hyphenation

In Reply to: how do you hyphenate followup before and after a noun? thanks - cb

a hyphenated word only applies when it is used in the context of an adjective.. BOS can say what they want, but I still hold to the old rule of correct grammar, i.e. "the tumor was 6 cm in circumference".... "we resected a 6-cm tumor". "This patient is being seen for a follow-up appointment." .. "The patient came in for a follow up". Follow up should never be one word. It is either hyphenated when used as an adjective or not hyphenated at all. BOS needs to reference Websters.
