The pay is less, but....

....there are many benefits to being a MT.
I have health issues and I am a single mom. By working at home I avoid the commute time, costuming time, and other expenses that go along with most jobs. I am also able to be home with my child as I had always planned to do. I have no family that can help out if my child gets ill. She is old enough to take care of herself while I am working. Also, the company I work for is flexible when I need to stop and rest for a while.
As an RN on the floor, I never felt like I was 'done' with anything. With transcription, I feel I get a great sense of accomplishment when I finish a document and know that it is quality work. When it is done, it is done, and I don't have to do it again.
I am very happy to find a profession where my OCD and anal qualities are actually appreciated (for a change.)
Being an RN will help you, but you still need a quality program in order to survive in this field! It is not at all what I thought it was going to be. It is hard work!
I have learned so much about medicine since I started this job 6 months ago. I could never go back. I love it.
I believe there is more to life than just making lots of money. There is a lot to be said for job satisfaction. In my case, the money I would make working as an RN on the floor (or even in an office) is just not worth my life energy.
I am happy to say that I have found my niche.
