I was pulling into work when my radio station was interrupted. 'Is America is under attack? The Twin Towers in New York have been hit.' My heart was already heavy as I walked into the Admissions lobby just in time to see the first tower collapse. We at the hospital went over the emergency response plan. Even in Alabama, we were prepared just in case military bases started being attacked. We were told that Atlanta, where my mother lived, was a likely target. We were told to go to the grocery store if we did not have at least three days worth of supplies at home. All kinds of speculations were flying about.
There was not a dry eye in our department as we watched images of people via internet and TV lunge from the buildings to their death.
I too supported going after those who brought America to her knees that day!!! I wanted them to meet the fate of those 2996 unexpected people who were going about their usual course of duty that day, unexpecting that it would be their last. The Twin Tower workers and first responders.
It is sad that politics has taken the place of getting justice for them, but there is solace in knowing that the perpetrators will be judged, now or later.
WE WILL NOT FORGET!!

Remembering One Who Gave Himself Selflessly - A True Hero! Dennis Scauso
Dennis was a 46-year-old resident of Dix Hills N.Y. He was married to Janlyn (an elementary school teacher) and had four children. He was what you would call a ''born rescuer.'' As a kid, he saved stray animals. He repaired cars. He built a treehouse. He loved watching the Three Stooges everyday.
September 11, 2001 was his day off, but some of the other firefighters in his unit were having medical tests done so Dennis Scauso was called back in. Scauso worked out of a station in Long Island -- far away from the Towers. But they rolled on the initial call because they were a hazardous materials response team. It was a 25-minute response downtown and the first Tower had collapsed.
Despite that, the crew of Haz Mat 1 rushed into the north tower to evacuate people and try to at least fight the fire. Scauso never came out. Neither did many of the other firefighters from Haz Mat 1.
He died in Tower 2 leaving a widow and four kids. On November 26, 2001, 76 days after the attacks, a memorial was held for Dennis Scauso in Melville, Long Island. Mayor Giuliani was in attendance.
''Nobody can take your Daddy from you,'' Giuliani told Scauso's children. ''It can't be done. Your Dad is going to remain with you forever and ever.''
Dennis Scauso was still missing. No remains. Nothing to bury. No closure.
