I am the one who made the original post. I'm not so "upset and disgusted" anymore. :-) I thought I might give you a little advice on finding a job.
I think I said this in my post, but the way that I went about it was sending my resume to every company I could send it to. Even if the company stated they wanted two years of experience. My resume outlines my specific skills as an MT, i.e. computer, terminology, etc...and also outlines lists the specific courses I took in my college program.
There are literally hundereds of companies out there. I don't know if you are wanting to work from home or work in a hospital, clinic, or doctor's office, but I would do the same thing either way. I sent my resume to many, many companies.
If you are looking online and the company website offers testing for employment, take the test. That is how I ultimately landed the job I have now. The company I work for states they want 2 years of experience, but I tested for them and they hired me because I passed.
It is not easy to land that first job. You just have to be determined and keep at it. Since I got hired I have had 5 more job offers. It will happen for you too. Good luck!

Just wondering if there are any companies that hire new graduates. I am a recent grad. (Dec 06) and I am having a heck of a time finding people who hire newbies.

I am a recent Andrews Grad.
I finished the course in 9 months. It is at-your-own pace to a degree. You do have a time period to turn in each assignment--but it is completely doable. I graduated, started sending out resumes the next day and landed a job the day after that. I am very pleased with my choice. Just my 2 cents.

I really think we have to take into account the times and hope to see a little economic recovery soon. I have been told that things typically pick up in January. It seems a lot of recent grads are in the same boat.

I work for a company who is presently looking at starting at MT program with an internship and then a job offer when over. I would like your responses in what could have made your program better or if you feel there was anything bad about it and what that was. If you would like to respond, please email or feel free of course to post here. At this time, I am not able to provide the company name that is starting this program, but I can tell you we are going to be working to make it the best possible, and with your help be able to offer a better program to future MT students. If she is a recent graduate she has NO experience, just school practice.
Why would she need a mentoring program if she went to a good school?

CAI School - Any Current Students/Recent Graduates?
Hi Everyone: Have any of you ever heard of the CAI School of Medical Transcription? Any current students or graduates out there? I've been checking out their website and they seem to have a terrific program. I've searched the archives and the last posting on this school was from 2006. They hire newbies, heck, they hire warm bodies that have at least 35 wpm typing skills with no med terminology or MT experience. Lots of the employees are in nursing school or _going to apply_ to nursing school. Don't expect to be able to live off what they pay but it is a good place to stay for a year or so to get some experience and move on to something better. It is in-house only. Most of it is editing voice recognition and the rest is regular transcription.

I was actually interviewed there several years ago when I had very little transcription experience. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I was not hired. It was probably for the best anyway.

The link that you posted for Andrews takes me to a site called Career Step. Are they the same? According to what I looked up they are not. Why is the link going to the wrong site????

Researching a wrong link
Being able to research is very important for an MT. It is never too early to begin. Try to find the Andrews website yourself by entering various keywords. On this site you can also do research. A lot of information about the top 3 schools can be found here. If you still have questions after gathering information, then you can approach the schools directly. Also go to the AHDI website where you will find information about schools. After doing all the above, then come back and ask specific questions so that we can give you specific answers. Being an MT is a hard job and constant learning.

read the AAMT BOS....but bottom line, that poster Suzanne was right about one thing.....it's the client's wishes that count......you can only inform the MDs of the new changes in HIPAA and BOS but you cannot make them do anything they do not want to do...

I have worked for Medquist for a few years, and I think they are a great company to work for. There have been a few bumps in the road, but they hear the MT's and are trying to correct them. The pay is good, and the platform is excellent.

Do you know what I think is really funny? When newbies (me)ask where we can find a job that hires new graduates and we are told to check the job seeker's board! Have you checked it lately?? 2-5 years experience and NEW GRADUATES need not apply! How do we get experience? with pay??

I am sorry but to me that is a load of you know what!! I worked just as hard as anyone and I am sick of hearing how I should of went to Andrews or M-tech whatever!!! I worked my butt off for along time and I would just like a chance to prove what I have learned! who cares what school I went to? Sometimes it has to do with the student don't you think?
