My personal experience from owning a DC for 10 years using a combination of Montessori and ABeka program was very positive. I've seen 4 yr olds who can multiply numbers with ease without a calculator.
I had a wide mix of social and economic backgrounds in enrollment but nothing was as satisfying as earning the trust of a sexually abused 5-YO who would not speak to anyone else or feeding a child even when it wasn't meal time because I knew when they went home, they would not be fed.
I also found that the teachers I interviewed who were pro-public education had the most pronounced distaste for a learning day care and found every chance to ridicule the program and had a need to put down people who used day care.
I helped a lot of people and had a large impact on a lot of little lives and I am very pro day care.
