Yes, "mastering" all of these things will come with time, but you really need to have a good grasp on all of it before you try to jump into it. I recently graduated an MT program and have begun working for a national. It is not as easy as you may think. I had basic knowledge of terminology and grammar before I went to MT school...I would absolutely hate to think of trying to do this job without the education that I have now. And even after going to MT school, it is a very difficult job right now. I'm sure you could do it, but you would have a hard time and wouldn't make very much money, especially if you were paid on production which is how most companies pay. There is a lot of stopping and looking up words, etc. That slows you down...i.e., low production...I have been doing very well, but if I hadn't gone to school for it I shudder to think...
