UNFORTUNATELY...that's the case with of AHP! Please SM
I have seen NOTHING regarding AHP that makes me believe it is anything but a "complete waste of time and money with no hope of success."

I have no affiliation with MTEC or Andrews at all. I don't believe these others do, either. It is WELL KNOWN to employers which schools turn out graduates who are ready to go to work and produce quality results.

I know of quite a few people who have taken the AHP course and could not find a job. I have read posts from AHP grads who landed a job and either could not keep it because the quality wasn't there or discovered that their education had not NEARLY prepared them for the real MT world.

I have heard MTSOs say they WILL NOT hire AHP graduates. I have seen AHP graduates post how unhappy, angry, and disillusioned they are, and how they have to start all over again.

I have NEVER seen an MTEC or Andrews graduate complain that they cannot find a job or that they are unhappy with their education.

Yes, I believe they both (Andrews and MTEC) offer payment options and will help people figure out how to pay for a QUALITY education that will enable you to get a job.

Sorry to be so emphatic, but it's just unfortunate to see how many people get swindled by this particular "school."
In my case...
I got that promotion because of the CMT. There were 2 of us under consideration, and it went to me because of those 3 initials. The other woman has been an MT for longer than me (by approximately 5 years) and has worked for our hospital for much longer.

Honestly, the only reason I even took the test in the first place is because I wanted that 6% raise.

BTW, I've also worked for a service that didn't give it any credence at all.

That was not the case 6 years ago, though - sm
things might have changed. MQ will allow graduates from certain programs apply though they have no experience, granted you have to pass the test in order to get a job. If you fail it they say to reapply in 6 months.
Somebody woke up with a case of the Mondays!
NM!
It's the case with most companies period.
It was the same when XP first came out. It'll take a while before they work out all the compatibility issues. Unfortunately, Vista comes with a bigger problem..it requires a top of the line computer just to run smoothly, yet retailers are sticking it on any old computer. You'll find most retailers offer an option to ship with an XP disc but only offer it to businesses (because very few businesses are willing to purchase computers with Vista on them).
I wasn't saying that you were
but I have also been told by a lot of people that you can get scammed...so I wanted to ask on here to see if anyone else had done something like this. They have never talked to us in class about interning for another 3 or 4 months after graduating.

I don't know I'm just getting really discouraged. It seems like after being in school for a year and half for medical transcription I should be able to start working when I graduate, not have to intern without pay. I mean this is a legitimate school that I go too, a real campus where I actually go and sit in class for four hours on Monday and Wednesday, and then take another class online. Does that not count for anything?

Jade I wasn't saying you were a scam, I just wanted to get some feedback from other members. I didn't mean to offend!
Well it wasn't
just one post in particular, I see it a lot.

Another thing, just because it doesn't come naturally, I still think it can be mastered, you just have to make a conscious effort. If I was to sit here and pound out an email to one of my friends mindlessly, it would probably not be the best example of correct grammar, but if I turn on my brain and pay attention to what I write, I can make sure there are no grammatical errors. So don't be discouraged if normally your emails need a decoder for someone to read, but just be mindful when you are on a professional board where future employers may see what you write. I know we can pretty much be anonymous on here, but I am sure there are ways to find out who it is!

Tulip thank you for your kind words!
It wasn't one - it was twenty. nm

Or learn to ask the Administrator or Moderators if you don't know what a board is for.

Wasn't 5.1 the last DOS-based WP program? Not sure...nm

I wasn't criticizing M-Tec. It is a very good
MT school. My point was, M-Tec notwithstanding, AAMT pronouncements should be viewed from the perspective of their championing of off-shoring. Simply having an endorsement from AAMT should not be the sole criterion for choosing a training program since AAMT does not have the interests of American MTs at heart. This should especially be borne in mind if (or possibly when?) poor training programs start getting AAMT "approval". M-Tec would be a fine choice for anyone considering an MT career. I was simply cautioning the OP not to base any choice of a school on AAMT endorsement. That's all. No need to get your knickers in a twist. Sheesh.
If the OP wasn't pulling our collective leg,
then heaven help us all.

You know, some of the companies that offshore their work use the excuse that they can't find enough qualified MTs in the US. If the above is any indication of what's coming out of some of the schools, their excuse is actually starting to make some sense to me.

As I said... heaven help us all.
I wasn't aware that I was misleading anybody with my post.

Did you have a bad experience or are you just going by what other people have said?

OP wasn't asking about caps in diabetes mellitus

rather asked about if the word *type* after diabetes mellitus (type 1 or 2) is initial capped.  *S*

x - but do not think that you are just going to walk back into this like it's a walk in the park. It's not. Things have changed and it's not what it used to be and it is not where the money used to be.
The answer is....
myocardial ischemia
no one here would know the answer to that
Are you talking about looking at the character count in MS-Word or by some line counter you got or the company got? MS-Word gives you a character count with spaces and a count without spaces.
No, of course you don't have an answer for that - sm
because there isn't one.

Check on Google.Com they have many links to the company you are looking for.

Didn't like my answer?
Didn't like my tone? That's just too damn bad. Get over it. I told you the truth. If you don't want to heed the truth, that's your problem, not mine.
Answer to your concerns

Why don't you call Linda and discuss your concerns with her?  I'm sure she can put them into perspective better than I can, but I'll share that you won't need to use that website in your studies.  Nor do you need to participate in any social activity whatsoever.   In fact, should you wish to be completely invisible to all the other students, you won't have any problem doing so.

My cyber-office masquerades as a pub, but I won't be teaching you, so you don't have to go there.  Even if I was teaching you, you wouldn't have to go there!  Many of my students interact with me only by email.

Yes, our board is private.  That is because our students voted to have a private board and because the school administration feels that a private board is best for everyone.   That way, you can speak and participate freely, or not, without worrying about it coming back to haunt you some day.

What's most important is that you choose the school that makes you feel the most "at home."   You need to be comfortable and happy, and you need to feel that the school meets your needs as far as is possible.   We want you to select the school that you feel is "your" school, and if it's not us, that's ok.

Wrong answer!!
This means they are interested enough that they would recommend me to apply at their sister company. They WANT to interview me. Got the call today.
A newbie answer

I have been doing this job part time for 6 months now and absolutely love it. I am looking forward to the day when I can do this full time.  To answer your questions:

1.  There is no reason nor excuse to attach a resume when your prospective employer says to paste it.  When I applied I made sure I read everything and did everything that was asked.... because I wanted the job.

2.  There is no reason nor excuse to apply for a job where you do not have or are not willing to buy the equipment needed to do the job.  I made sure my software and foot pedal were compatible.  If a high speed internet connection is required, and you don't have one, then you can't do the job.

3.  When I applied for positions, I checked, checked and recheched my spelling and grammar to show that I did have a grasp of the English language... because I wanted the job.

4.  I did get the job, and now I rely heavily on the QA corrections that I receive.  I pull my reports to see the errors before I start my shift so I won't do the same mistakes again.  I want to learn the words and phrases of difficult docs, get the account specifics down, and improve my accuracy... because I want to KEEP my job.

This is just good business common sense.  I think feathers were ruffled because of the tone of the post, not the content, although I can certainly understand her frustration.  A MTSO owes a newbie nothing.  A newbie must prove themselves able to do the job, and a good first impression is a big step in doing that.

Just my take on it.

A practical answer for you.
The best place to train is:
1. Any school where nearly all students graduate,
2. Where nearly all of those graduating pass employment tests with nationals and are hired,
3. Doing well in them right away, getting up to speed quickly,
4. And where the school will continue working with you at no extra charge until you have the skills you need.

That's what you need to ask those schools. Only one or two will be able to answer these questions in a satisfactory manner.

The whole point behind getting training is, after all, GETTING A JOB.

Correct answer - only cap if.....sm

only cap medical Transcriptionist if it is a company name....I am an MTSO with my first name and surname coming before, i.e.,  [My Name Here] Medical Transcription Service

To answer your questions
I'm an IC and was given the IC Manual which does not refer at all to any reviews, raises, etc.  I do cardiology and can produce about 175 lines an hour, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the doctor.  Since I'm an at-home IC, I have no one else to compare my work to, that's kind of why I started looking around to see what I could find out.  Since my one year anniversary is right around the corner, I figured that would be the time to approach the subject but I wanted to have an idea of what I should be looking for!
Since no one has given you a direct answer I will - sm
500 lines as a newbie will probably take you at least 5 hours, maybe more, maybe less depending how easy/hard the dictators are, how fast you type, how much you have to look up, etc. The norm is 150 lines an hour, but as a newbie it is unlikely you will reach that. After six years I still only do 140-170 lines an hour with my expander, though I am not a super fast typist (60 WPM). So there are a lot of factors to figure in, but as a newbie 500 a day is not too bad to do and very doable. Good luck.
answer - split

Instead of the traditional straight keyboard, they have a keyboard that is split down the middle so your hands can be at a more natural angle.  Its called an ergonomic keyboard.  I LOVE mine.

If you go to this URL you will find the exact keyboard that I use.

I have been looking into this as well, can you answer some of my questions?
When you say a secure internet access, is that any different than being in a hotel that offers free high speed internet? What precautions or questions should I ask before I plug my system into something like that.

The majority of the time I will be using it is when my kids would like to play outside and I can be able to work from the deck of porch. However, we would like to take vacations where I could have access to typing if I needed to, such as a STAT file.

Thank you for any answers you give.
Answer to Intership

Has anyone heard back from "Jen" regarding the internship that her company is offering? If so, please email me with your thoughts and opinions of the offer.

Thanks!

Well, why ask if you didn't want the answer.
You asked why anyone would get into the industry now. Why ask the question if you didn't want to hear the answer. We weren't necessarily defending our jobs, but explaining why we do it. We make more than working at Wal-Mart and are much happier at home doing MT. If you were just trying to make a point, then just spit it out instead of asking questions you really don't want the answers too.

I agree about the post above, but many of us come to this field with our eyes wide open. I knew what to expect. I knew I would have to work hard to get where I needed to be financially and I have far exceeded my expectations. For some of us, MT does pay and pays well, better than any of the other jobs available in my small town.
Two people may be composing an answer
at the same time, and they have no idea somebody else hit the "post reply" button before they did.
You got an answer to the question you asked
There is no need to become retroactively indignant. You wanted to claim experience for your schoolwork. You were informed that that would be inappropriate. Now you know.
MTSO - Are you going to answer quick on this

Thanks for taking time to answer.

Too many variables involved to answer
that question.  You shouldn't compare anyway.
Having instructers answer questions quickly is a BIG plus.

Since when is asking for an answer on a test considered using a resource?
It's cheating, plain and simple. Are you the same Jenn who is having trouble with the Princeton test? If so, no wonder you disagree with what "resources" are.
You still skirted the issue. Please answer the questions so you may have more newbies. Otherwise,
??
Ooops! Nevermind So. I found the answer from the posts below. Thanks. :-)
