I'm all for being cautious but I guess if you can't send your resume to one poster here, you can't send it to another. I mean, ANYBODY can post on the boards...including Job Seeker's Board.

Look at the job seeker's board..apply everywhere
Regardless of what it says for experience, request to test for them. If you are good and pass the test, you may be given an opportunity. This is what I did 4 years ago. I got the job as an IC, and then not too longer after added another, and then another. I just kept replying to job ads and requesting to test. I passed the tests and was offered the jobs. Most of the time, I wasn't even asked about my experience. The proof is in the pudding. If you can do good work, are reliable, and are flexible in when you're willing to work, you can find something. You just need to get out there and start replying to ads.
There were two jobs on the Job Seeker's board
over the weekend that were looking for typists and general transcriptionists. Try one of them as a starting point. I don't know anything about either of those companies, but I started out doing general transcription while I was still in school. I worked for emediamillworks/FDCH, an insurance company and a small MTSO in New England doing work comp reports until I got hired to work at home by our local hospital.
Just proceed with caution. Don't go buying a bunch of equipment or paying anybody for a job. I wouldn't invest in anything except MS Word and a footpedal (can be bought on Ebay). You can download Express Scribe for free to play the sound files on your computer with the footpedal.

Still plentiful jobs in MT if you want to do it in-house. Lots of jobs

should I apply anyway?
When companies say they are looking for experienced MTs only, should I apply with no experience but a grad of one of the top MT schools?
Apply and see what happens (sm)
If you've done the SUM tapes, you've done them. Either you picked up what you were supposed to pick up, or you didn't. Try getting one of the self-assessment tapes from the AAMT testing program (they're retired tests), if they still have them. If you can do it and it looks pretty much like the transcript key when you are done, you've probably learned what you needed to learn. Try to get a service to test you.
If you cannot pass a national service test, and you cannot find a job with a local employer, then you would want to take a course.
Apply, apply, apply to everything...sm
unless the ad specifically says no new grads. I applied to everyting advertising for two years or less. You will be surprised at how many companies will offer you to test with them. I did not go to one of the big three schools and was still able to get a lot of decent offers. You have to have the confidence in your skills to go after the job! While you are applying and waiting, keep practicing so you are always on top of your skills. Read the ads carefully--if they only specify two years of experience and nothing about being new then apply to them! You should get offers to test with them and then let them see your skills! Good luck to you!!!
APPLY EVERYWHERE!
The work is out there. Go to the Job Seeker's Board and apply for everything that you qualify for. I even applied for some that said 1 year exerience and on my application how much I wanted the job in a one liner. I got hired by one of them because they let me due 2 live files. Just keep your eyes open; it only took me 2 weeks to get a job because I applied to lots of places.
GOOD LUCK!
Apply to everything! sm
I applied to everything wanting two years or under, unless the ad specifically stated "no newbies". The more you apply to the more companies will give you a chance. Once they send you a test that is where you can shine and get hired. A newbie can get hired..you just have to have the skills and persistence. Good luck!!!
must have 2 yrs to apply with MQ
nm
Don't apply if you don't want it.
x
yes, you can still apply
Spheris and Career Step have a partnership where you can start out at a higher than entry level position; however, you can still apply for a full-time job regardless of where you received your training. GOOD LUCK!!!
Apply anyway.
I am a new MT and I recently applied at my local hospital. I had an interview/test this past week. Even though they stated experience required, they are willing to consider new MTs if they don't get enough qualified candidates.
Apply, apply , apply everywhere and anywhere - sm,
you can that is my advice. It took me about 2 months to land a job 6 years ago, I applied my butt off too. I also made cold calls to local companies and landed a very small PT job that way (my first job), then 2 others on-line shortly followed, all were PT so I worked all 3, gave me very valuable experience in a very short amount of time. Just keep plugging away, determination is a big part of landing that first job. Do not take any job that you have to pay for either (other than leasing a computer), lots of scams out there. Good luck.
I wish I could apply
I am looking for pretty much the same thing. I just completed my course work for my degree and now am looking for work, but with no experience other than school and my externship it almost seems hopeless. I have visited over 60 sites and either applied, submitted resume, or been kicked out because I do not have the desired amount of experience. I am trying to be patient but I really need to start working. My ideal is to work from home, because my husband works a lot of weird hours and my son is on 18-months-old, but I have even started applying in my local area. If you know of anywhere I could look, or any tips that I could try I would appreciate it.

Hi - Go and apply at RIUnlimited - they hire new people - they do pay for spaces - they will pay you 6 cents a line which is low but it is a good place to start - i started there when i got out of school - they will hire you - Good Luck to you!

Look online and apply daily! sm...
Looking for MT job postings online is probably the quickest way to find out who is hiring. Most local newspapers are also now online. Don't forget about networking with your graduate peers!
I think timing plays a huge role in getting that first MT job. Find out who is hiring and apply on a daily basis! Job hunting is a full-time job that pays off in a huge way!
Ignore the two-year clause and apply anyhow!
If you let that hold you back, you will never find work. There are plenty of new grads working and getting hired everyday. If you wimp out, you'll get nothing.
Or use their Apply Now button from their ad on page 3 of Job Seekers,
s
so give us contact info so we can apply
I would appreciate the contact info to apply. I am a new grad and having a very hard time finding a company that will even consider a new grad. and I am very discouraged.
since you already have a little experience, go apply at a hospital. They have benefits, mentoring,
etc. In a few years time, you'll be on your way to really cleaning up.
Apply for child care assistance and put the kids in daycare.
You can't juggle all that. Either that or have the father watch his own kids for a while so you can work.
Is your internship paid? Can you stay with it and get experienced and apply for an at-home job

MT Jobs
I have been trying unsuccessfully to e-mail AAMT. I am interested in knowing why someone with prior experience cannot take an abbreviated course rather than the full course like M-Tec and Andrews provide. Of course, my experience is old, but I have basically kept abreast of what is going on in the MT world. All of the schools seem to want to give complete courses. In other words, everyone is treated like a beginner.
Thanks for any suggestions.
There are jobs
Jobs are available, but some companies don't want to put their resources into training new MTs. It's a costly process. Those that do hire new people prefer to hire from schools with a proven track record in providing solid training. I was offered a job with a large national before I even graduated, but I went to a top school. Even so, the company had to invest a lot of training and time in getting me up to speed. Choosing the right school is the key to doors opening when you graduate. If you didn't invest in a top-notch education, you may have to work harder to find that first job.
MT Jobs
Try Spheris.
LOOK AT ALL JOBS.
I have been doing this for three months, and I did the same thing on my resume. You might have to start at a low pay rate, but it will get you experience.
JUST HANG IN THERE!
Where are all the jobs
because I cannot find any since my graduation in November????? Need and appraciate any POSITIVE feedback.
jobs
Don't give up. I just graduated in November, and I applied to EVERY place I could. Even if they said that they only hire experienced MTs, I submitted a cover with my resume that asked for the opportunity to test. Of course, I got several denials, but I got a few takers, too. And, the great part is that I have been working since Thanksgiving!!! Keep looking, you'll get there!!!
Jobs MT
I read your post and would like information about Sten-Tel, Inc. I just recently graduated from Career Step in Nov. 2005 and need to get to work. You can e-mail me. Thanks
I have 2 IC jobs..
I still haven't finished the course. However, I have managed to get two great IC jobs paying 9 and 10 cpl for acute care while still taking the course. I love doing acute care. I think Career Step is excellent.:o) I'm sure the other schools are excellent too, but CS is the one I chose.
jobs
Try Premier Transcription Services, Inc.

Subject: jobs
I love this board. I will use this in the future if I am stumped. I am done with school, involved in more training BUT now I need a JOB!! Does any one have a good job lead for me doing transcription? I was laid off at my waitressing job Tuesday for the winter! YIKES!
jobs
No one deserves a job more than any other person simply because they are a mother. LOL
Whether or not she is a mother, if she cannot provide services when the employer wants/needs, she doesn't deserve the job.
IT IS BUSINESS!!!
jobs
Where is this job. I would be intrested. I just finished courses online and don't know where to start looking. Thank you
Jobs
Check with your school first. They should have a list of companies/services that hire their students. Also, talk to other graduates of your program and find out where they are working.
Depending on what course you completed a lot of companies will waive their experience requirements and let you test. I know that RI Unlimited lets grads from the top 3 test, but I don't know if they are hiring newbies right now.
Jobs
I have a year of on the job training with a company who has gone downhill. Any suggestions as to a company that would hire me. I am a stay at home mom who is trying to provide for her family without having to pay the high prices for daycare. I have done radiology, mammography, and pain management.
jobs
I have done MRI/CT, and cardiology testing reports. I did not mention those because I thought that it went with doing radiology. I do thank you for your advice.
Jobs = yes
Just type in Radiology transcription or medical transcription on the internet and you will find 100's of jobs to apply for online. That's exactly what I did and it paid off. Be picky and take your time on the tests.
Jobs
Does CareerStep not have a placement program. I thought they did.
Jobs
I graduated from Career Step about 6 months ago. I have a job with Focus Infomatics. I also had an offer from MedGarde. They do hire new graduates. I hope you find a job soon!
Me too, But where are these jobs?
I worked as a nurse in psych, dementia and behavioral health before becoming MT. I would love to find this type transcription work. I haven't found this kind of MT work yet, and I've been looking too.
jobs
Seems to me if you have extensive experience you should be able to find a job.
jobs
I am a "newbie" just having finished my medical transcription course. can anyone point me in the direction of companies that will hire a rookie who wants to work from home?
MT jobs
How many of you have finished school (pls state which one) and started working soon after? Need to know!
GO WITH USA JOBS!
The companies who hire only USA workers proudly post that on their websites. Support them. Help them grow. They do not hire someone to do 4 hours a day and call it full time. They can not afford to waste valued MT time because we are all they have. The reason you do not have enough work is because the companies are doing ALOT more outsourcing since January 1. That is not going to stop. Competition is fierce. Older MTs are getting put out of their jobs due to outsourcing and EMR. Land yourself a job with a U.S. company and even if they lose your account because the client wants to outsource, they will do everything they can to keep you and provide you with other work as their companies grow.
