yikes... that was negative

and not terribly helpful to her situation. If you're that jaded about newbies asking the same questions over and over again, perhaps you should be ignoring the questions.

Lisa,

It does sound like that it can be done and I wouldn't be put off of the idea entirely because other people have and are in your position and are making it work.

Yikes
Well I am glad I found this site. Except no I'm really scare. When I started going to (correspondence) school last year, they said there is a HUGE demand for MT's. Is this not the case now?
Yikes!
They used to be $60 for 3 months.
Negative?
I guess that was pretty negative, but I guess compared to what I and my MT friends have been telling people who as, it is right on par. We have been telling people that good transcription jobs are disappearing because so many companies are sending them overseas. We also tell them that when the school tells you that you can make 25-30 thousand a year, that they aren't lying, I've known 1 person who has made that much, working about 10 hours a day. But, it isn't the norm. And, we tell them that it is going to be really hard after you get out of school, so you need to expect it. There are so many schools out there painting such rosy pictures and I know we all want to be nice and positive when people have already paid the money or just because we are 'SUPPOSED' to be nice and positive. But, it's also important to realize how hard you have to work to get to where you want to be and to know there is the possibility that you won't, even with hard work. Especially if you have a family depending on the hoped-for income.
I don't think they were being negative...
I think they're trying to be realistic. Unfortunately, it is a very common misconception (and we've all heard it before) that anyone can sit down and do this. People say it all the time...oh maybe I should do that so I can stay home...things like that. It's not easy, and people can't just decide they're going to do it one day and suddenly make loads of money. Also, when you're starting out, you're more than likely not going to be good enough or fast enough to just get your own accounts.

All of it can be done, we're proof of that, but I think some people come on this board and think they can walk right into MTing, and it just doesn't work that way.
What you don't see are the negative posts that were removed (sm)
The moderator deleted the negative posts because they were related to grammar errors and were getting out of hand.
Don't let negative posts discourage you.
I read the posts replying to yours and I just felt like they were very negative. Do not let them get you down. There is always such negativity on this board. It is true that the first year will be harder and you will not make tons of money. But I feel like with any new job, it is going to take a while to get good at it. If you are going to be the breadwinner, then you might have a problem but if you are married and your husband makes pretty good, you'll be fine. After a while, you will get faster and faster and make more and more money. I think most importantly, you being happy at what you are doing is what matters. I am still a newbie and make a little bit more with each day that passes by. So don't worry about it. It seems a lot of these seasoned MTs are jaded and just want to bring you down. Do what you enjoy.
