fletcher
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 17, 2005; Page A03

CRAWFORD, Tex., Aug. 16 -- Cindy Sheehan rode into town 10 days ago, a forlorn mother with a question for her president: Why did my son die in Iraq?

But now the same wave of publicity and political anger that she rode to become a nationally known symbol of the antiwar movement threatens to crash down on Sheehan herself.

Conservative commentators and Web sites are taking aim at Sheehan with the same ferocity she has aimed at President Bush. In part, they are using her own words against her -- reciting such controversial comments as her vow to refuse to pay taxes to a government waging an "illegal" war and her desire to see Bush impeached.

The backlash is becoming a new object lesson in how saturation media coverage and the instinct for personal attack are shaping political debate. Some independent commentators said the pushback on the right has succeeded at scuffing the public sympathy and deference she had earned as the mother of a fallen soldier, and has shown how virtually any subject relating to the Iraq war and Bush's presidency is viewed through a partisan lens.

"Cindy Sheehan has emboldened the progressives who oppose the war and caused the conservative diehards who are behind the war to go into a defensive mode," said Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, a trade publication for talk radio. "Cindy Sheehan is going to be a target, and they'll probably go through her past to find what they can to discredit her."

Since her son, Casey, 24, was killed in Iraq last year, Sheehan, of Vacaville, Calif., has traveled the country trying to drum up opposition to the war in Iraq. She has participated in peace conferences, demonstrations and a mock congressional hearing about the "Downing Street memo" -- notes of a meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his top advisers that said the Bush administration had decided to go to war and molded intelligence findings to support that decision.

In that time, Sheehan, 48, a soft-spoken woman who says she was radicalized by her son's death, has engaged in her fair share of inflammatory rhetoric.

"It's obvious Cindy Sheehan has become a political player, whose primary concern is embarrassing the president," Fox Television personality Bill O'Reilly wrote Tuesday in an online column. "She is no longer just a protester."

Bush, Sheehan said, lied to the American people about the war and should be impeached. She is refusing to pay taxes in hopes that the Internal Revenue Service will come after her to collect. "I'm not supporting a government that wages an illegal, immoral war," she said. "I want them to come after me, so I can put the war on trial."

Still, she said some of the statements attributed to her are distortions. Contrary to a letter attributed to her that is circulating widely on the Internet, she asserts that she has never said that the United States is waging the war in Iraq to protect Israel.

"I have said a lot of strong things, and I'll stand by everything I said," Sheehan said, adding that she thought the document had been altered. "But I didn't say that."

The scrutiny that has accompanied Sheehan's quick rise to prominence has extended to her family. Several in-laws have publicly criticized her protest -- announcing their displeasure in a release to the Drudge Report. News that Sheehan's husband, Patrick, has filed for divorce has been trumpeted by some bloggers as evidence of her extreme views.

Sheehan acknowledges that some of her views are becoming a distraction. Also, she said, some groups that have aided her protest have agendas -- including conspiracy theories about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and some vaguely anti-Semitic theories about the cause of the war -- that she says she does not share.

Consequently, she has asked that her campsite near Bush's ranch be restricted only to organizations of military families, or those who have lost loved ones in the war.

"

"Attention got focused on the messenger and not the message," Sheehan said. "My thing is ending the war in Iraq. But there are a lot of people who want to attach their horse to my wagon, because of the exposure I'm getting."

The increased scrutiny of Sheehan is coming as some residents here are growing irritated with the stream of antiwar protesters drawn to her vigil.

On Tuesday, a spokeswoman for Sheehan announced plans to move the camp from the drainage ditches next to the winding road about two miles from Bush's 1,600-acre spread to a field on a ranch offered by one of Bush's neighbors. The new camp would be about a mile from the president's ranch. All that would be left behind at the original site would be three tents and hundreds of white wooden crosses bearing the names of troops killed in Iraq.

The move followed complaints by about 60 of Bush's neighbors, who petitioned McLennan County officials to expand a no-parking zone around the camp, in an effort to avert the traffic tie-ups that have become commonplace as the protest has grown. Also, Monday night a truck dragging chains and a pipe demolished some crosses; the driver, Larry Northern, 46, of Waco, Tex., was charged with criminal mischief.

Sheehan has promised to remain encamped throughout Bush's five-week stay here and to return whenever the president does. She also announced plans for a series of nearly 1,000 candlelight vigils Wednesday night across the country. Liberal advocacy groups MoveOn.org Political Action and Democracy for America are organizing the protests.

"All of this other BS just clouds my message," Sheehan said. "My message is that of a brokenhearted mom sitting down in front of George Bush's ranch, wanting to know why my son died."

Prosecutor Puts Bush in Spotlight

White House Memo

With One Filing, Prosecutor Puts Bush in Spotlight

WASHINGTON, April 10 — From the early days of the C.I.A. leak investigation in 2003, the Bush White House has insisted there was no effort to discredit Joseph C. Wilson IV, the man who emerged as the most damaging critic of the administration's case that Saddam Hussein was seeking to build nuclear weapons.

But now White House officials, and specifically President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, have been pitched back into the center of the nearly three-year controversy, this time because of a prosecutor's court filing in the case that asserts there was a strong desire by many, including multiple people in the White House, to undermine Mr. Wilson.

The new assertions by the special prosecutor, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, have put administration officials on the spot in a way they have not been for months, as attention in the leak case seems to be shifting away from the White House to the pretrial procedural skirmishing in the perjury and obstruction charges against Mr. Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby Jr.

Mr. Fitzgerald's filing talks not of an effort to level with Americans but of a plan to discredit, punish or seek revenge against Mr. Wilson. It concludes, It is hard to conceive of what evidence there could be that would disprove the existence of White House efforts to 'punish Wilson.'

With more filings expected from Mr. Fitzgerald, the prosecutor's work has the potential to keep the focus on Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney at a time when the president is struggling with his lowest approval ratings since he took office.

Even on Monday, Mr. Bush found himself in an uncomfortable spot during an appearance at a Johns Hopkins University campus in Washington, when a student asked him to address Mr. Fitzgerald's assertion that the White House was seeking to retaliate against Mr. Wilson.

Mr. Bush stumbled as he began his response before settling on an answer that sidestepped the question. He said he had ordered the formal declassification of the 2002 National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq in July 2003 because it was important for people to get a better sense for why I was saying what I was saying in my speeches about Iraq's efforts to reconstitute its weapons program.

Mr. Bush said nothing about the earlier, informal authorization that Mr. Fitzgerald's court filing revealed. The prosecutor described testimony from Mr. Libby, who said Mr. Bush had told Mr. Cheney that it was permissible to reveal some information from the intelligence estimate, which described Mr. Hussein's efforts to acquire uranium.

But on Monday, Mr. Bush was not talking about that. You're just going to have to let Mr. Fitzgerald complete his case, and I hope you understand that, Mr. Bush said. It's a serious legal matter that we've got to be careful in making public statements about it.

Every prosecutor strives not just to prove a case, but also to tell a compelling story. It is now clear that Mr. Fitzgerald's account of what was happening in the White House in the summer of 2003 is very different from the Bush administration's narrative, which suggested that Mr. Wilson was seen as a minor figure whose criticisms could be answered by disclosing the underlying intelligence upon which Mr. Bush relied.

It turned out that much of the information about Mr. Hussein's search for uranium was questionable at best, and that it became the subject of dispute almost as soon as it was included in the 2002 National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq.

The answer to the question of whose recounting of events is correct — Mr. Bush's or Mr. Fitzgerald's — may not be known for months or years, if ever. But it seems there will be more clues, including some about the conversations between Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney.

Mr. Fitzgerald said he was preparing to turn over to Mr. Libby 1,400 pages of handwritten notes — some presumably in Mr. Libby's own hand — that could shed light on two very different efforts at getting out the White House story.

One effort — the July 18 declassification of the major conclusions of the intelligence estimate — was taking place in public, while another, Mr. Fitzgerald argues, was happening in secret, with only Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney and Mr. Libby involved.

Last week's court filing has already led the White House to acknowledge, over the weekend, that Mr. Bush ordered the selective disclosure of parts of the intelligence estimate sometime in late June or early July. But administration officials insist that Mr. Bush played a somewhat passive role and did so without selecting Mr. Libby, or anyone else, to tell the story piecemeal to a small number of reporters.

But in one of those odd twists in the unpredictable world of news leaks, neither of the reporters Mr. Libby met, Bob Woodward of The Washington Post or Judith Miller, then of The New York Times, reported a word of it under their own bylines. In fact, other reporters working on the story were talking to senior officials who were warning that the uranium information in the intelligence estimate was dubious at best.

Mr. Fitzgerald did not identify who took part in the White House effort to argue otherwise, but the evidence he has cited so far shows that Mr. Cheney's office was the epicenter of concern about Mr. Wilson, the former ambassador sent to Niger by the C.I.A. to determine what deal, if any, Mr. Hussein had struck there.

Throughout the spring and early summer of 2003, Mr. Fitzgerald concluded, the former ambassador had become an irritant to the administration, raising doubts about the truthfulness of assertions — made publicly by Mr. Bush in his State of the Union address in January of that year — that Iraq might have sought uranium in Africa to further its nuclear ambitions.

Mr. Wilson's criticisms culminated in a July 6, 2003, Op-Ed article in The Times in which he voiced the same doubts for the first time on the record. He cited as his evidence his 2002 trip to Niger, instigated, he said, because of questions raised by Mr. Cheney's office.

Mr. Wilson's article, Mr. Fitzgerald said in the filing, was viewed in the Office of the Vice President as a direct attack on the credibility of the vice president (and the president) on a matter of signal importance: the rationale for the war in Iraq.

Mr. Fitzgerald suggested that the White House effort was a plan to undermine Mr. Wilson.

Disclosing the belief that Mr. Wilson's wife sent him on the Niger trip was one way for defendant to contradict the assertion that the vice president had done so, while at the same time undercutting Mr. Wilson's credibility if Mr. Wilson were perceived to have received the assignment on account of nepotism, Mr. Fitzgerald's filing said.

Dubai company set to run U.S. ports has ties to administration

BY MICHAEL MCAULIFF
New York Daily News

WASHINGTON - The Dubai firm that won Bush administration backing to run six U.S. ports has at least two ties to the White House.

One is Treasury Secretary John Snow, whose department heads the federal panel that signed off on the $6.8 billion sale of an English company to government-owned Dubai Ports World - giving it control of Manhattan's cruise ship terminal and Newark's container port.

Snow was chairman of the CSX rail firm that sold its own international port operations to DP World for $1.15 billion in 2004, the year after Snow left for President Bush's cabinet.

The other connection is David Sanborn, who runs DP World's European and Latin American operations and who was tapped by Bush last month to head the U.S. Maritime Administration.

The ties raised more concerns about the decision to give port control to a company owned by a nation linked to the Sept. 11 hijackers.

The more you look at this deal, the more the deal is called into question, said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who said the deal was rubber-stamped in advance - even before DP World formally agreed to buy London's P&O port company.

Besides operations in New York and Jersey, Dubai would also run port facilities in Philadelphia, New Orleans, Baltimore and Miami.

The political fallout over the deal only grows.

It's particularly troubling that the United States would turn over its port security not only to a foreign company, but a state-owned one, said western New York's Rep. Tom Reynolds, chairman of the National Republican Campaign Committee. Reynolds is responsible for helping Republicans keep their majority in the House.

Snow's Treasury Department runs the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S., which includes 11 other agencies.

It always raises flags when administration officials have ties to a firm, Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y., said, but insisted that stopping the deal was more important.

The New York Daily News has learned that lawmakers also want to know if a detailed 45-day investigation should have been conducted instead of one that lasted no more than 25 days.

According to a 1993 congressional measure, the longer review is mandated when the company is owned by a foreign government and the purchase could result in control of a person engaged in interstate commerce in the U.S. that could affect the national security of the U.S.

Congressional sources said the president has until March 2 to trigger that closer look.

The most important thing is for someone to explain how this is consistent with our national security, Fossella said.

Murray says Kauffman discussed meeting her to take nude photos and to have sex. Over the course of seven conversations during the past two months, transcripts show each chat was sexually graphic. Murray say Kauffman recognized the girl’s age, and even showed some hesitation, teasing the girl about whether she could be a cop.

In deposition, detectives said Atchison suggested the mother tell her daughter that "you found her a sweet boyfriend who will bring her presents." The undercover detective expressed concern about physical injury to the 5-year-old girl as a result of the sexual activity. Detectives said Atchison responded, " I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice." The undercover detective asked how Atchison can be certain of no injury. He responded, "Just gotta go slow and very easy. I've done it plenty," according to detectives.

The limit is $2,300 for the primary and $2,300 for the general election. Certain companies that are big and powerful had employees who gave donations, but he did not take any lobbyist money. I think that very big people who are anonymous yank the whole government's chains though. Look at the congress...ugh!
                                                                                                                                                                        who are you guys?
Everything you just blabbered on and on about is exactly government control. Listening in on private conversation....government control.

Paying taxes for Gitmo and the moochers of this country....government control. Paying for Gitmo criminals to come over here courtesy of Obama and we pay to house them here in this country as well and pay for Obama to allow them to be tortured in this country.....government control.

You mean paying for the private companies that are corrupt and made one deceitful decision after another while Barney Frank sang their praies just a few weeks before they screwed their employees over?......government control.

Paying taxes to keep up ANYTHING except our military.....government control.

Tax breaks to companies overseas? Can't blame one party for that....both parties have caused that. Those overseas companies actually started here. They went overseas because of government control once again. No government control of their companies, i.e., tax.....they stay here and hire our people to work. Just like McCain said, cut their taxes big time and they will come back here and hire our people. WHat did Obama say? I will tax the heck out of them, those big old bad companies. You think they're gonna stay here at all now? GOVERNMENT CONTROL.....

Overturn Roe v Wade? Absolutely! Federal government had no business making that decision in the first place. That should be state decisions. New York was the first state to say yes,you can kill babies here, and guess what? Many went there and found a way to do it. Those states that do not want abortion should not have it forced down their throats either.......government control.

Let us not even begin talking about segregation, which by the way, had its beginnings at the democratic level. If you're so concerned about segregation, maybe you need to look to the democratic party, which was the biggest killer of civil rights laws for the blacks in this country, including the well-loved president Kennedy, who shot down every civil rights law that came his way and the KKK leader (democrat) who despised Martin Luther King and condemned his messages...I believe he called him an inciter of hate. BTW, MLK was a Republican for all those who live in ignorance believing the democrats are their friend. He certainly knew who was standing up for civil rights for blacks and it WASN't the democrats. MLK fought the democrats who stood at the doors of the school house. Democrats fought to keep blacks in slavery and they also passed the Jim Crow laws and Black Codes. It was actually a republican president who pushed to get the civil rights laws passed to allow desegregation in the first place. I'm not sure how you equal abortion of babies to segregation, but it's not the same thing.

If you mean Independent Party when you say you guys, then that is what we're for......less government. Did you hear me say anything that would applaud bigger goverment?

If government wasn't involved you wouldn't have to worry about deregulation and monopolies of companies. If those in Congress on BOTH sides didn't have their hands in these companies, you wouldn't be seeing any of these problems. Government should have let them crumble. We're in this "mess" because government stuck their big noses in, took my money once again, and gave everyone a blank check.......government control.

Problem is, until democrats stop pointing fingers at the republicans, when the problem lies with BOTH parties, then government will continue to control your life.

                                                                                                                                                                        you guys

crack me up.  Instead of accusing someone else of being disrespectful, why not look in the mirror.  That seems to be your raison d'etre.

You mean like the way you guys have...(sm)

given Obama such a break before he even got into office, and now all through the ceremony?  No.

I would not delay prosecuting Bush for war crimes just as I would not delay prosecuting a murder that lived next door.  I would have been happy if they would have carted him off to prison at 12:01 today.

You guys are really something.  The man committed a crime, has been blatent about committing that crime, and all you do is defend him....unbelievable.

                                                                                                                                                                        Maybe the guys at YU.....
threatened to pound them if they messed with us girls? lol - anything is possible.
                                                                                                                                                                        You guys really need to....(sm)
come out of the Fox hole and take a look around.
I don't see where you guys are getting
this stuff.  Fox News has a link on their website talking about the violence in Iran and last night and this morning they had one of their correspondence over in Iran on the phone reporting what is going on.  Fox isn't NOT reporting about Iran.
What planet do you guys come from?
You actually think people by this stuff as genuine. Again, do you actually think through what you state, or do you state it for the shock effect. I assume it's the latter.
Not at all, but YOU guys seem to be the one who hates
                                                                                                                                                                        x
                                                                                                                                                                        you guys are so funny
You conservatives crack me up..You are on the liberal board, reading liberal information and you just cant help yourself, you attack liberal posts on the liberal board..That is too funny.  And that rabid dog *Rep* keeps posting on my posts, even though I told the person I will no longer read posts from *Rep*.  You guys just cant stop it, can ya?  I know times are scary for republicans right now and it is just eating away at you all.  It is laughable.
Guys, I'm going to be honest...sm
I don't see what the major deal is about the wire tapping. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but as a child I've always been told that the government tapped phone lines warrantlessly (seeing as how they could probably get a warrant anyway).

So tell me in laymen's terms, what is the big problem with this for the average law abiding citizen?
Wow, you guys are sure defensive!
I am just used to boards where the current events are being discussed.  Yes, I was trying to stir the pot!   Just not like you think.  Wrong approach?  LOL...maybe.  So what is your opinion about the stem cell bill coming up?

I do not resent those guys...
any more than I resent the ones who ran to Canada or otherwise dodged the draft. What I resent is an all volunteer army not being supported by their countrymen who they are fighting and dying for. When protestors belittle veterans, spit on them, call them stupid, and on and on and on...yes, I resent that. I resent it deeply. The reason the draft was such a bad thing during Viet Nam and not such a bad thing in 1940 is the difference in the patriotism and mindset of an 18-year-old in 1940 and the same in an 18-year-old in 1960. The 18-year-olds who dodged the draft in 1960 had no conception of patriotism, no conception of the true origins of this country...the ideal that there are some things worth dying for is itself dying. And with it true patriotism, national unity, and on and on. Believe me, I can identify with not wanting to go where I might be killed. However, I know in whom I believe and I know my destiny is sealed. Young people did not have that in the 60's like they did in the 40's. In the 40's God was still a very important part of the daily national lives of most Americans. In the 60's that was no longer the case. I know you will not agree with me and that is fine...however, I can see the moral decline and I can see the character strength erode along with it, right through history. There has been so much liberal rewriting of history that to this point young people really have no clue of the origins of this country. And not only young people....black people as well. I would be willing to bet that at least 85% of blacks think that Democrats fought slavery and that Democrats are who gained them their civil rights, and that is exactly the opposite. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and the Republican congress passed the first civil rights laws after the Civil War just to make sure the Democrats did not turn right around and take away the rights the Civil War bought them...which they tried to do. THAT is true history. And it was Democrats who fought the civil rights movement in the 60s...look at the votes for that little piece of history. Yet I would be willing to bet that the majority of black people have no clue it was actually the Republicans who first emancipated them and then gave them civil rights. I could go on and on...but I won't. Have a good day, Lurker.

How does this stack up to the other guys?
Obama and Biden both have released 10 years of their income tax returns.
According to your information, Obama gave 3.8% of his income over 10 years to charity. I do not think this reflects the whole picture because it appears that he files separately from Michele. Not shown on your chart was the average of 5.7% in contributions of their combined incomes in 2007 and for 2006, 6.1%.

McCain has disclosed little about his family finances. He files separately from his wife, and he has put out only his 2006 and 2007 returns. There seem to be wild discrepancies in the reports of how much McCain gives to charity, but it appears that he donates generously. When your wife's net worth is $100 million, you can afford to be REALLY generous…something on the order of 25%, as near as I can tell. The campaign released Cindy's two-page tax return for 2006, but not complete returns. Reports on that also vary wildly, ranging between less than a 1% to 7% contribution to charity on $6 million income.

The Palins…well that's another story. There are a number of reports out that Sarah Palin has a "tax mess," with some allegations of tax evasion. She has only released returns for 2007 and 2006, with charitable contributions averaging 2.9%. Joe Biden seems to be an uncontested miser, with contributions to charity of around 0.3%.

The national average for charitable contributions is 3%, so it looks like the Obamas are well above that average, so I am really not quite sure what you were trying to say.

PS: Obama is planning to raise taxes on himself.

They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss,  but leave Muslim Males alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

The Anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, he will destroy everything.
                                                                                                                                                                        And Now:
For the award winning Act of Stupidity Of all times the People of America want to elect, to the most Powerful position on the face of the Planet -- The Presidency of the United states of America ... A Male of Muslim descent who is the most extremely liberal Senator in Congress (in other words an extremist) and in his 40s.

I'm sorry but I refuse to take a chance on the 'unknown' candidate Obama...
Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds and other stupid attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel ashamed of themselves -- if they have any such sense.
As the writer of the award winning story 'Forrest Gump' so aptly put it,

                                                                                                                                                                        Wise guys....
our founding fathers. The suggestion of separation of church and state is in the Constitution for a reason. This is not about accommodating the nonbelievers or any of your other extreme statements of protest.

Preserving religious traditions (especially Christmas) has a time and place...inside churches, in the privacy of our homes, in our faces at the malls, in restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations, smeared all over the landscape in parking lots, neighborhoods, etc.

My question to you is why is it some folks cannot tolerate religion-free zones? Injecting religous beliefs, symbols, etc can be an extremely divisive act, as we can see by your own post. Would you also mount such strong defenses, for example, on behalf of Moslem, Jewish and Buddhist invocations at the inauguration?

Many of us are sick and tired, just like you, but not for the same reason. I'm tired of having this stuff crammed down my throat and seeing it creep into the body of our laws.

Do you always get so hostile whenever somebody brings up one of the earliest and most Constitutionally protected traditions of our nation?
You know, I'd really like to get a hold of the guys...sm

who sat and crunched the numbers and decided that it would be cheaper for their business to take American jobs and outsource them.  Cheaper for who?  If they would think this process out, and do the old school math instead of this fancy new math, they may have come up with a different answer.

                                                                                                                                                                        Take for instance transcription:

Factor in hundreds to thousands of Americans losing their jobs to India, the newest craze in Transcriptionist outsourcing.

Factor in the loss of revenue from how much each of those transcriptionists can no longer spend and help keep the economy balanced, ESPECIALLY in such a recession now.

Factor in how little the government is going to issue out to these people who cannot find work so they can at least feed their family while they try to find something comparable to what they were doing.  Factor in the few government grants that people can qualify for because they are now low income.  Compare that to the millions they lost and are no longer contributing to the economy.

Factor in the cut backs because people have lost their jobs and can no longer afford health care, and now the hospitals can no longer afford the MTSOs and have to bring what work they do have back in-house.

Factor in now the MTSO that outsourced the work in the first place no longer has work available to outsource, thereby breeching contract, therefore having to pay huge fines, losing contracts left and right, and whoop, there goes another business under.

Oh who am I kidding, what do they care?  They will just pay themselves a big bonus as they watch the company Titanic sink, and then AHDI and the lawyers will jump in and bail them out using the money that was skimmed from the employees who worked so hard for many years, just like the taxpayers!!??!! Man this country is messed up!

Don't you guys get tired of the same old - sm

argument, day-in, day-out, week-in, week-out, month-in, month-out?  Democrats are spenders.  Republicans are greedy hogs.  The country is in decline.  Abortion will cause god to strike us all dead.  We'll overpopulate the world and all starve to death.  Whatever.   When it all boils down, ya know what?  It just doesn't frickin matter.  Whatever's going to happen in this country is going to happen, and we have very little control.  We never did, we don't now, and we likely never will.   I think we need to abolish the party-system altogether, or else nothing useful will ever get done in government.  So, knowing that will never happen, rather than keep on fighting about it, we should just leave government to bicker with itself, and come up with our own ways of making our own lives better.  In the end, that's all that matters anyway.   No sense getting an ulcer or having a coronary about who is president or who isn't, because bottom line?  It just doesn't matter.

                                                                                                                                                                        In a way I actually don't blame these guys...(sm)
If Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are representative of the average republican wife, wouldn't you want a change of pace every now and then?
Wow - you guys are such TOOLZ.

The only way to stop these guys

is to arm the ships, train each person on the ship how to use a gun, etc. and then blow these SOBs out of the water before they can board the ships.  They aren't going to stop unless they sustain a huge loss in their numbers and know that no country is going to put up with this BS.

                                                                                                                                                                        You guys are so thickheaded!!!!
                                                                                                                                                                        Let me explain this again...

OBAMA SAID I AM A CHRISTIAN

                                                                                                                                                                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL3I80MmzAk&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.barackobama.com%2Ffactcheck%2F2007%2F11%2F12%2Fobama_has_never_been_a_muslim_1.php&feature=player_embedded

Because of the choices he has made, such as supporting abortion across the board, COVERING THE NAME JESUS at a meeting, etc etc, he is not ACTING LIKE A CHRISTIAN.

Therefore, I am convinced he is not a Christian.

There is no prejudice in that. He is a liar, plain and simple. A hypocrite, if you will. I still hope and pray that he does well for our country, but I do not appreciate someone calling themselves a Christian and then doing the exact opposite!

True Christians do not wear a cloak of Christianity, they cannot remove it at the door to support their worldly purpose. Miss Cali proved that plain and simple, she could have given the "appropriate" answer and been fine, but she stood by her faith! If only our president would be brave enough to do the same thing!

I bet you would love it if an atheist president got up there and started pandering to the Christians by bringing prayer back in schools, etc., but kept claiming to be an atheist!

Nah. You guys are the best by far! You've got it

down to a science (well, if you believed in science, you would).

Sometimes the good guys DO win!
