Exactly

The detainees at Gitmo are only suspected of being terrorists.  They have never been charged, and barely have been allowed to speak with lawyers.  This is anathema to everything the United States stands for.

If they are really that bad, get the evidence, put them on trial and convict them, and send them away to a federal SuperMax prison.

By keeping them locked up with no respect for human or civil rights whatsoever, we make ourselves as a country look like a bunch of hypocrites.  We jump on every other country in the world for doing this kind of stuff, but somehow for us it's okay.

We can't have a double standard.
