will not lecture you. The MT's on the word board are fabulous.
I really can't think of what the medication you are sounding out is. Sorry.
Good luck!

I've seen talk on there of several companies that hire new grads.
I actually got hired at MQ right out of school - but it was a much different company then. I worked there for 3-1/2 years and bailed when the first signs of sinking occured.
I honestly only have experience with them and the company I'm currently at - and I don't think my current one hires new grads. Check out the company board though and I'm sure you'll find a company that will make you much happier than MQ could.
Check the company board. These same
questions have been asked multiple times the past couple of weeks. I didn't see anything good about them.
You can check the classified board here. I buy
mine direct from Stedman's. You can check Amazon too.
Check the company board for info on them.

If you spent any time at all reading this board you'll
see what a struggle it is for newbies to get jobs at home. If you go to one of the better schools your chances are better, but still no guarantee. I think anyone looking to get into this field now is crazy. Lots of work being offshored and lots of working going to ASR, which leaves fewer jobs for available. j
Spend some time reading through posts on this board
and you'll find your info about the preferred schools and the ones to avoid. I don't know of any MT company that is setup to work with MAC.

Ask on the word board.
This isn't the word board and it isn't a very
active board. Ask your question on the word board if you can't find your answer by googling.
Please use the Word board for this in the future.
Thanks.
Just ask your question on the Word Help board and if someone can, they'll help you. nm

Don't worry anon, this is the same person on the Word Board asking test questions!!
couldn't agree more - grammar is critical yet not taught in the MT schools sm
I find it makes or breaks any MT I take on. I wish they would focus more on it. Most people can't figure out plural possessive or whether to use affect or effect.
If you'll check the company board you'll find
they have been talked about several times recently. They are an Indian company and no one has had anything good to say about them.

This is what I have talked about time and time
and time again and somehow the MTs get completely out of joint by just my saying it. I could not believe this "newbie" said she could not leave her home, she had to work from home. I did not get to start working from my home until 1993, hello!! This has not always been a stay at home job and then we did NOT ASK to go home, we were sent home because the hospital needed our space. We never demanded a job at home. Apparently you sound like really don’t want a job at all. If I were employing someone, I would certain run very fast away from you. The first little nosebleed from a child, you would stay off from work for 2 or 3 weeks. This again, folks, is why our profession looks really bad. These posts and yet people are highly inflamed when I call it to their attention. Same story, again and again on these posts. I cant work, junior is bothering me, gotta do the housework. Wake up, everyone! Do not ever expect to gain any respect for the job you do when you have someone like this tearing it down as just a reason to stay at home, oh yeh and I guess I might throw in a little work on the side. Enough said!!!!
If you currently type in word, then do a word count
then I really can be of no help. Usually when trying to get an idea of a line count with spaces and without spaces, you can use this method. Some people have actual line counting software. I, however, do not, so I am not much help in that regard. Hope this helps at least a little.
Microsoft Word/Microsoft Word 2003 are the same
MS Word 2007 is an upgrade. Are you sure that you don't have it installed on your PC? I don't know if that helps...good luck, and please don't pull your hair out, it comes out with age (lol)

I went to school back in 1971 to be an MT and if I would have had my internship that they offered back then to work during the summer months (as it a was 2 year college), I would NEVER have finished my second year of school to be one. Been doing this about 35 years and my pay has been torn in half compared to 1987 salaries. Even working part time, don't think you would ever get a paycheck that would be worth anything.
And if you are doing this to stay home with kids, how do you expect to work as an MT with the headset on trying to figure out ESL doctors and watch the kids too? This profession is definitely not worth it anymore, and if you are still young enough to go back to school, RUN, RUN, RUN and sign up for something else.
I do believe its time....

Thanks for the push.
I was sitting in the auto shop today, contemplating how I can afford to put the money down when I have all of these expenses this week: $100 tune up and oil change today, plus $600 for new tires for hubby, guestimate (my own) of $400-800 for 150,000 MI maintenance and fixing of a leaky tranny on my 93 volvo tomorrow, when I realized I CANNOT afford to wait.
My kids' school is not going to waive my tuition because I haven't gotten off of my butt to go to school and get a job. My car is not going to miraculously run forever on routine oil changes and tire rotations. Life is going to get more expensive and I am going to have to work at some point. Why not do it in a field I love (medicine) in a job that will give me the flexibility I need to work 5am-630, then 830-230, or something like that? Its either that or work 8-5 as an admin med assistant/receptionist for $8.50/hr and deal with all of the fun stuff that goes along with that. OR, even worse, work at Starbucks or Walmart because they are the only places that I can work "mommy" hours (ugh hate the term).
Plus, it seems there are a lot of MTs who have 4 year degrees so I don't think I will feel like my education was wasted because there are plenty of other MTs out there who have the same level or more and love their work as an MT. But I digress.
This time next year, I can be starting a job as an MT for a national company, but only if I start.
Time to go finish the paperwork and clean the house.
So much to do, so little time
I think I must have posted on the wrong board earlier...I got 55 views, but no responses to the following message..if anyone can help with info, I'd really appreciate it. I'm sure I had too many questions, but any answers will do just fine. Thx

Hello,
I am really hoping to get some detailed information about anyone's RECENT experience with TASK as a transcriptionist. Are you working steadily? How long does it take to get on board with them -- I returned the contract to them recently with no results yet. Just a little concerned. Also, I only found posts here on them from 2003 and 2004 which didn't sound great...how are they handling the growth spurt now? Have the checks been submitted in a more timely manner? Sorry about all of the questions, but I really want to start working on a full-time basis and want to know who/what companies to contact that will get me started and paid as soon as possible. Thanks for any help everyone!
Q & A time
Hi all!
Does anyone know anything about Allstate Transcription and the mentoring program through AIM? They are telling me that I would have to take this mentor program and that it would be $99. I am newbie and wanted to see if this is legit or just someone trying to scam me outta $$$$$.....are you hired on there after the mentor program? Someone please.....give me an A!!!
Thanks, Sher
not all the time
Thanks, Keri, for sharing your experience. The unsettling thing is that I *do* find myself missing the occasional word--not all the time, but enough to make me feel that I need to be re-listening to the file. I am always surprised when I've missed a word because I am listening so carefully. Sometimes I feel like a dog with its head tilted, waiting for the crunch of the family car's wheels in the driveway! Any advice on how to be a better listener??

Reality check
When HIPAA went into effect that fateful October, the AMA did a survey and less than 50% of physician practices had any HIPAA compliance practices in place or had started preparing them. That is a fact. In the private office setting, the office can include anything they wish into their compliance notification their patients sign and their patients have the option to opt out of whatever sections they don't want to participate in. That is a fact.
It is personal preferences in complying with HIPAA regulations, not just for the MD but for the patient. That is a fact.
Reality check.
You may think you are a great MT or can be, but experience is not something you can fake. I have no idea if you are new to MT or not, but if you are trying to break into the field and plan to lie about your experience it will show and it will show in every aspect of your job. I know for a fact my company checks references and many companies do. Posting such a question is just galling. What kind of work ethic is that?
Check the archives
I recommend you go to the MQ board - they have their own, you know - and read the archives. You have to punch an "e time clock" and work exactly your schedule. Seems they frequently run out of work, and have to make up that time from their personal time. However, they may be more likely to hire a newbie than another national. Happy reading!
I agree - definitely check out M-TEC! nm

check what is required before u
take the exam. For myself, I did not take any exam at all and had been doing med transcription for more than 3 years now. I did, however, took a course as my background was engineering. If you are just new in this career, most companies will require a formal training. The fact that a lot of MTs are competing for jobs, you would be better off with a formal training (just like any other career). I hope this helps.
