the salesman you dealt with was stupid obviously. You don't tell potential buyers what he told you. Yes, they do make money by charging a little more than they have in the vehicles and they do try to get you financed through them because they do make money. This is understandable considering dealerships have to make money somehow. Most employees in a dealership are strictly commission besides the general manager, service manager, and office manager. I don't mind someone making a little money off of me because I know they have to put food on the table, but when they are just complete jerks like that or are trying to rob me blind.....I'd walk and go elsewhere.
Now, as for the vehicle itself......it really depends on what each dealership has in that vehicle. You said they were 2008s. Were they 2008 used or 2008 new? If they were used, you have to consider mileage on the car, etc. Also, if they would have gotten it at a car auction, one dealership might have paid more for the same car than the other dealership did.
If they were both new 2008 cars, there really is no reason why they shouldn't have sold that vehicle to you. My husband runs a dealership and he would have matched the deal to get the sale and to get an 2008 off his lot to make room for the newer new cars. If they aren't willing to match the other dealership with you having cash in hand, they are stupid. I would have walked and gone to the other dealership.
