many require 2000-2003, no older, no newer.

MS Word 2007
If you get MS Word 2007, it gives you the option tocreate a document and save it so that it is compatible with MS Word 2000-2003.  I would get it so that you don't have to upgrade later.
Word 2007 I NEED HELP!

Here's what it looks like:

1. Cor pulmonale with salt and water total body fluid      overload, with cardiomegaly and edema.

I am trying to add a couple of spaces before the word "overload" so that the "o" will be directly beneath the "C" of "Cor pulmonale". But if I just click in front of the word and touch the space bar, it won't let me do it. Any ideas? I'm desperate to try anything. Thanks

word 2007 ?

Hi,

I have word 2007.  My fonts are on 10 and should be 12 and when I put it on 12 it keeps flipping back on 10.

New Time Romans flips back on something else also, how do I get it stop flipping?

Thanks a bunch!

I have Microsoft word 2007 and I

Hi,

I have just got an XP laptop with word 2007 and I can't hear the Doctor's voices they are not coming through, nothing wrong with the volume.  Is there anything you can do to correct this on word  2007?

Sarah

Word 2003 or 2007?
I have just purchased a new laptop and am having Vista replaced with XP. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a preference by most employers between Word 2003 and Word 2007. Thanks!
Word 2003 or 2007
It seems that a lot of platforms are not compatible with Word 2007. Even the platforms that are compatible with Word 2007 always seem to be compatible with Word 2003 as well. If you can find a standard version of Word 2003 (not the academic version) at a decent price, you've struck gold!
Please be careful with use of the word profession vs. occupation..sm
though the two terms are sometimes used interchangably, they really don't mean the same thing. Occupation is what engages or "occupies" one's time, such as a job. Profession is considered a calling, vocation or form of employment that provides a needed service to society and possesses characteristics of expertise, autonomy, long academic preparation, commitment and responsibility. While MT's are dedicated workers supporting healthcare in a paraprofessional capacity, it's not really in the same camp as law, medicine, ministry, etc. MT's don't work on their own, unsupervised, such as a doctor does, nor do they have a long academic prep, even if they do go to business college...
What steps to take to make word 2007 into 2003

or do you have to buy 2003?

Thanks,

BT

companies (plural); not company's. Apostophe used for single word.
nm
could be a flaw with 2007; have you
recently checked for Word updates on the MS site?
Be careful what you say.
Before you say something about a company I would make sure I was absolutely right or you can get in trouble for libel. Just looking out for ya.
Be careful, please.
The typical scams here involve wanting you to work without pay to gain experience, to work at low pay, to be penalized for "errors," to pay for "training" supplied by their employees, and to pay them to supply your computer, software, etc., and/or to put up a deposit or something like that before you can work.

If you encounter any of those things and start thinking how wonderful they are to "give you a chance," remember that it's going to be less expense in the long run for you to just pay for another, better, school like Andrews or M-Tec, after completing which you will get a decent job.

You need to work on your writing skills, too. That problem area is going to hold you back, both in finding a job and in keeping one!
Be Careful

I just want to let people know it is very frustrating trying to find a job in Medical Transcription, especially when you are a new MT graduate!  It seems to me no one wants to give us a chance, but I did have a chance with a company called Transmedical.  But with this company it did not work out! In the little time I was with this company she lost 2 accounts and did not tell everyone that was working for her what was going on we all had to call and find out ourselves.  So please be careful when someone does give you a chance!  So please if anyone knows of  anyone that is willing to give new MTs a chance please let me know.  I do check MTstars and MTjobs everyday.

Thanks,

Sonnett

Good Luck to all new MT Graduates, we need it!

Converting 2007 documents

www.howtogeek.com/howto/microsoft-office/make-word-2007-always-save-in-word-2003-format/
You're not going to make 2007 into 2003 (sm)

however you can SAVE documents in 97-2003 format.  97-2003 uses .doc, 2007 uses .docx.

When you save your document, go to save as ... then as a word 97-2003 document.

Go to OPTIONS (you'll have to find it after clicking on the big round button on the top left corner) and there's a way to default it to save as 97-2003 all the time.

Be careful, though, a lot of the scams use this and Monster too
If it sounds too good to be true ($70,000 a year!) or if they are directing you to a course that they sell, it's probably bogus.
Please be careful on using that term certified MT.
You are only certified if you have taken the CMT exam for the AAMT.

Otherwise, you have a certificate for completing a course.

You can face legal action for claiming to be a certified MT without an AAMT certification number to back it up.

It also misrepresents yourself.

Be careful. M-Tec may not be very forthright with you about it. It has often been posted here
about newbies being shocked at how hard it is to get a job. You may email me for any further questions. I have been in the MT business for 25 years, worked for hospitals, doctor's offices and now have an MTSO. I am always happy to help newbies. One more thing I would do right now is archive everything on this board. That will give you a taste as to what you are up against.
Be very careful of anyone promising you "experience".
The AIM program -- you do work for them for free in that program.

Please be careful about the term "certification".
Getting a certification for completing an MT course does not make you certified. Only passing the C.M.T. challenge exam by the AAMT allows you that.

Be careful to avoid scams . . .
A lot of people who contact newbies with offers to help them get training are scam operators. Some are just well-meaning, but misguided people who think they're "mentors."

They may offer you the opportunity to work for nothing, or they may offer to pay you, but subtract penalties for editing and errors, or they might just never bother sending your check at all. They figure that you're desperate enough to put up with it for six or twelve months, and you probably will be.

Please check carefully before you agree to this sort of thing.

Can you save your 2007 docs in 97-2003 format ? (sm)
That's what I do but if you need to get 2003, ebay is probably your best bet. :)
Be careful when people have to write you off the board
It may be totally innocent, but often the scammers do that. If they offer you a job and you have to buy equipment, come back on the board and let us know.

If they offer you a scholarship or an internship or offer to be your "mentor" and you'll just do the work for free, you're about to be scammed.
Just be careful not to get Office Works or Suite
that is advertised as compatible with MS Word. I accidentally bought that once, the packaging was similar and the box said it did everything MS Word did. Well, it sort of did, but that software changed every document I had in my entire computer upon installation to its own version. That certainly would not have worked in transcribing and transmitting reports. While it did work with Word as the packaging said, it did so by changing Word to something else. I don't recall the exact name of this, but just read the packaging carefully and get Microsoft and not a lookalike. Just wanted to give you a heads up to avoid one of my many mistakes. Good luck.
Please make sure to ask word questions on the Word Help board. There are
people who specifically answer questions there.
If you currently type in word, then do a word count
then I really can be of no help.  Usually when trying to get an idea of a line count with spaces and without spaces, you can use this method.  Some people have actual line counting software.  I, however, do not, so I am not much help in that regard.  Hope this helps at least a little.
Microsoft Word/Microsoft Word 2003 are the same
MS Word 2007 is an upgrade.  Are you sure that you don't have it installed on your PC?  I don't know if that helps...good luck, and please don't pull your hair out, it comes out with age (lol)
Companies probably won't
hire you if you haven't finished school. I don't know that for a fact though. Someone running their own business might though. You just have to find someone and show how knowledgable you are in the field. As to equipment, that varies depending on what the company or person needs you to have.
Companies...

Hello all!

I am sure this has been asked and I have been a lot of researching for companies on line that offer benefits - not IC positions.  I have not had much success and wondered if any of you gals/guys are working such companies, are they hiring, and more importantly would they hire a Career Step grad with a little over 1 year experience?  I work at a local PT company, but am tired of driving to town every day for the tapes and making deliveries - had a taste of online work once and would like to get back to that, but need benefits!!  Thanks!!

companies
I graduated in May and am now working for Orion Medical Transcription and love it. They are a great company and have a wonderful mentoring program. I do not know if they are presently hiring, but give them a try.

MT companies

May I suggest looking into your local community college for your medical transcription training?  Part of the course of study for my MT diploma was an internship with an actual transcription company which was a great help to get training in the real world of medical transcription and to see how a transcription company actually works.  I was able to take all the classes online, done in the time framework of actual college classes plus I've earned credits that I could use toward something else.

They have a certificate program, a diploma program (which I earned) and an associates degree program.  I know nothing about the online MT companies...but it seems to me an actual brick/mortar college adds more credibility to your credentials. I had great instructors and a location to go to when I needed to see them face to face.

I could be wrong as I haven't checked out anything else but this would be my suggestion to those looking to earn their MT training.

There are a few companies out there...
who will hire new grads. I know, for instance, that both Medquist and Spheris allow grads of the CareerStep online program to apply for an at-home position with them immediately upon completion of the course. Both CareerStep and M-Tec are very well-known and legitimate online schools that employers will recognize right away. You might also try sending your resume to USA Medical Transcription (www.usamt.net). They are a smaller company in Florida with an internship program for brand new MTs.
Those companies should be
ashamed.  Obviously what they care most about is the almighty dollar (to go in their pocket).  Some companies are turning MTs into sweatshop labor.  It is especially hard for newbies.  Once newbies get some time in, they won't be so insulted with poor line rates.  Still, companies should be ashamed of themselves for what they do to MTs paid on production.
More MT Companies

This website also has a plethera of potential hiring companies.

More MT Companies

It has nothing to do with the MT companies...

They are free to hire as they please.  They do not owe anyone an explanation.

Regarding your other comments, there are so many MTs who either never even went through an MT training program or went through a program that was not one of the "top 3," and they have found jobs and are successful.  How many times does this need to be said before you understand it?  Stop putting unnecessary fear into people.  If a person wants to succeed in this industry, it is possible via many routes.

how many companies

HOw many companies have you both applied to?  Was it just the nationals like MQ and Spheris?  Did you try all the small, independent MTSO's out there?

I am a newbie who has been working for a little over 2 months.  I applied to over 140 companies, all within one weekend, and found a job by the end of the following week.  I recieved a total of 13 responses.  I understand that 13 responses out of the 140+ resumes I sent out seems bleak, but I got 13 responses!!! And a job!!!  It may seem tedious to sit and do that, but if you found a job at the end of it all, wouldnt it be worth it?

Applying to one company every few days will get you no where.  Apply to as many as you can find, and do it all within a week.  Spacing them out will only stress you out.  Beef up your resume and research how to write a great cover.  Print out a list of companies and check them off as you go.  Apply to them all and test for as many of them that will let you.  Use the time you are not applying to retranscribe the stuff you did in school.  It will keep what you learned sharp and help with you typing speed as well.

Good Luck.

Did you try all of these companies?

Here is a list that someone posted of companies who supposedly will hire newbies:  http://forum.mtstars.com/medical_transcription/v/3/7497.html.  You might want to try sending your resume to all of them.  It may take a lot of sending, but you should get some responses.

If you do save the tests you are taking (if you have permission) and are unsure why you failed, I would be more than happy to look over anything and give you feedback.  You can E-mail me if you'd like at mtmentor@gmail.com.

Companies
Why would you want someone to list the companies from the COC on a public forum?  If you were a loyal M-TECer, you should know better!  And obviously you haven't read the copyright warnings of late.  It won't hurt you to wait a week or so until you find out the results of your test.
Companies
Oh jeez, there have been a lot. I went down the list at mtdaily.com and applied to any of the jobs that were hiring, and didn't mention experience.

Named companies:
MedQuist
Mrecord
Princeton
A few of the local hospitals to name a few.
Maybe try companies looking for IC?
They seem to be more flexible with hours, so maybe they are more flexible if you can only have satellite.

Have you ever looked into wireless internet through your cell phone? My sister does this, though I couldn't tell you any more about it. They got it from their cell phone company. It might be similar to satellite, but they don't ever seem to lose signal like satellite sometimes does in bad storms.

Good luck.

Also, I would periodically check with your phone company. My in-laws went from not being able to get DSL the last 5 years to just getting hooked up with it this past week. Granted, they are in the extended network, so had to pay a little more at first, but now they pay less than I do for the same service :)

Good luck.
do companies
say they are interested, set-up a phone interview, and then NOT call at the designated time? I have had this happen twice!
What are the top national companies
that have good reputations as employers? I'd like to contact them to see what schools they see as "top notch". TIA! -Anne :)
Now, which companies fit the above requirements? LOL
Oy, that'd be a nice place to work.
It's likely that most companies won't test you without
I'm a small MTSO and won't even consider testing someone if they haven't been trained, preferably at one of the better schools (M-TEC, Andrews, etc.)
Some companies won't even let you test unless
.
You'd have to test for companies. How would you do?
What would happen when the truth came out? There is no faking it when it comes to doing hospital work. Did you see the ads for general/religious transcription? If your English skills are top-notch, jump on those. One of the companies says they also have or will be getting some MT work, I believe.

Good luck.
Big 3 is schools, not companies
x
What companies are you appying with
What companies have you applied with?  There are companies out there that will hire with no experience.  I am proof of that.
No, it is not good, and companies know it...
and will not test people who go to that school. They used to have another name, they changed it to Allied because word got out that they are a cheap school that does not adequate prepare you for this career.

You need to check into Andrews School or M-Tec. Employers will waive the 2-year experience requirement if you graduate from those two schools, and you will be able to get a job.
There are companies that offer
"internships," but a lot of them are scams.  If any company requires you to pay $$ upfront or to buy equiptment/software from them you can be sure they are a scam.  If in doubt ask about them here.   You can post your resume on the various free job boards and you may get a response from a company who might not post ads on the boards.
