ex-pat

Ed,
I am a current CS student, and an ex-pat currently living in Germany, because of my hubby's job. We will move back to the States at the end of this year. I usually just 'lurk' around on this website, but occasionally, this same topic of ex-pats getting employed comes up. (I wrote my own question asking about this before I enrolled at CS.) I am nearing the end of my CS training (light at the end of the tunnel!) and have to decide if I go ahead and try to find a job with a company that will hire me while we still live in Germany, then let me take several weeks off when we move back to the States, or just hold off until we are back and settled before I go on the job hunt.
Anyway, when this topic has come up previously, the responses have always been of the same sort - some companies may hire you, but it will be harder than if you were in the States. One person told me that since we have maintained a U.S. bank account and kept our house (we are renting it out while we are in Germany) and we still pay U.S. taxes, that it shouldn't be a problem. Since I haven't finished my training, I can't speak to the reality of that information.
Good luck to you in the Phillipines! Being an ex-pat and living overseas is a HUGE adjustment! It will be hard, but probably a little easier since your fiance can help you out with the language and culture stuff. Enjoy your time there and travel as much as possible.
