There is no benefits package that I am aware of. Was not one when I started with the company. I am lucky in that I have the ability to contribute with my husband's retirment fund and ROTH IRA as well as his company provides excellent insurance benefits both medical and life.
There is no PTO; however, scheduling is very flexible. I think you have to work a minimum of 32 hours a week. Not sure of that number. I usually work five to six days a week depending on activities.
Have you thought about Transcription Matchmaker? I personally do not know anything about them, but a friend of mine, an MT, had success in being matched up with a company. Not sure if you have to have experience, but always worth to read their website!

and focus on a nice clean report with excellent grammar, punctuation, etc. No one expects you to follow a complicated template and layout for a test but they do expect you to follow whatever directions they give you (and I would recommend to a T). Re: "If I land a job than doing it this way would be time consuming" - you wouldn't be working that way on the job so don't worry about that. But note that you did utilize the incorrect "than" - should be "then" - and things like that are what the MTSO's notice.

want to be a psych mt
psych MT s are not necesarily so easy as i have been doing then for years and they have their idiosyncreases too. i am getting sick of acute cate and clinic and rreally would like to concentrate on psych again.ive looked into some companies like transcription at its best, etc., and they have special psych accounts but they are hard to reach.
i was wondering if any psych MTs had any suggestions as to who to connect with soon. there's aubri dictation but they are hard to reach as well. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

I used to work an account that did disability evaluations, mostly psych, some ortho and general medicine as well. It was great - a lot of phych testing, which I love. I guess a lot of the good psych stuff falls under this category. If I could get an account with the state or something doing disability transcription, I'd be in heaven. Love this type of work. Nice long reports and never gets boring. If anybody has any luck, let me know! I haven't found anything comparable in all my searching.
I love doing psych notes
they do tend to be boring, but are usually in pretty plain English and are pretty long, so you get lots of lines. Easy money.
Try hospital accounts with psych units
The only psych reports I've ever were through hospital accounts that had psychiatric units. Whether the psych report come through the ER, a consult or the unit, I find psych notes are always interesting. Good luck. I hope you find a great psychiatric account.
It depends on your account
Sometimes MTs, new and otherwise, get accounts like that. On the plus side, it is experience that you can use. Learning some of these difficult ESLs now can be benificial to you when you move on to another job. As far as line count goes, that would be tough. Just do the best you can, at least it is a paying job.

There weren't a lot of shortcuts possible, but it was mostly typing regular English.
Not really, but I was offered one account that needs a Cphone....
Would that make it worthwhile? Are they widely used?

It all depends on the account. Are you wanting to
do it on your own - meaning get your own account, or work for a company. If working for a company there are various ways to get work, a C-phone or Lanier, tape, or through the internet - what you need depends on what they use. If you want your own accounts it all depends on how they do their dictation. It may be done on tapes or handhelds, in which case they probably have the ability to upload files.

You didn't mention the name of the company. It could be they have a new account and it's not off the ground yet. It was a month after I was hired before I actually started working. That was two years ago and I'm seldom out of work. I'm still on that same account.

You're right that account specifics will dictate how you
do this, but generally you don't abbreviate diagnoses, but using cm and mL are okay, just don't use CHF instead of congestive heart failure. In the body of a report it is acceptable to abbreviate, but you should really transcribe as dictated. If the doctor dictates CHF then type CHF, if they dictate congestive heart failure than type congestive heart failure.
i work for one national, one smaller, and have one private account.
i am always busy, but never without some type of work :). I make a great line count with MQ. I was statutory but effective January 1st, I am an employee. Not sure how that will work out. My secondary account is with a smaller company I have been with for over ten years, and I have a small private account that pays very well but low volume.
Disagree. We have a gravy account that we, as IC's, provide our own equipment and pay for
a token to get into the software. Big deal. You pay $150 for a C-phone and $150 for the token but then you make scads of money! So would weigh the ROI (return on investment). Not a hard and fast rule to never buy equipment you can't use on another account.

contracted to a medical transcription service that requires multispecialty experience because of the hospital work. Unfortunately, very rarely can a medical Transcriptionist these days be given only one specialty when working for a service or hospital. We have to be well versed in multi specialties. The Turn Around Time on demands have increased, and thus the service or hospital gives the MT many different types of work. Learn as many specialties and gain as much experience in different specialties, which in turn will make you a more valuable MT and more apt to gain employment.
The very first day I transcribed, I transcribed psych
ESLs. I had no MT training, no mentoring, and I did 600+ lines. Prior to that I hadn't typed in years and probably could type 35 wpm on a good day.
I'd suggest browsing through a psych reference book. Put as many abbreviations as you can in your expander. I have certain docs that always dictate the same tests and H&P tend to have a lot of the same info in them. If you don't already get a spellchecker and that should help some with not having to look so much stuff up.
