In response to your post, I want to clarify some things...
I have and never will state on this board that 'it was because of slavery' that black Americans are still struggling in any way, shape, etc. I can and have only replied what I felt when I read that post, and yes - i was offended as a human being and a black American; and if you had read the post in its intended context, being a human being, perhaps you would see it for what it really is. I was raised in a family where it was instilled in all of us to contribute to society, to be responsible for self and others, obtain an education and give to those less fortunate. My father was born in the South in 1922 and witnessed as a boy lynchings and beatings, relatives and neighbors alike burned out of their homes and their land stolen from them; he was also a member of the U.S. Army, having joined the armed forces when they were segregated. My mother, who is California Indian and black, was raised in the Bay Area of the 'golden state' and there were neighborhoods that she and other black people were not allowed to work let alone live. For Mr. Buchanan to state that 'America was the best place for black slaves to be broght to and live' is self-serving, bigoted and pompous. I am aware of white people having been enslaved and of the many soldiers who fought in this country against slavery and yes, I am grateful because they sacrificed their lives. I am just tired of the negativity and unfortunately the media constantly demonizes the black community yet what is more unfortunate is that there are many people who believe just about everything the media throws our way. My people are not America's 'big problem' - how about a war that consumes our sons, daughters, fathers, husbands and has and continues to drain our nation's financial reserves, unemployment and the continual outsourcing of not only our professions as MT's but the majority of all professions here in this nation, seniors who are forced to choose between paying for their meds or eating? What about those issues? Jeremiah Wright, AL Sharpton, et at are not my problem because I am NOT responsible for them and what they say or do. All I am saying is that everyone should read the Buchanan post in its entirety and look at it for what it is - bigoted, inflammatory, insulting and yes, racist.
Buchanan
I undertstand you were talking about him (lol),...confession - some of my people don't get it EITHER...take care and God bless you...
Remember Pat Buchanan?
I just watched him on Hardball. He acknowledged majority of Americans are against the Iraqi war.
They were discussing Cindy Sheehan. The only words he used to describe her were "authentic" and "has authenticity." I was fully expecting him to slam her, but he didn't.
Wake up, already. The majority of Americans are against this war. Want to use our troops for a real, legitimate purpose and not some invented theoretical justification to get even with the guy who tried to kill your daddy once? Put our soldierse on our borders with Mexico and Canada. Let them prevent terrorists (posing as Mexicans because they have the same physical characteristics) from crossing our borders and KILLING US. That would go a long way toward BEGINNING to fight terrorism HERE, where we REALLY need it, not in some foreign sovereign nation who posed no real threat to us. Let them do their REAL job, which is to protect and defend America during a time when we've never needed them MORE to do just that.
I'm no fan of Pat Buchanan by a longshot.
He's YOUR guy, not mine!! I thought he would be attack her and say she deserved it, like the people who claim to "support the troops" so much have been saying on the Conservative board.
No. This one is YOUR elephant. And he escaped from the Republican zoo.
Buchanan to Obama
This is one of the most insulting, disturbing, bigoted posts I have seen...this among other reasons is why we as human beings are constantly divided. Truthfully, this vitriol saddens me, and as a black woman it is appalling. I am thankful that I live in America but not for the reasons Mr. Buchanan states. First of all, my people did NOT ask to come here to be bought and sold as chattel, to be beaten and murdered, to be robbed of their culture and taken so far from their homeland that there was no remote possibilty of ever returning. I could go on but I will not because when you have people spewing racist bigoted poison (no matter WHICH race does it); we all lose our humanity. It is as bad as telling women they are made for nothing but having baby after baby and should not aspire to anything else this world has to offer, This saddens me, it truly does. As my grandmother used to say: "I may not look like you, may not be liked by you, yet by the grace of God I have a right to be here - and it is not YOUR place to tell me what my place is"
Obama/Buchanan
First of all, I DO NOT HATE ANYONE....
What I do not appreciate are the slanderous, stereotypical comments continually thrown in my face about black people; and I have and will speak my mind when my people or anyone else spews deragotory garbage about anyone's race/ethnicity. I have never liked that sort of behavior and never will. If you read all of my previous post, I stated that NO MATTER WHAT RACE it is - to make bigoted racist remarks is totally unecessary. And when I quoted my grandmother it was not to inflame anyone; it was to make people think. My grandmother did not care if you were puce with persimmon polkadots - she related a story to me of why she made that statement. She was at her time, one of very few black women to go to college, and after having entered the medical field was told that 'you are nothing but an overeducated n***** and nothing more'. She was a strong lady and am forever grateful for her. Yes, I am a black woman but I am a human being FIRST. The media in this country is so negative and divisive - we should ALL hang our heads in shame for the hate they continually perpetuate and evern be more chagrined to suck up what they spew as being gospel because they said it.
Hello...I was talking about Buchanan. sm
Been demonstrating on behalf of and actively promoting civil right issues since MLK days. The job's not done...not by a long shot. It hurts me to see you this upset. As long as bigots rage, I'll be raging right back and in their face, every single time..until I draw my last ragged breath. I think it a shame this important post has gotten buried under all this sanctimonious slop above. Will try to bring it back up to the top tomorrow after my job is done. Take care, Zoesnana.
