Many can afford to select say the 1% (99% grade) of test takers. Well how many are going to do that, huh. & number of  pages a bit lengthy, so that would be a little over 1 1/2 minutes a page, don't know how many on a page.  It is not easy for newbies for sure, it id dang hard to seasoned MTs to make their expectations which keep raising (for instance the number of lines per day) while $ is going down, way down for the expertise expected. They think 4 lines per minute, 2 lines per 30 seconds is reasonable to think a human should produce hour after hour, for 8 hours. I feels sad for those who buy into this baloney. On taking test, a hint would be to listen a few times (rewind, rewind to beginning) without trascribing report. Transcribe, leave the blanks and then rewind, most of the time I can get rid of all or most of blanks while getting an "ear" for that dictator sound. If you get the worst set of dictator, who are obviously going too fast or mumble too much, hey, you need to decide, do I want to struggle THAT much trying to meet their expectation. Actually, I would never ever recommended this profession, EVER. Been at this for 25 plus year and not so good for the MTs either money or dictaror and the empolyer sure does not do a thing about improving the dictation, one MT was saing how one dictaor routinely sat n the stands at a live football game and dictates the reports all the while whispering (so he can't be heard (disturb) coudl go on and on.

I failed my first test...took another class and (sm)
got some medical terminology cassette tapes to listen to in my car - I listened to them everywhere I drove...no music for a few months, just terminology, listening and repeating.  I went back to the same place and asked them to let me test again.  They did and I passed.  They had everyone work at their service for at least 3 months before working at home.  The first month I made about $2.00 an hour - no kidding. I was just determined...it was very helpful to have other MTs working there with me to help (some chose to work in house and not at home).  By the second month I was up to $13.00 an hour.  Within a month I was working at home on my own.  It is very hard at first but it gets easier - don't give up!
