I'm no HIPAA expert (obviously) but from what I know about it and what I have tried to read about it, you make perfect sense. We cannot disclose the information and are under obligation to protect it. The demographic info is at the top of the page anyway so its there, on the report, in the header. If the clinic chooses to submit the body of the report for research, they can figure out how to obliterate the personal information.
I just remember a small thread on one of the boards here that discussed it and someone making a point of leaving personal identifying info out of the body, so it got me to thinking.
It's my boss's job to ensure compliance with rules and client guidelines so I will just go to him with my question.
