Oh, individual tests.
It does happen that students have little disasters, often at the beginning of a course, and often in things like med terms, but one doesn't let that build up into a "knowledge deficit." Yes, studying the material over again is a must, and a new test can be produced for something like med terms.
Usually, our students find that their grades get better as they go along, because they become used to learning what they need to know. These areas are never a problem, though.
The most important thing is the transcription itself, and everything comes together there . . . med terms, anatomy, ears, everything.
For a transcription assessment, it's best to do remedial material and another assessment.
We have a lot of remedial material--enough to satisfy even the most demanding of students.
Most of our students demand to have a go at it anyway. I think they feel left out if they can't participate in the "Moans and Groans" thread in my cyber-office.
We don't actually have a final at the end of the course. We assess so much during the course that there is really no need for it.
(Why on earth would we let anyone get all that way not knowing about their performance??? They are paying us to make sure they learn what they're supposed to know! How can you do that if you wait until the end?? I can feel a little scream starting just thinking about how awful that would be! Not only would they not learn enough, but they'd have learned all sorts of misconceptions and misunderstandings and errors along the way, and you'd have to work to get rid of the problems. The thought is horrifying.)
Our students are constantly doing assessments that are much like employment testing. At the end of your first little section, you'll do one. If your instructor discovers something for you to work on, you'll get some additional material. Until you are doing better--in the 98% range with no "underlying issues" causing problems.
Then, in the next section, same thing. You won't get to the section after that until you're up to speed at 98% or better. By the time you get to the end, after all that, you won't need a final. You'll have been working at the 98% level all along, and you'll be very clued in to how to do it, and even if we did give you a Final Test then, you'd get a 98% on it. We know that, and that's why we know we don't need to give one.
But, I'm sure, if you really wanted one, we could find one for you . . . we have lots of stuff.
The true test is with the employer. After we get through with you, we're sure you'll do well with that. If not, we'll keep working with you until you do.
We're a package deal. Everything is included, including your success. We feel responsible for that and we'll continue to work to that end as long as you are willing to work with us. Seriously. That's why I work for us and not somebody else.
